********** BIG ANNOUNCEMENT **********
A Message from Bill and Myna
The Poets Pub has been struggling for the past year or two, even though we have over 6000 member there is just a handful of devoted members that participate. We are so very grateful for those of you who have been able to continue to support us and we can never thank you enough for your kindness, devotion and support.
Bill and I have been having many discussions as to what to do with the Pub and we have even discussed the idea that the Pub's time may be coming to an end. But we are not willing to give up on it just yet, so we are working on some new ideas to take the Pub in a new direction.
First, we would like to take the Pub from a competition site to a more of a learning and mentoring poetry site. We would like to see if any of our long-time members would be interested in mentoring newer members and those who are new to poetry.
Second, we would like to end the competitions and focus more on learning how to write poetry and giving one another support in growing as a poet. To this end we would be featuring different poetry forms each month, along with famous poets and song writers and entertaining discussions on specific poems and/or song lyrics.
Third, we are not exactly sure how this is going to shake out just yet, we are just now formulating our ideas, and nothing is written in stone just yet. So, we are open to your ideas and would love to hear from you.
Finally, we will be finishing out this month's contest and then we will be having one more Poet of the Year contest. This Poet of the Year will be open to all members of the Pub and it will only run for three weeks in November. We are still hammering out the details, but we will let you know more as we make the final preparations. So, check back each week here and we will give you more information as we start to take the Pub into the next phase. Again, we are open to any suggestions and thoughts that you may have as to where you would like to see here at the Pub.
We will have updates soon!
Cheers,
Bill and Myna
The Apparition
By John Donne
When by thy scorn, O murd'ress, I am dead
And that thou think'st thee free
From all solicitation from me,
Then shall my ghost come to thy bed,
And thee, feign'd vestal, in worse arms shall see;
Then thy sick taper will begin to wink,
And he, whose thou art then, being tir'd before,
Will, if thou stir, or pinch to wake him, think
Thou call'st for more,
And in false sleep will from thee shrink;
And then, poor aspen wretch, neglected thou
Bath'd in a cold quicksilver sweat wilt lie
A verier ghost than I.
What I will say, I will not tell thee now,
Lest that preserve thee; and since my love is spent,
I'had rather thou shouldst painfully repent,
Than by my threat'nings rest still innocent.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:
Bart was helped up of the floor by a lady named Salmon Smithfield, Sammy for short. She is working with the team that is surveying the salt marsh. It seems that Bart and Sammy, took note of one another and Missy sees it as a good sign that Bart might finally be able to move on from Annie.

Trick or . . .
By lyttlejoe
With witches and goblins and ghosts about
I open my door to the chorused shout
Shell out! Shell out! Shell out!
I see tramp and a princess, a pirate a nurse,
a witch and a monster, now what could be worse
Their bags all opened, I empty my purse
I told the police that none was a kid
That under those costumes some evil had hid
And asked him to come in and see what they did
The bathtub was full and sealed with a stopper
He was bashed on the head, crushing his topper
And laughter ensued when they drowned the copper.

Vampire Ducks
By MystresMyna
Low Flying Vampire Ducks,
Now that is something not seen everyday.
What a wacky sight to behold,
Or to see one at play.
Low Flying Vampire Ducks,
Don't in winter, fly due south,
But they do have fangs,
In their quack, ducky mouths.
Low Flying Vampire Ducks,
Have interesting wings,
They are shaped like bats,
But are covered in feathered rings.
Low Flying Vampire Ducks,
Are animals of a special kind.
So, when you are out on Halloween,
I pray one, you may find.

giant in the garden
By Bill Temple
Goodnight my darling boy
I hope you sleep tight
Mommy and Daddy are down the hall
Everything will be alright
Except
For the giant in the garden
Who wants to grind your bones
His long fingers scratch your window
On windy nights, when you're alone
And if he becomes angered
He roars his mighty roar
And shoots fire from his mouth
And causes the night to storm
You will feel it when he walks
The ground trembles beneath his feet
The house shakes as he pushes and pulls
Trying to get you where you sleep
Scream all you want to
Scream until your body turns blue
Mommy and Daddy won't hear
It's the giant who will be coming for you
And when he smashes your window
And the rain rushes in
His long arm will reach you
And drag you out to him
His blood red eyes will stare at you
His rotten breath will make you sick
He will chew you up and when he's done
Use your leg bone for a toothpick
We will be sad when you're gone
This bedroom will be an empty space
But Mommy and Daddy can make another little boy
Just to take your place
So close those eyes little angel
Mommy will turn out the light
And open the window, just a crack
And bid you a good night
Woot, Woot, or should I say BOO, BOO!! The air is becoming cooler, the trees are changing and as the saying goes, fall is in the air and along with it comes the "spooky" month of October! 'Tis the month for all the ghosts and goolies to come out and have their fun. Here at the Pub we do have a Halloween collection, and we would love to add your Halloween themed poem to it!!
I hope everyone has a fantastic week!!
Remember to... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!
Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
