Chapter 31 (final)

Oriko stopped, Kirika pulling up beside her abruptly.

"Look." Oriko pointed.

In the distance, just visible through the fog, Ophelia's silhouette lay against the barrier. Fog surrounded her like a mystical veil.

With a scream, Ophelia raised her spear, charging at the barrier, riding low over her mount. A giant crash sounded, sparks flying off the barrier. Kirika could feel the magic being released, and stiffened slightly. The amount of magic was tremendous. It quivered in the air around her, its strength there, but not hers.

"What's she doing?" Kirika frowned, confused.

"I don't know, but something tells me she might be trying to break the barrier. That is the barrier she's attacking rig-" Oriko broke off with a gasp, clutching her forehead, as she leaned against Kirika for support. Kirkka immediately grabbed her, seeing Oriko's eyes close. It wasn't the fact that Oriko was having a vision that scared her, she had them all the time. Now, with her soul gem so close to exhaustion, the vision would burn through her reserves quite fiercely, and Kirika hated to think of the consequences if that happened.

The weight of Oriko slowly lessened, as Oriko struggled to find her footing. Raising herself up steadily, but slowly, she stared at the figure of Ophelia with shadowed eyes.

"What is it?" Kirika asked in a low voice, fearing the worst. Oriko replied, still watching Ophelia.

"I had the vision again, where there was a rift in the barrier, but there was something else. Somewhere, there were people, magical girls, who were trapped" Oriko's eyes were shadowed, as she continued to stare at Ophelia, "I think, Ophelia will cause all these events." Just then, Ophelia crashed into the barrier, her howl hurling through the air. Kirika felt the sudden release of lots of magic. A crack snapped through the air, and the barrier cracked, a giant rift forming in the invisible barrier.

Oriko only watched, understanding trickling into her expression.

The crack stretched through the barrier, extending up into the depths of the fog overhead, the resounding shatter echoing.

"Is that it?" Kirika asked softly. Oriko nodded mutely, her eyes darting around, watching the scene, probably searching for the lost magical girls.

The barrier trembled, but stayed steady, the crack seeming to stay, with no dramatic effect on it.

Ophelia shrieked again, crashing into the barrier with all her might, Albertine floating next to her, also pummeling at the barrier. The barrier shook, an earthquake like roar trembling the ground. Ophelia and Albertine screamed, as they shattered into a white light, their energy diminished.

Thousands of minute cracks lit up on the barrier, making it glow brightly, as white light threatened to break through them.

With a crash, the barrier shattered, white light pouring out, onto anything that resided within the arena. Oriko instinctively raised an arm, trying to shield their eyes.

Madoka looked up with a gasp, as the fog around her disappeared, white light replacing it instead. Homura moaned, her eyes screwed up tightly against the sudden change in light.

Her soul gem wavered slightly, the darkness engulfing it seeming to hesitate.

Immediately, Madoka grabbed Walpurgisnacht's grief seed, pressing it against Homura's soul gem.

As the darkness floated away from the purple diamond, Madoka could feel the taint of the grief in her hands. She shiveres. The grief felt like it was trying to worm its way up Madoka's hands.

A second hand clasped itself around Madoka's hand gently, making her let go of the grief seed. Madoka looked up to see Homura pick up the fallen grief seed, and hold it to her soul gem, watching the last of the grief fade away.

Yuuki hit the ground with a thud, blood streaming from her arm. After killing Nova, Cecilia had proved stronger than ever, fighting against the two magical girls with ease. Miku was standing now, trying to face Cecilia, but even from this distance, she could see Miku shaking, her limbs trembling with over-exertion. Her hair was messy and untied, like Yuuki's and both of them bore cuts and bite marks on their arms, and in numerous places along their body. Cecilia was a very dangerous witch.

Suddenly, the ceiling of the labyrinth above them cracked, white light pouring in, shining on Yuuki and Miku, who bathed in the fresh pure light with relief. Cecilia, on the other hand, howled and writhed, as the light was cast upon her. Finally, she turned away, snaking back, further into the labyrinth, away from the light. Slowly, the labyrinth surrounding Miku and Yuuki evaporated, leaving them where they had been before.

Almost as soon, as they could feel relief, and relax about the disappearance of Cecilia, both of them felt a pull, something which tugged them back. As soon as Yuuki felt it, she felt a pang of hope.

She was going back home wasn't she? She simply lay back and closed her eyes, dreaming of a happy dream.

Homura got up, grabbing Madoka's hand.

"We should go to Oriko and Kirika," She told Madoka, beginning to run to the distant figures of black and white, now visible without the fog.

You're going home now.

As they ran, Homura and Madoka both heard the voice in their minds. Oriko and Kirika looked up as the voice spoke to them. It wasn't Kyubey, it was the voice of an older woman. As soon as she had said this, the four girls felt themselves dissolving, but it was like they were getting transported back home.
