🛁 Chapter 4 🛁

Fish Guy pov~

I blinked open my eyes and groaned at the headache that went through my head. I rolled over and leaned my head on an oddly smooth white rock. My mind and eyes were kinda blurry, not fully taking in where I was. I just knew this wasn't the shore or the palace.

I noticed someone come in and my brain froze.

Human. A human had just walked in. I blinked a bit, and looked up at him. He was staring at me, and he had his head cocked slightly to the side. I noticed his wide hazel eyes and the freckles that were all over his cheeks. He had curly brown hair and looked pretty... ok. For a human.

"Hey. You woke up." The human smiled.

I blinked again, and took in my surroundings. I was in a weird smooth white rock that was filled with warm water and everything around me was strange and unfamiliar. I looked at the bright, searing light that was hanging above a reflective thing, and hissed, narrowing my pupils. I moved a hand through the water and noticed it was oddly smooth and clear and stale. I moved my tail a bit and snarled at the strange white thing that brushed against my skales.

"Where am I?" I growled at the human, shooting him a side glance.

"My bathroom." The human shrugged.

"What?" I hissed again.

"You're in my house."

"Why?"

"You fell unconscious on the beach so I took you here, also I'm a marine biology student and you've spiked my interest."

I glared at the human, curling my lip and revealing my pointed teeth.

"What's your name?"

"Why do you care?"

"Because I want to refer to you as something that isn't 'Fish Guy' because I doubt that's your name... do mermen have names?"

"Of course we have names! We're not lobsters." I growled.

"Well what's your name?"

"Alexander."

"Last name...?"

"Hamilton."

"Nice to meet you, Alexander Hamilton."

"Let me go."

"But... I... you're interesting."

"I'm also being held captive in a very unideal place. This water is stale, I bet you don't know what I eat or even have what I eat in your possession, and I'm going to either die or develop Stockholm syndrome."

"Yeah... I'm sorry. Can you tell me about your kind? I umm... I'm studying the ocean and I'd love to know more about you."

"How stupid do you think I am? I'm not planning on telling you anything. I'm not leading you to my friends so you can study us or whatever it is you insane humans do." I hissed, whipping my head around and turning over in the strange thing.

"I don't want to..." He shook his head and trailed, realizing I had a point.

"Now, tell me. What is this thing." I frowned, knocking my knuckles against the white thing.

"That's a bathtub."

"What's it for?"

"It's basically where people clean themselves."

I narrowed my eyes at him and dragged my nails along the sides of the 'bathtub'. The human winced at the sound it made and I smirked, pressing my nails harder into the smooth surface. (Am I the only one who hates this sound?)

"Alexander."

"Let me leave." I said, and started scratching again.

"Alexander."

"Look around, look around, this is no place to keep a merman." I dug my nails against the 'bathtub' even harder.

"Stop."

"Let. Me. Leave."

"Alexander, please, understand my situation. I'm a marine biology student who found a real live merman. If I can prove to my professors you exist, I'll have it made."

"Why should I care? I'm being held against my will, that's not ok." I snarled.

"Yeah but..."

"Let me go back to the ocean. Please." I begged, starting to freak out while I watched my chances of freedom grow slimmer and slimmer.

"Alexander... I'm sorry, I can't..." He shook his head, sighing.

"I have friends, I have responsibilities." I didn't want to tell the human about my adoptive father being the king, which technically makes me prince, which means he could use me to get to the king.

The human sighed and stood up. I saw him grab some objects, one of which smelled like food. Not food that I would eat, but food nonetheless. I watched him take a human book and walk towards where I assumed the door was. I reached out a hand to grab his wrist, but missed and fell forwards, hissing with the shock of my breath being cut short. The human turned around and looked at me, almost pityingly, and opened the door.

I watched helplessly as the human walked out and closed the door with a click. I sighed, leaning my cheek against the 'bathtub'.

I splashed my tail in the water and cupped my hands, bringing some of the water up to my face. I sniffed it and dropped it, feeling a pang of sadness as I remembered my home. I thought of Maria and the gorgeous way she smiled when I told a joke, or the way her cheeks flushed when I teased her about Peggy. That made me think of Peggy, the sassy yellow-tailed lord's daughter, and her friendly personality and charming smiles. I remembered Angelica and Eliza, Peggy's sisters, both of whom were very different to each other and their sister. Angelica was witty and short tempered, but an amazing big sister to the other Schuylers. Eliza, the middle sister, was very sweet and gentle, but if you got on her bad side, she was a force to be reckoned with.

Would I ever see them again?

There's no way for me to escape, I can't exactly waltz away. I rolled over in the 'bathtub' and stared at the ceiling, feeling tears prickle in my eyes.

I was stuck here, there was no way for me to escape.
