~Valentines Day Special~

A/N : First of all, if you're homophobic/against yuri, I recommend you to skip this chapter. Second, I am bad at romance writing so lol, please bear with crappy, clichéd writing (which is extremely cringy as well). Third, anyone who ships Shika and Akira, your ship has officially sailed XP Fourth, this is merely accompanying the story and plays no role in the plot whatsoever. It's just for fun ;)
Alright, that's all. Have fun reading (or not) XD
P.S. OWL-15 this chapter was done specially for you haha

The Kazamino Central Park was tranquil and peaceful during the cool night on February 14th. Elegant park lamps lit up the place in strategic intervals along the lakeside, and benches were scattered here and there amidst beds of sleeping flowers. Everything was blissfully quiet; only the lap of water against the shore could be heard.

At a time like this, one would have expected to see no one besides the occasional late-night groundskeeper, but there were two figures sitting on a bench facing the lake, one with forest-green hair, the other with blizzard-white. They looked out silently at the vast expanse of water, simply enjoying each other's company.

Breathing in deeply, Shika closed her eyes and sighed dreamily. With a contented smile, she stared at the moon's reflection in the water, saying, "It's always so beautiful and calming here at night. That's why I love this place."

Akira could not hide a smile. "I'm glad you brought me here tonight. It is beautiful..."

They relapsed into silence. As Shika continued to gaze out across the lake, Akira threw surreptitious sideway glances at her.

Shika looked ever so pretty under the combined lamplight and moonlight.

Leaning back slightly, Akira stretched her hands overhead with a pretend yawn, then smoothly placed an arm around Shika's shoulders. Her heart began to thump wildly the moment her arm was in place.

Shika didn't even flinch at the move. Instead, she inched closer to Akira and lay her head on her friend's shoulder like it was the most natural thing to do.

Akira was too excited to even look at Shika now. Her heart rate was rapidly shooting up. She had definitely not expected Shika to respond like that.

They remained in that position for around a minute, just appreciating each other's presence. Being Puella Magi, their lives were in the hands of fate, thus it was important that they cherished peaceful moments like these.

"Akira?" said Shika softly after a while, her gaze never leaving the lake.

"Yes, darling?" replied Akira, somehow managing to keep her voice calm.

"Did you ever think of falling in love?"

Akira was caught off guard by the question. She coughed, then said as levelly as she could. "Well, not really. I'm not the type that easily falls in love, let alone go near boys. Having to deal with Ishida is enough of a pain... Why do you ask?"

"Just curious." And she said nothing more.

But now that the topic had been brought up, Akira did not want it to stop so soon, especially when it was February the 14th. "What about you, dear? Have you thought about falling in love?"

She could feel Shika tense up. "Erm... To be honest with you... Maybe... a little bit."

Akira could feel her heart sinking as she asked the next question. "So... you have a person that you like?"

"Maybe I do, maybe I don't."

"And who is that person...?"

"...I can't tell you."

"Why ever not?"

"I can keep some secrets of my own, right?"

"But you can trust me on this. I won't spill on you."

"I'm not sure about this..."

"I promise not to breathe a word about this to anyone. So just tell me."

"Why do you sound so worked up about this?" Shika raised her head from Akira's shoulder and looked at her quizzically.

"Erk! I-I errr... just wanted to know, since you're my best friend and all. Yeah. That's all," said Akira hurriedly, trying to save the situation.

Shika gave her a small grin. "Oh really? That doesn't mean I can tell you about my crush, haha."

Akira put on a disappointed face. "Not even for your best friend since eight years ago?"

"Nope..." Shika looked away, feeling herself blush. "I can't tell you. You'd freak out."

"Oh. Alright then..." Akira turned her eyes back front, staring at the lights on the opposite bank, crestfallen.

Because Akira was sitting to her right, showing her blind side, Shika could not tell where or what her friend was looking at. Her long white bangs hid away her face.

If Shika told her who she liked, there was no doubt Akira would flip. She herself felt uncomfortable about it. Surely, it wasn't... normal, to have such a crush, right?

"Hey Shika?" Now it was Akira's turn to start a conversation.

"What is it?" she replied as lightly as she could.

"If I told you who I liked, would you tell me yours?"

Surprised by the weird request, Shika did not know how to react. Akira seemed desperate to know, so much so that she offered to reveal her own secret in exchange for hers.

"I... don't know about this, Akira," said Shika hesitantly. She couldn't tell Akira who she liked. Not when Akira came from such a well-known and traditional family.

"Please? I promise to keep it a secret." She was asking for it profusely.

Removing her arms from Shika's shoulders, Akira turned her body slightly so that she was looking directly at Shika. Her blind side was bothersome when it came to side-by-side interaction. She should have sat on the left side instead. "I'll tell you mine, and you tell me yours. Deal?"

Shika gulped. Without knowing why, she inched back a bit to widen the gap between their faces. They were extremely close. "I really don't know about this, Akira..." She could feel her face getting hot, and she couldn't quite meet Akira's eye.

Akira leaned in closer, negating Shika's efforts to move away. "Maybe if I told you now, you'd change your mind." Under the yellow lamplight, Shika could see that Akira was blushing too.

Could it be......? A wild thought crossed Shika's mind. No! No, it can't be. You're thinking too much! She berated herself mentally for ever having that thought.

"I'll tell you who I like," said Akira slowly, and her voice was so serious that Shika had to look at her. The eye contact caused Akira to falter, and she coughed nervously. Deliberately, she brought her right hand up to Shika's face, her fingers lightly brushing the girl's cheek. Shika could not breathe then, feeling as if she might bloom and wither in a split second.

"The person I like..." Akira said in a low voice, forcing herself to maintain the eye contact with Shika, "...is sitting here with me now, listening to everything I'm saying..."

Shika licked her drying lips, not believing what she had just heard. With jerky movements, she tried to look away from Akira, but the other girl stopped her from doing that by cupping her cheeks with both hands.

"I'm in love with you, Shika Kiyomizu," said Akira, dead serious. "I'm not kidding. To hell with my traditional family. If they can't accept that their daughter is bisexual, then they're narrow-minded fools."

"U-Uh... O-Okay..." stammered Shika, her hand reaching up in an attempt to take Akira's away from her face.

"And what about you? Who do you like?" demanded Akira, looking fiercely beautiful in the fantastical light. She resembled a goddess of war, stunning, deadly, drop-dead gorgeous.

"I-I... like..." gulped Shika, blushing so hard now, she might get a heart attack and die. "I like you, Akira..." she finally whispered, looking down at the grass.

Shika's lips trembled as she made her confession. Even though Akira had told her that she loved her too, was there really any hope for the both of them?

Akira looked stunned. She had not expected this to happen. She had thought that Shika would name Ryo Izawa as her crush, but no... this was totally unexpected.

"I... don't know what to say," she replied, letting her left hand drop down to her side. "I should be feeling happy that we like each other, but I'm feeling dread instead?"

"It's normal..." said Shika weakly. "After all, this type of love isn't really meant to be. I didn't want to let you know because you were already engaged, but..."

Akira gave her a sad smile. "Engaged to someone I don't love, you mean... You already know that there's only enough space for one person in my heart... And now you know who that person is."

Without warning, Akira tilted her head to one side and drew Shika's face in to hers, kissing her on the lips passionately.

And right there and then, they knew that they had loved one another for a long, long time. It was only because of social stigma that they had kept quiet about it.

...They were glad to finally let each other know.
