Chapter 19
The clashes rang through the air, as Yuuki crashed her scythe against Miku's sword. She pushed against Miku's oversized sword, willing her own scythe not to break, as sweat began to speckle her forehead, Miku's strength exceeding hers.
The two of them stood, braced against each other, and pushing against their weapons.
Yuuki realised she was tiring, Miku's strength slowly forcing her back, step by step. She came to a split-second choice.
Throwing herself to the side, she managed to avoid getting hit in the face by the sword, her scythe disappearing.
Miku stumbled, thrown off balance by Yuuki's sudden manouvre. Stumbling forward a couple of paces, she managed to avoid falling over, but a piece of rubble tripped her, and she fell, her sword disappearing as she went.
An instinct told her to roll to the side, just as a curved blade pierced the ground where her head was. Miku stared up at the determined blue eyes of Yuuki, her heart in her mouth, before leaping to her feet, and summoning her sword once again. The two faced each other, breathing heavily, feeling the strain of the fight.
Yuuki prepared to block another of Miku's blows again, unsure of how many more blows she could withstand. Miku was tiring though, she could tell, by her labored breathing, but so was she.
Miku took a step back, releasing her sword, and let it disappear in sparkles in the air. Before Yuuki could take the chance though, she summoned a smaller sword, one which was shockingly familiar to Yuuki.
It was fairly ordinary, its blade curved slightly, and a gilded golden handle on the sword. The simplicity, yet the uniqueness. Yuuki knew the sword, she'd seen it in almost every witch battle she had been, but it shouldn't be there anymore, it wasn't right, it was so disrespectful. Miku will pay.
In rage and anger, Yuuki ran at Miku, ignoring her wounded ankle, her scythe flying through the air to combat Miku's sword, the sword of Sayaka Miki. Miku darted to the side, no longer hampered by the weight of her usual weapon.
The lightness surprised her though, how could she deal any damage with this? It barely had any strength, not like her Titan sword, with it's weight so lethal, especially when one was under it, as it came crashing down.
Miku had forgotten that Yuuki had a longer reach than her though. Wincing, she felt the cut scored by Yuuki's curved blade on her left arm. She turned to face Yuuki, who faced Miku, glaring - no, not glaring, positively murdering her with her eyes.
"Stay away from her sword!" Yuuki screamed, beside herself with rage. She ran again at Miku this time, her magic automatically numbing the pain in her ankle. Miku couldn't dodge this time, she was backed up against a crumbled stone wall. She came up with a quick decision.
Tossing her sword up into the air, she focused her magic, and it came back into her hands as a long spear, it's metal head red where the edge wasn't. Bringing the long weapon up, she blocked Yuuki's scythe, grimacing at the surprising strength in the blows. If she had her normal sword, she would smash this annoyance right away. Gritting her teeth in frustration, she struggled to hold the spear in place, the only thing stopping her from getting skewered.
"We'll have to attack it together," Homura told Oriko, "It might not work, but we'll have to try." Oriko nodded.
"Don't fire yet though," Homura added, "I have to set some explosives up first." As she spoke, a line of explosives thundered up, against the barrier.
"Fire as soon as I say." As soon as the last word came out of her mouth, she twisted her shield, time stopping immediately, the ghostly greyness of the scene appearing.
Ignoring the feeling of dread it gave her, Homura summoned a line of hand cannons, and hoisting them onto the shoulder, began firing them all, one by one, watching the bullets stop mid-air, as though held by some invisible force. Finally firing the last one, Homura reached for her shield, and tugged it, time returning, as the bullets began to fly towards the barrier.
"Now!" Homura cried, pressing a red button, setting off the explosives like she had done earlier. Oriko immediately let out a hoard of orbs, which disappeared in the rising smoke, their rings and clashes against the barrier echoing back.
