Pub Chatter #17 – March 3, 2017

Welcome to March Dear Pubbers!!

I hope everyone is doing well!! It seems that many have been under the weather, if you are or have been we wish you a speedy recover.

Everyone order your drinks and pull up a bar-stool and we will get this meeting under way with a few announcements.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Personal Announcements:

This week I would like to start off with a heartbreaking personal announcement.  I am terribly sad to say that our beloved lyttlejoe will not be on Wattpad for the foreseeable future.  His wife of over 60 years passed away this week and he has decided to not participate in Wattpad any longer.  Everyone here at the Pub would like to extend to him and his family our sincere condolences.  Lyttlejoe is and always will be a pillar of cheer and enthusiasm here at the Pub.  His wisdom and talent can be seen in just about any book that the Pub has produced.  His Wattpad account is still up and he said everyone is still welcome to read his work but he will not be responding to any comments. Lyttlejoe you are in our thoughts and prayers and there will always be a place for you here at the Pub, if you ever choose to return.  For now your bar-stool will remain empty, with a reserved sign on it, you will be greatly missed.

Secondly, I would like you to know that Bill said he is on the mend and hopes to return to the Pub in the next week or so.  I am sure Bill would like to hear from you, consider stopping by his account and let him know how much we miss him and are looking forward to his return.

Poem-A-Day Challenge:

As I mentioned last week, have opened up the Pub's Poem-A-Day Collection to everyone, even if you are not participating in the challenge you are welcome to send in a poem for this collection. 

We still have several people who are participating regularly.  If you search #PPpoem-a-day you can see who they are and support them in their efforts.  Also if anyone wants to join you can start at any time.  Just send us a private message and let us know you want to participate, use the hashtag #PPpoem-a-day on your collection.  We also have a participation sticker, just private message me and I will get you the link.

I have only received one suggestion for the April 2017 Contest!  You still have time to get your suggestions to me.  Please leave them in the comments or feel free to send them in a Private message.  I will keep this open for one more week.

February Contest:

The February contest is now closed.  Everyone did an amazing job, the submissions are just fantastic!! Well done to all who participated. 

Now we need your help for the judging.  We would like everyone, even if you did not submit a poem, to send us a Private Message and let us know your top three (3) favorite poems.  Please get me your votes by March 10, 2017 so they can be tallied and we can announce our winner in next week's Chatter.

NEW BUSINESS:

March Contest:

The March 2017 Contest is now open for submissions.  This month we will be working with archaic words.  I have included a list of 20 archaic words and their meanings.  You are tasked with writing two poems for this month's contest.

Poem one is to be no longer than 12 lines and must include at least 4 of the words from the list.

Poem two can be any length and must include at least 8 words from the list.

Of course you are welcome to add as many other archaic words as you like, but you must include the ones from the list.  Please remember to use them in context to their original meanings.

New Project – Writer's Handbook:

The first article has been published in the new Writer's Handbook.  I am hoping to be able to publish a new article each week.  There will be a new subject each month and our contributors will each be giving their thoughts, wisdom and ideas about each subject.

If there are any particular subjects you would like to see us cover or you have specific questions you would like answered, please feel free to send them in a Private Message and we will do our best to get them answered.  You can find the new Writer's Hand book here:

MYNA'S MUSINGS:

This week, in honor of lyttlejoe, I would like our poetry prompts to be about friendship.  In some ways cyberspace can be very impersonal.  Many times we never see or meet, in the flesh, people we speak to on a daily basis on the internet.  Yet somehow the friendships created in cyberspace, and particularly here at the Pub, become as strong as any that we have with the people we live near or see regularly.  We are excited to see everyone's new poems and hear how they have been.  When someone has not posted in a few days we get worried and hope that nothing is wrong.  We find out about one another through the written word and get to see each other's raw emotions through their musings.  We support one another and cheer each other on.  And when tragedy strikes we hold one another up, pray for them and let them know we are always here to listen and be a friend.  Technology has allowed us to connect to people we would have never been able to meet or even know existed and for that I am eternally grateful.  With all of this in mind here are your prompts for the week:

Prompt #1 – Write about what friendship means to you.  Think about your friends at home and here in cyberspace.  How have they changed your life, how have they made it better?

Prompt #2 – Write a poem and dedicate it to someone on Wattpad.  Don't do just one, write as many as you like.  Let other people know how they have touched your life; let them know that you care.  We all need to say it and we all need to hear it.
