Pub Chatter 7th Edition - April 4, 2021

WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

Easter
By Edmund Spenser

MOST glorious Lord of Lyfe! that, on this day,
Didst make Thy triumph over death and sin;
And, having harrowd hell, didst bring away
Captivity thence captive, us to win:
This joyous day, deare Lord, with joy begin;
And grant that we, for whom thou diddest dye,
Being with Thy deare blood clene washt from sin,
May live for ever in felicity!

And that Thy love we weighing worthily,
May likewise love Thee for the same againe;
And for Thy sake, that all lyke deare didst buy,
With love may one another entertayne!
   So let us love, deare Love, lyke as we ought,
   —Love is the lesson which the Lord us taught.

The Words of Recovery

"This above all: to thine ownself be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man."  (Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 3)

These wise words were written by William Shakespeare back in the early 1600's.  You must first be true to yourself before you can be true to anyone else. Self-loathing and denial are realities that many who suffer with addictions struggle with every day.  Recovering from this debilitating condition can be a long and arduous process.  One therapy that is becoming more and more popular in helping individuals and families recover from the devastation of addiction is "Poetry Therapy".

The use of words for medicinal and therapeutic purposes has in all reality been around for thousands of years.  It is believed that the Egyptians would write remedies and words of wisdom on pieces of papyrus, crumble it into warm water to dissolve it and then give it to people to drink for whatever it was that ailed them.

Here in America the very first hospital for the mentally ill, the Pennsylvanian Hospital, founded during the colonial age by Benjamin Franklin, readily used ancillary treatments for patients.  All facets of the art of poetry were employed by having patients read, write and publish their works.

I hope everyone has a lovely Easter and a wonderful week!!
Remember to... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!

Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
