Chapter 6
Homura sat in the shadows, listening in on Sayaka, Kyoko and Madoka's conversation.
'So this is war,' She thought, somewhat sadly. 'But I will not forget why I am here, and why I am a magical girl. Trust Kyubey to mess up my plans.'
"Hey, do you hear something?" Kyoko asked, glancing at the shadows around her. Homura stiffened.
"No, why?" Sayaka replied, glancing behind her.
"I thought I heard something, that's all," Kyoko replied, "It was probably just me." They were silent, for a while. Homura relaxed, wondering what she should do now.
Suddenly, a spear hit her in the chest, knocking her out of the shadows. Homura cried out in pain and shock, finding Kyoko and Sayaka standing in front of her, fully transformed, while Kyoko pointed a spear at her throat.
"Looks like we found a murderer," she smirked. Madoka gasped.
"Homura-chan!" She ran forward, whether to hug her or anything else, Homura didn't know. Madoka was immediately blocked by Sayaka's outstretched arm.
"Madoka, stay away from her!" Sayaka cried, "She's dangerous!"
"B-but -" Madoka protested, looking at Homura, hopelessly. In that moment, Homura realised, with a pang of regret, that she had just lost Madoka's trust. Now she had no-one.
'Excuse me everyone!' Kyubey's voice interrupted them, throughout their minds, 'I forgot to mention that at any given point in time, more magical girls may be added to your game. So be on the lookout. Also, don't forget, but at night, just look at your soulgems and you will see everyone who has died in this Hunger Games. Goodbye, and may the odds be ever in your favour.'
Everyone was silent, as Kyubey's voice faded away, digesting this information.
"More magical girls," Kyoko murmured, deep in thought. Homura sensed that this was her chance to escape. Throwing herself backwards, away from Kyoko's spear, and out of contact with any of the other magical girls, she yanked her shield, stopping time just as they began to react to Homura's sudden movements. Getting up as she prepared to leave, Homura paused for a second, watching their shocked expressions, frozen in time, looking last at Madoka, who had only just looked up, tears still glistening in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Madoka," Homura whispered. Pulling out a gun, she aimed the black point at Kyoko's soul gem, on her chest, and hesitated, her finger trembling on the trigger.
"No," She whispered to herself, she had killed enough. Replacing the gun, she turned and ran out of the circle of light and into the darkness.
