I️ didn't sleep at all that night. I️ heard Akihiko snoring from the couch and saw Koharu quietly sleeping on a futon on the floor. But I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about what I had found.
   "You didn't get any sleep," Koharu said, folding up the futon and looking at me. "You look like a reck."
"Ugh," Akihiko shivered. Koharu glared at him. A few seconds later he was on the floor begging for mercy.
"Good," Koharu said, getting off Akihiko. "Let's go apply now."
   "Alright!" Akihiko shouting. "I'm ready to get to work right away!"
   "I️ don't think that would happen," Koharu said. "But I've heard they've been short on members the last six months or so."
   "Come on," I️ said. "Let's just go already." We left my apartment and headed towards the application building near the center of the city. Sibyl was doing the daily announcements on the screens on the sides of the buildings as we walked.
Suddenly someone screamed and everyone looked at a guy holding a knife against a young girl's throat. She was crying trying to free herself.
"Damnit," Akihiko sighed, looking at the guy. "We're having a perfectly normal morning and then this happens?" Drones were trying to push their way through the crowd and, like many times before, they were going to try to tell the guy his Hue was turing a bad color.
"Come on!" I️ called to Koharu and Akihiko. I️ ran towards the guy and he looked at me surprised. He tried stabbing me with the knife, but I️ slid under his outward arm and kicked his legs. He fell, releasing the girl and throwing the knife. Koharu grabbed the girl, and Akihiko caught the hilt of the knife. When the guy tried to get up, I️ jumped on top of his back.
"Doing this in pubic is not a good idea, dude," he said, closing the knife.
"Everybody get back!" a girl shouted, holding a Dominator in her hand. Two males followed her. One of them had short, dark brown hair and deep, orange eyes. The other one had spiky, light brown hair and grey eyes.
"Here you go, officer," Akihiko called, tossing the pocket knife at her. The dark brown male caught it, blocking the three of us from her.
"Who are you kids?" he asked.
"We're just protecting this girl from that guy," Koharu exclaimed, still making sure the girl was alright. "Of course, this crowd will need to go."
"Right," the woman said. She signaled to the light brown man who nodded.
"Alright!" the man called, shooing the crowd away. "Nothing to see here!"
"Let's go," Akihiko said, looking at me. I️ nodded, but remembered the unconscious guy under me.
"We can take it from here," the woman said, pointing her Dominator at the unconscious guy. "My name is Eiko Momoi. MWPSB CID Inspector Division 2. Thank you for acting when you did. That man over there" -she pointed at the man getting rid of the crowds- "is Shima Yukishima. The other man is Nagisa Tachibane."
"Nice to meet you," I️ said, getting up. "My name is Haruko Takashima. These are my friends Koharu Fujimuro and Akihiko Sumi. We are applying for a job at in the MWPSB CID."
"Really now?" Eiko asked, looking at the three of us. She then smiled, nodding her head. "You all don't seem to be afraid of putting your life on the line for other citizens."
"It's not a problem," Koharu said. "We really must be going."
"Hope to see you around, Miss Eiko!" Akihiko exclaimed, walking after Koharu.
"Nice meeting you," I️ said, smiling and walking away.
"Hold on a second," Eiko said. I️ turned around and looked at her. "Your eyes... they remind me of his."
"Who's?" I️ asked. "Do you know my parents? Hotaru and Seiji Takashima?"
"Yes," she nodded, Shima and Nagisa joining.
"Who's this little girl?" Shima asked. Nagisa must've noticed my eyes like Eiko did.
"I️'m not little, thank you very much," I️ said.
"You two," Eiko said. "You were in Division 3 when Hotaru and Seiji Takashima were murdered, correct?"
"Yes," Nagisa said. "It's nice to meet you, Haruko Takashima."
"No way!" Shima exclaimed. "This little shirmp is their daughter!?"
"Something wrong?" I️ asked him.
"You look just like Hotaru, but have Seiji's eyes," Nagisa said. "We were all Inspectors at the time in Division 4, and a joint assignment had Divisions 3 and 4 work together. Division 3 was Hotaru and Seiji and Division 4 was me and Shima. We had just finished our mission, but we didn't know the damn bastard had a friend waiting nearby. It was the one and only Shogo Makishima. After seeing the two Divisions get wiped out, our Crime Coefficient skyrocketed into the 109s."
"We were just dumb cowards at the time," Shima said. "We had our Enforcers do all the work. But after that day, we regret doing that. Maybe if we helped, none of them would've gotten killed."
"Oh," I️ said softly. I️ felt Koharu's hands on my shoulders as she comforted me. My vision got blurry and I️ looked at the ground. Tears fell from my eyes, but I️ wiped them away.
"We really should get going," Akihiko said, stepping in front of the two of us. "We're glad we could be of use to you this morning." The three of us walked away as I️ held my head high, knowing how my parents died.

"She looks exactly like a special Enforcer we know, doesn't she?" Nagisa asked, watching us leave.
"Let's report back, Nagisa," Eiko said, not answering him. She walked away, but Shima and Nagisa still stared at our backs.
