Pub Chatter 7th Edition - February 28, 2021
WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE
Hello and We are so glad you are here!! How are you on this last day of February?
Sonnet 116: Let me not to the marriage of true minds
By William Shakespeare
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov'd,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:
Josie learned that her brother has been keeping things from her. Jacob's valuables were almost thrown into a fire by Sallie. Sallie struck him with a fire iron on his eyebrow as she threw another verbal threat his way. Bruce was alone in Lou's house until Annie stopped by. It was not to see Bruce but to be near Lou in spirit. She left shortly after and Bruce got to working on his plans.

For one last bit of love poetry history, let us look at the origins of the poem "Roses are Red". All of us have heard the classic, delightfully simple poem:
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you.
But have you ever wondered where it came from and who originally wrote it? Well, the origins of this simple love poem are not easily tracked down, because there are actually several poems that include very similar lines. The oldest of these origin poems seems to be a poem written by Sir Edmond Spencer (1552-1599) around the year 1590, titled 'The Faerie Queen'. In this poem we find the lines:
It was upon a Summers shine day,
When Titan faire his beams did display,
In a fresh fountain, farre from all mens view,
She bath'd her brest, the boiling heat t'alley,
She bath'd with roses red, and violets blew,
And all the sweetest flowers, that in the forrest grew.
Next, there are a couple of nursery rhymes that include similar lines:
A Child's Poem By Gammer Garland, 1783
Roses are red, diddle,diddle
Lavender's blue
If you will have me, diddle, diddle
I will have you.
A Later Love Poem By Victor Hugo (1802-1885)
"We will buy very pretty things
A-walking through the faubourghs
violets are blue, roses are red,
Violets are blue, I love my loves.
It is believed that all of these original sources inspired the beloved modern day "Roses are Red" rhyme. From its humble origins this simple rhyme has taken on a life of its own and become a favorite of everyone from poets to comedians and everyone in between. Almost everyone has tried their hand at writing a version of this poem. Here are a few of my favorites, found in researching this poem.
Roses are red, bacon is redder, there's nothing that bacon can't make taste better!
Roses are red, violets are blue, some poems rhyme, this one doesn't.
Roses are red, chocolate is brown, never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down.
Roses are red, violets are blue, though these are dark times, we will pull through.
Drop one of your favorite "Roses are Red" poems in the comments, one you have heard or an original of your own penning.
Thank you all for stopping by to check out this week's Chatter!! I hope you found value in it and I hope you will meet us back here next week. I will leave you this week with my take on the "Roses are Red" poem:
Roses are red, violets are blue, the Poets Pub is the best, all because of YOU!!
Remember to... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!
Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
