Part 27

What if I said I loved you?

What if, for a moment, I belonged to you? Like a piece of fine China, a glass of water on a hot summers afternoon
I'm yours
And I'm fragile, and you know that
And, again, for a moment, the sun doesn't turn
The earth stops rotating
The moon freezes it it's path

And we see the sunlight passing through me and it becomes stronger from how I bend it to my shape
And you get burned

So you set me in the shade, in the grass, and forget
And I'll forget too.

So I'll wait as the sun rises and sets in its place
As the endless day passes and comes again
And I see you
And you can't see me
And that's okay, because I said I loved you

And you said it back, even if you forget, even if I'm only a piece of who you used to be

I know I'm there
But this sun is hot
And the shade has moved
And I'm breaking in the light I once bent to become more beautiful
I am no longer enjoying this

The light is nothing but fire
Burning and scalding
Evaporating me where I stand, waiting, watching
For a breath in my direction

And I wonder

What if I never said I loved you?
