All of the Kirk's are fast asleep for the night, except for Jake, who is wide awake.

Jake has been up since 2am and it is now almost 4am.

Jake has been feeling some discomfort as he lays down in bed next to his husband Alex. He doesn't know if what he is feeling is contractions, braxton hick contractions or just some gas pain.

Jake has felt both contractions and braxton hick contractions before with the other kids, but he doesn't know which he is feeling right now but he doesn't feel good at all.

However, Jake thinks he should go to the hospital to just get checked out by his doctor, just to be on the safe side and to remain pregnant until full term.

Jake is only twenty seven weeks pregnant right now, so it is way too early for Ruby Raine to be born right now. She would be in the NICU for a few months.

Jake slowly rolls over in bed and he begins to rub Alex's back to wake him up.

"Allie? Allie?" Jake says in a whisper as he begins to shakes Alex awake.

"Huh? What? Are you sick?" Alex asks Jake in a half asleep tone.

"No, I'm not sick, Allie." Jake says as he breathes deeply.

"What's wrong, babe? What's wrong?" Alex asks Jake with concern as he wakes up slowly.

"I think I need to go to the hospital, Allie. I have been having kinda of consistent contractions for almost two hours now." Jake says as he has another contraction.

Alex quickly sits up in bed and holds Jake's hand and rubs circles in Jake's back while Jake has his contraction.

"Oh, fuck! Is it really happening, babe?" Alex asks Jake as he launches out of bed and then he helps Jake out of bed slowly.

"I don't know what's happening." Jake says as Alex holds his hands.

"I am having consistent contractions right now and I am just really scared. It is way too early for Ruby to be born right now. I am only twenty seven weeks pregnant, Allie." Jake says as he rubs his baby bump.

Alex then rubs Jake's baby bump and he kisses Jake's forehead, trying to calm Jake down the best he can.

"It is way too early for and baby to be born let alone our baby girl. We definitely don't want a baby in the NICU, that's for sure. It is going to be okay, babe. It is going to be okay, I promise you, Jakey. Dr. Lee can stop your labor with some medicine, I am sure. Come on love, let's get you to the hospital to get checked out." Alex says softly to Jake as he kisses Jake's forehead tenderly again.

"I know, Allie. Dr. Lee is the absolute best. She will definitely stop things, she is one the best carrier obgyn in Cali. I am just a worry wart that's all." Jake says to Alex softly.

"I would be worrying too if I was pregnant like you, Jakey. Let's pack some quick hospital bags and then we can go to the hospital." Alex says to Jake.

"Okay, babe." Jake says to Alex softly as he hugs Alex.

Alex and Jake both quickly pack a hospital bag, just incase Jake has to stay in the hospital for a few days.

"Hey, babe?" Alex says from the closet.

"Yeah?" Jake says as he begins to have another contraction.

"Who can we call to watch the kids? We can't bring four little kids to the labor and delivery floor. They won't let us do that especially if they are monitoring you and Ruby." Alex says as he tries to figure out which friend can help them out in the middle of the night.

"Can you call Gabby? She can watch the kids for us. She always told me she would and could if we needed help. And we really need help right now." Jake says to Alex as he takes a few deep breaths.

Alex calls up Jake's best friend Gabby on Jake's iPhone and she rushes over to the Kirk house within ten minutes to stay at the Kirk house with Scarlett, Aurora, Levi, Avery and the cats Swifty and Gaga.

Gabby and Jake are very close friends and Gabby and Jake both made a promise to each other that they would help each other any time and any place no matter what.

Alex and Jake both tell Gabby the kid's morning routine during the weekend so she knows what to expect before they leave the house and rush to the hospital.

Alex and Jake are both so grateful to have amazing friends that can help them at any time, since both of their families live out of state and can't help a lot.

Alex drives as fast as he can to the hospital, without going over to speed limit or anything crazy. Jake continues to have contractions every couple of minutes.

However, they are beginning to slow down, which is a very good sign.

"I really hope Ruby doesn't have to come out tonight. I really don't want a sick and small baby in the NICU, Allie." Jake says as he begins to cry at Alex and he tries to not have a panic attack.

"Shhh, shhh, shhh. It's okay, it's okay, baby. The best thing to do right now is to not put anymore stress on your body. It will all be okay, it will all work out. I know it will, love. Your doctor is the best ever and she can fix this and help you and Ruby remain healthy and safe." Alex says softly to Jake as he rubs Jake's leg softly.

Jake sighs and squeezes Alex's hand out of nervousness.

"I love you, Allie." Jake says softly.

"I love you too, Jakey." Alex says softly to Jake as he rubs Jake's leg and then his baby bump.

Alex and Jake arrives at the hospital twenty minutes later and Jake is quickly seen by his obgyn, Dr. Lee!

- A Few Hours Later -
Jake is all settled in his hospital room where he is going to be for about a day or two, just to be monitored, to get lots of fluids and other medicines.

Jake's obgyn, Dr. Lee has stopped Jake's preterm labor with multiple shots in his butt and lots of other medicines! Jake is just so glad that Dr. Lee was at the hospital on call and not some other random doctor.

And luckily for Jake, he hasn't dilated any and his cervix is still closed, so all of the contractions Jake has had in the past few hours hasn't made any progress, which is great for both Jake and Ruby. Ruby gets to stay inside of Jake for the remainder of the pregnancy - hopefully!

Alex smiles at Jake who keeps falling asleep on him. Alex wishes he could help Jake hey some sleep but Jake can't sleep when lights are on.

"How are you feeling, baby?" Alex asks Jake softly as he rubs circles in Jake's back.

"I'm fine, I am just really tired. I slept literally an hour last night. Also, I hate all of these shots I am getting in my ass. My ass is so fucking sore." Jake says, making Alex giggle and smile. 

"I know Jakey, but they are keeping you pregnant for the last twelve weeks of your pregnancy. We need to make sure Ruby is nice and healthy when she is born." Alex says as he kisses Jake tenderly twice.

"I know, that's why I am not complaining too much. I am doing this so Ruby can stay in my tummy until it is time for her to come out. She is so freaking stubborn already." Jake says as Alex giggles at Jake again.

"All of the kids are stubborn! Must be a Kirk or Updegraff gene." Alex says as Jake smiles at Alex. 

"It is probably a Kirk gene honestly." Jake says playfully to Alex as Alex playfully gasps at Jake.

Jake then looks at the ultrasound pictures that he got last night from an ultrasound he had. Dr. Lee did an ultrasound last night on Ruby just to make sure Ruby was doing well! Ruby is doing very well actually, she is a week ahead in growth and she is very active!

"Ruby is so freaking cute. From these ultrasound pictures, she looks like Aurora did when I were pregnant with her." Jake says to Alex happily.

"Aurora favors you so much while the other three look just like me." Alex says a he giggles and Jake giggles too.

"Finally another baby that favors me! However, I am very happy either way. She is a gift from my grandma and she is special." Jake says with a grin.

"She sure is." Alex says as he kisses Jake's baby bump, feeling Ruby move around.

Jake then plays with Alex's blonde hair and rubs his head.

"We both need a nap." Alex says as he yawns.

"I know, but you can't nap in a hospital." Jake says to Alex as he yawns.

A few minutes later, Nurse Rayne walks into the hospital room to check on Jake and his vital signs and to also introduce himself to Jake and Alex!

"Hello, Mr. Updegraff-Kirk! My name is Rayne! I am your nurse this shift!" Nurse Rayne says as he happily shakes Jake and Alex's hands. 

"Hello, Rayne! It is nice to meet you!" Jake says to Rayne as he shakes his hand.

"It is nice to meet you as well! And our  daughter's middle name is going to be Rayne! But we are spelling it R-A-I-N-E." Alex says happily to Rayne.

"Oh my gosh, I love that middle name! What are you guys naming your daughter?" Nurse Rayne asks Jake and Alex as he begin to check Jake's vital signs.

"Ruby Raine Kirk!" Jake says proudly and happily to Rayne.

"I LOVE the name Ruby! It is so pretty and it reminds me of The Wizard of Oz movie, which is one of my all time favorite movies!" Nurse Rayne says to Jake and Alex.

"My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz and my husband FINALLY let me get a Wizard of Oz baby name." Alex says to Rayne, making Rayne and Jake both laugh and smile.

"Ruby Raine is a really pretty baby name, I love it! And your vitals look great, Mr. Updegraff-Kirk and so does Ruby's! I will check on you in a few hours! However, if you need anything before then just call the nurses station and I'll come!" Rayne says to Jake and Alex happily.

"Thank you so much, Rayne!" Jake says with a cheeky grin.

"Thank you!" Alex says happily to Rayne.

"You're welcome! Get some rest!" Rayne says as he

Jake and Alex hang out for the majority of the day!

- A Day And A Half Later -
After being in the hospital for almost two days for observation and lots of fluids, Jake can finally come home!

Jake's preterm labor has officially stopped and baby Ruby is happily still cooking in Jake's womb until December - hopefully!

Jake is going to be on a modified bed rest per his doctor's request for a few weeks just to make sure his body doesn't go in labor again.

Jake isn't looking forward to being on bed rest and being stuck in bed for a few weeks, but he has to do it in order to keep Ruby inside cooking and growing for the last twelve weeks of his pregnancy.

Jake has just taken a very much needed hot shower and he is now packing up his hospital bag back up, while Alex is getting some coffee for himself and a vanilla bean frappuccino for Jake. Alex hasn't slept much these past two days so a coffee is much needed for him right now

Alex walks back into Jake's hospital room with a large coffee for him and a medium vanilla bean frappuccino for Jake.

"Here is your vanilla bean frappuccino you have been wanting, love." Alex says as he hands Jake the Starbucks drink and tenderly kisses Jake.

"Thank you! I have been dying for something sweet. And I am sure Ruby will be very excited about this too." Jake says as he happily drinks his vanilla bean frappuccino.

Alex chuckles at Jake and kisses Jake's cheek.

"I have been dying for coffee, hints why I got a large coffee today." Alex says as Jake giggles.

"Are you ready to go home, babe?" Alex asks Jake softly.

"Yes, I am so ready. I really hate being in the hospital." Jake says to Alex as he drinks some more of his vanilla bean frappuccino.

"I know you do, love. I hate you being in here. I hate being here too. But I'm so glad everything with you and Ruby are fine. I was worried about you two."

"I was worried too. I never had preterm labor before so that was really scary. I am just so glad that my labor was stopped and Ruby is doing well." Jake says as he happily rubs his baby bump and Alex rubs Jake's baby bump too.

Jake's obgyn Dr. Lee walks in and discharges him from the hospital!

Alex and Jake happily walk out of the hospital together, holding each other's hands.

"Wanna get some lunch, love?" Alex asks Jake softly.

"Yes, I would love that!" Jake says as smiles and blushes at Alex.

"Okay, my treat! Let's go and have a nice lunch before we see our babies again." Alex says to Jake.

"Let's go!" Jake says happily to Alex.

Alex and Jake get in the car together, have a very nice lunch out and then head home to reunite with the kids and the cats!

Jake is very happy to be back home with Alex, Scarlett, Aurora, Levi, Avery and the cats! Jake and Alex are so glad that Ruby is going to cook for a few more months!

Luckily, my doctor was able to stop my labor right away and I should be able to have Ruby in December as planned. ❤️ I am so grateful to have a doctor who makes sure myself and Ruby are both doing well and that both of us are healthy. 😊"
