Part Two

Every Sunday was a day off for me, no exceptions. Yet, for some odd reason there was a knock on the front door. I worked for a complex system that used people like me. It was a mentally exhausting job, but it paid the bills and I got to help people find peace, so it wasn't such a bad thing being used for good.My bosses supplied me with clients to make appointments with, but I was not notified about a new client, especially on a Sunday when I didn't work because I had to rest my mind.

It was strange to me because no one knew where I lived, the only people that ever showed up were clients and the pizza delivery man.

As I passed by the coat hangers, I grabbed my jacket and mounted it on my shoulders to protect myself from the cold air of an early December. I struggled to open the front door, the knob sometimes got jammed and I had to push, kick and pull the door to get it working.Nick was supposed to fix it a long time ago but kept forgetting.

Something clicked and I smiled as I opened the door to greet the visitor.

"Hello, how may I help you?" I said to the man wearing the black suit and holding a suspicious looking briefcase.

Without saying a word, he raised the briefcase and opened it. I stared at the money inside, the hundred dollar bills all laid perfectly on top of each other. Never in my life had I seen that much cash in one place. I looked at the man, confused.

"I need to speak to my brother and I was told you could help me,"the man said, removing his hat and holding it over his chest. "My name is Chester."

"I'm sorry, I'm usually told about anyone that shows up before they do."

"Yes, they informed me it was your day off, but I'm afraid it's an emergency." He looked sad, and desperate.

"Alright, come in," I said, stepping aside to let him enter my home.

"Thank you so much for helping me, I truly am sorry if I've caused any inconvenience."

The only thing I could think of was the money in his briefcase. One downside to being a psychic for these people I worked for was the fact that I only served rich and powerful people. It was supposed to keep me safe and a secret from the rest of the world. But I also cared about those who could not afford such things and needed the help.

"Payments aren't made upfront, I assume you know that as well?"I told him as I lead him to the library. "Especially not cash."

"Yes, I'm aware. They said it was okay."

Nick was on the computer when we entered, wearing a headset that muted any outside sounds. Which was why he jumped in surprise when we entered the room and saw the strange man behind me, because he hadn't heard any knock.

"Um."

"Nick, this is Chester. Chester, this is my husband, Nick," I introduced them both.

"Who is Chester?" Nick asked, confused, speaking as if he wasn't in the room with us.

Chester walked towards the desk and gently placed the briefcase in front of Nick and stepped back. "I'm sorry to bother you both on a Sunday, but it was an emergency. They let me visit Aimee today, hoping she could help me. In exchange, I have offered quite a lot of money for your help, cash. So they won't have any say on how much you keep and how much they keep, it's all yours." He smiled as Nick flipped open the briefcase and his eyes went wide.

"Do you want me to stay?" Nick asked, looking into my eyes.

"I don't mind," Chester replied instead.

"Sure, if he doesn't mind," I said, smiling at the man.

The table was prepared quickly, cleared of any junk and replaced with a single orb. Chester took his seat opposite of me and took a deep breath. I felt like he had gone through this before, maybe whatever he was looking for he hadn't found with other psychics. I tried to clear my mind of any doubt and began to breathe with him.

"Who are you looking for?"

"My brother, Venemor."

I touched his hand to begin, and instead of receiving images about who Venemor was, I entered the realm of the dead instantly without even meaning to. I felt frozen on the other side, the human side. I couldn't move or speak.

"What's going on? Hello? Nick? Chester?" I called their names but didn't hear anything back.

I was in the library room, on the other side. I could still see them, but they weren't moving. Nothing was different, nothing felt out of the ordinary, yet everything was wrong. I never meant to move between worlds, I didn't even do anything but touch the man's hand.

"Have you found him? My brother?" I heard Chester's voice, but his human apparition hadn't moved his mouth.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I stood up and left the table, searching for any sign of Chester's brother. I couldn't be sure, but if I never said his voice, how would I find him? His brother couldn't find me if I never even tried in the first place.

"Venemor? Can you hear me?" I called out, hoping my voice would find him.

In this realm, there was no sun and moon, so why did it look like it was suddenly getting darker as seconds went by? Quickly, I ran to the windows and looked outside. There was nothing in the sky, but everything was still darkening like somehow I was entering a tunnel.

"NICK!" I shouted. Something was very wrong.

That was when I saw it. The dark figure looking at me through the double doors, except it was only its head peaking out of the corner. It wasn't human. As it slowly revealed itself, I saw that it was naked, no visible hair on it's sickly white skin, no nose and it had white dead eyes. It smiled at me, showing me its long sharp teeth and a long snake-like tongue. It was extremely tall and skinny, but terrifying. It walked both on foot and hands, back arched upwards like a spider.

Then it began to run after me.

My heart pounded with adrenaline. I gasped and ran in fear for my life. The creature jumped over me and I ducked, rolling under a table and sprinting for the double doors. I closed them behind me as the creature shrieked loudly. The shriek was so loud even behind the doors that I felt my ears pop and everything went quiet, like a gun had fired beside my head.

There was no where I could run, I wasn't prepared for something like this. I always knew the other side was filled with the unknown but I never had the privilege of finding out what kind of unknown. The creature had to be a demon, and as the light in this world vanished and left me in complete darkness, I felt the door behind me rattle.

Not only could I not hear, but now there was nothing in front of me but black. I had never been in total darkness before, there was always something to guide me. Even at night in the comfort of my home, I had the moon, or street lamps outside, or even a phone.

The door busted open, throwing me to the side. I crawled back against the nearest wall and covered my mouth. The air to my right felt oddly cold, it had to be a sign that the demon was beside me. I couldn't stop shaking, I tried so hard to keep calm but the longer I thought about the darkness, the more I saw it's face in my mind, and the closer I was to being found.

The floors were made of wood, so when the demon walked, I felt the wood vibrate against my hands. It gave me hope, because I could feel that it was walking away from where I sat. I couldn't see it, and it couldn't see me.

All I could do was wait, breathing deeply and quietly. I couldn't trust myself to escape without being caught. To be honest, I wasn't so confident I could even escape alive either. Everything I was taught, everything that I knew wasn't going to help me in this moment.

Suddenly, like opening blinds on a sunny morning, light appeared. It was coming from my forehead and it was illuminating everything in front of me like a powerful lantern. I became anxious, breathing harder with fear as my shaking hands went to touch my skin and I felt something that didn't belong.

It was an eye.

I screamed, unable to hold the fear in much longer. Something was happening to me and I couldn't run away from it, because it was apart of me. My third eye opened. I heard stories about it, but nothing that would answer me why.

As a human, the only thing I knew to do was run and live. So I did,as fast as I could. I knew this home better than the demon, I could buy myself enough time to figure out how to get back to my world. The demon heard me and was in the process of chasing me, but I didn't look back. The light safely guided me up the stairs, lighting anything I looked at.

In the end, this wasn't my world,it was theirs. I could not run anymore, there was nowhere else to go.I was in my room when I turned around to face the demon. It stood up straight as it entered my room, becoming taller than I thought and reaching out to grab me. I couldn't even close my eyes when it lifted me to eye level. If this was how I died, I wanted to be awake, I wanted to see.

Its raised a clawed hand and pressed it into my forehead. Everything in that moment made sense, like a part of my mind and the demon's mind connected. The demon came to me because I called it, darkness enveloped this world because it was the only way my third eye would open, and it was the only way the demon could possess me. My third eye opened as a defense mechanism, trying to protect me by shining a light on the unknown. But it was all a set up, a trap of some kind.

Everything went black once more as I felt the familiar sensation of my body and mind rushing to collide. It felt a little different, like I was thrown instead. My eyes rolled to the back of my head, I became nauseous and dizzy. When everything snapped back into place, I was sitting in front of Chester with Nick by the windows looking at me. But I didn't come back in one piece, I screamed louder than I ever had in my life. The energy, mixed with adrenaline, mixed with emotions and my fear caused me to somehow telepathically break everything in front of me, pushing it out a couple feet away from me.

I killed Chester, and I would have killed Nick if he had been in front of me. Right after I stopped screaming I threw up a black substance and fainted.
