Strawberry.
Last chapter, get your tissues. I don't think this one was that sad, but still, get your tissues.
Finns pov
I woke up, getting a chill from Millie's hand still intertwined with mine. It's cold, colder than usual.
I opened my eyes, and let go of her hand, and smiled, thinking of last night. Or just yesterday in general.
That's probably one of the best days of my life. Just Millie and I.
I looked over to her, and she was still sleeping.
I touched her face, and it was freezing. I furrowed my eyebrows, and realized her face was pale.
I gasped, sitting up and backing up.
"No. No," I said, getting up, starting to pace, not being able to breathe well.
"No," I said again, my eyes starting to fill with tears.
I sat back down on the bed, and took Millie's hand.
"'Millie, wake up please," I said, and then checked for her pulse, the last thing I want to do.
Nothing. Nothing.
"Millie!" I screamed. I screamed so loud I thought the neighbors could hear it.
My mom opened the door quickly, seeing what was wrong, and I fell off the bed, and sat next to it, back against it, tears pouring out of my eyes.
She walked over to Millie, and she gasped.
"Mom, wake her up, please wake her up!!" I said, trying to control my crying.
"I'm sorry honey," She said, sitting down next to me, embracing me in a hug. I broke down, and didn't stop crying for a while.
"This isn't real, it can't be real." I repeated to my mom. Maybe I was just repeating it to myself.
Millie's dead. She's dead.
-
The song Dancing on my Own came on, and I looked over to Millie.
"Do you wanna dance?" I asked her, and she looked down.
"I've never been to a dance before, so I don't know how." She said, and I smiled.
"Can I teach you?" I asked her, and she took my hand, and I took us to the dance floor.
I took both of her hands. "So your hands go here," I said, putting her hands around my neck, and then I gently slid my hands onto her waist. We started swaying back and forth, and she looked up to my eyes.
"Yeah, like that," I said, and we both smiled.
The song lasted for a while, and the eye contact we had was really strong, and she looked down. I tightened my grip around her waist, and she smiled, and looked up at me. I smiled back, and she leaned her head against my shoulder, closed her eyes, and I pulled her
closer to me.
-
"Finn woke up and found her. We didn't know what to do so we called an ambulance." My mom said.
"I came here as fast as I could," Millie's mom said, crying. They hugged.
"Millie?" I asked, as I opened the door from the knocking. It was around 12. Why would Millie be here?
"I need to do something." She said, and I furrowed his eyebrows, opening the door more.
"What?" I asked, and she looked at me. I love her eyes.
She took both sides of my face with her hands and leaned in, connecting our lips together. Her lips were soft, and I was pressing back against hers. The kiss lasted for a couple seconds, and I moved my hand to her upper side.
"Finn? Who's at the door?" I heard my mom say, and footsteps walking down the stairs. We pulled apart and I then mouthed 'sorry' and closed the door.
"Nobody, I thought someone knocked." I said, hoping my mom would believe me.
"Okay. Come up to bed." She said.
"Okay." I said, and she made me go up first. I couldn't go back.
After a couple minutes of being in bed, I went back downstairs to see if Millie was still there, but she wasn't.
Why did she kiss me? I liked it. I did. She tasted like strawberry.
"Do you know the time of death?" The doctor asked her mom, as I sat in a waiting chair. Memories keep coming back to me, and won't leave.
"How am I supposed to know? She died in her sleep!" Millie's mom said.
"Millie?" I asked her, and she turned to me. I haven't talked to her since the kiss, and we are going on a road trip tomorrow. I'm planning on telling her.
"Hey Finn." She said, and I smiled, but it went away. We were now standing outside of the van, not in yet.
"Millie look, I-
"I don't know why I kissed you, Finn. I really don't. My feelings were all weird that night, but I don't like you like that. I like you as a friend. So you don't have to worry about it." She said, and my eyes met hers.
"Okay." He said, and we both smiled.
"So we're good?" She asked, and I smiled.
"Yep." I said. We fist bumped, and laughed.
-like you.
I never got to tell her then.
-
"Finn, we're saying goodbye." My mom said, putting her hand on my back.
I got up and walked over to the room Millie is in, and stopped at the door.
"I'd like to go in alone, if that's fine." I asked her, and she nodded.
I opened the door and closed it, and let out a shaky breath.
I turned around to see Millie in the hospital bed, still wearing my clothes.
I walked over there and sat down in a chair next to her, and started crying.
"I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you earlier. I'm sorry I didn't just say that I liked you. We could of had so many more memories, so many more opportunities for things.." I started to rant, and I looked at her.
"I love you so fucking much, how am I supposed to live without you? I was going insane in the waiting room. I didn't even realize people were talking. Memories of us will just cloud my mind. You're the person who got me to start talking more. You're the person who made me happy. You're the person who I wouldn't mind spending the whole day with. You're you. But there's no me without you." I said, and it was silent.
"But I'm not giving up. You'd want me to be happy. And I'm going to try and be happy, for you." I said, and looked at her.
She's beautiful.
"So what was Ava's birthday wish?" She asked, and a smile grew on my face.
"I can show you." I said, and she raised her eyebrows.
"Where?" She asked, and I smiled.
"You have to close your eyes." I said, and she smiled.
"Okay you can't get mad, because it's her birthday wish." I said, and she nodded, and closed her eyes.
"Are you leading me there? Or-
I didn't let her finish her sentence, because I pressed my lips against hers, something I've wanted to do for a while.
I felt her hand go to the side of my face, and my lips pressed a little harder against hers, and she did it back.
That's when I heard giggles again, and we both slowly broke apart, and turned our heads to Ava and Bri.
"Ava!" Millie yelled, and they laughed, running upstairs.
She turned back to me, and we both smiled.
"Strawberry?" I asked, and she laughed and hit my arm, as I was admiring every feature of her.
Strawberry. It was always strawberry chapstick.
I stood up and looked at her one more time.
"I love you....so much. You don't understand how much I love you." I said, and got one more glimpse of her before turning around.
Don't look back.
Some days, I can still taste the strawberry on my lips.

THE END.
What was your opinion on the book?
Did you like it?
Did you cry?
Any questions that weren't answered in the book that you want me to answer?
I know the ending was sad, but I think it was a beautiful story about how a girl with a mental illness can find love, because she isn't limited. And Finn was there for her.
THE END :) :(
