Pub Chatter 7th Edition - January 17, 2021
WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE
The Owl and the Pussy-Cat
By Edward Lear
I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"
II
Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.
III
"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

December Challenge:
We hope to have a new challenge for you soon!!
This week I thought we would look at some fun and interesting poetry facts:
*The longest poem on record, is the epic poem from India, Mahabharata. It is believed to have been written around the 4th century BC and has more than 1.8 million words.
*The German poet Gottlob Burmann disliked the letter "r" so much that he wrote 130 poems without the use of the letter "r". It is also said he disliked it so much that he even removed it from his speech for the last 17 years of his life. I suppose this means he didn't even say his last name.
*Geoffrey Chaucer, known as the Father of English literature, was the first poet to be buried in Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey. His name is derived from the French chausseur, meaning "shoemaker", and in 1998, an original printing of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales sold at auction for $7.4 million.
*Metrophobia is the fear of poetry. The word was first used sometime in the mid 1980's and there are therapy treatments for it.
*Edward Lear's poem "The Owl and the Pussycat" was inspired by his cat, Foss. When Mr. Lear had to move, he had his house replicated to make is easier for Floss to adjust to the move.
I hope everyone finds creative inspiration this week, in the world around you. Look to the good in humanity to inspire you to pay forward kindness and love. You never know how much a kind word or loving gesture will mean to someone.
And remember to keep those pens and keyboards flying!!
Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
