Pub Chatter 7th Edition - February 21, 2021

WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

A Valentine
Edgar Allan Poe

For her this rhyme is penned, whose luminous eyes,
Brightly expressive as the twins of Loeda,
Shall find her own sweet name, that, nestling lies
Upon the page, enwrapped from every reader.
Search narrowly the lines!—they hold a treasure
         Divine—a talisman—an amulet
That must be worn at heart. Search well the measure—
The words—the syllables! Do not forget
The trivialest point, or you may lose your labor!
And yet there is in this no Gordian knot

Which one might not undo without a sabre,
If one could merely comprehend the plot.
Enwritten upon the leaf where now are peering
Eyes scintillating soul, there lie perdus
Three eloquent words oft uttered in the hearing
Of poets, by poets—as the name is a poet's, too.
     Its letters, although naturally lying
         Like the knight Pinto—Mendez Ferdinando—
Still form a synonym for Truth—Cease trying!
You will not read the riddle, though you do the best you can do.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:

3Gun and Myna met up with Brody and Bella.  They heard Bella's story and she mentioned the deed.  3Gun relayed what he knew of CG's past including the shooting she had been blamed for and now 3Gun was convinced they were in the right track.  Myna realized CM was gone, thinking he might have picked up CG's scent again, the group resumed their search together.  CG met with Gabe and they made plans to take care of Ewell's body.  Gabe wants CG to meet with the Mayor and warned CG to keep an eye on Wise, he could cause problems.  On her way back to the hotel, CM found her and CG realized that that 3Gun could be in town as well.  Buck finally healed up and Petra let him go back to work.  No sooner had he arrived at the Sheriff's office, Billy came in looking for Brody or Myna, and Lorne showed up looking for 3Gun.  Billy miss directed Lorne sending him looking for 3Gun elsewhere, when Ron showed up and helped them figure out where everyone was.

POETIC HISTORY:

I am sure that everyone has heard the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.", and so it is with love poems.  The scope and volume of love poems ensures, that all who seek them out, find poetic treasure.  Love is timeless and humans cannot help but write about it, bleeding upon the page their very essence.  In doing so they have given birth to love poems encompassing the whole of human emotion.  From the heartfelt love sonnets of Shakespeare, to the passion laced verses of Pablo Neruda and all the way through the fanciful words of Shel Silverstein, love has been and forever shall be a favored subject for the poet.  Love poetry has been, is, and forever shall be a food for the human soul, waiting to be prepared, served, and devoured.  As we close out the month of love, allow me to leave you with these fine dishes, I hope you savor them.

How Many, How Much
Shel Silverstein

How many slams in an old screen door?
Depends how loud you shut it.
How many slices in a bread?
Depends how thin you cut it.
How much good inside a day?
Depends how good you live 'em.
How much love inside a friend?
Depends how much you give 'em.

"It's all I have to bring today"
by Emily Dickinson

It's all I have to bring today—
This, and my heart beside—
This, and my heart, and all the fields—
And all the meadows wide—
Be sure you count—should I forget
Some one the sum could tell—
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell.

Again and again
Rainer Maria Rilke

Again and again, even though we know love's landscape
and the little churchyard with its lamenting names
and the terrible reticent gorge in which the others
end: again and again the two of us walk out together
under the ancient trees, lay ourselves down again and again
among the flowers, and look up into the sky.

Translated by Edward Snow

I hope everyone has a fantastic week!! Thank you for being such a caring and loving community!!
