Explosion

Mob felt very motivated by Hairo. He kind of reminded him of his captain at the body improvement club, in a way. Always trying to push everyone to their fullest, even Mob who still struggled with any physical activity. Well, Kaidou did too, oftentimes struggling beside him in the marathon or anything physical. He did admire his determination.

"Mob, I'm only going this slow because I haven't released my full power," Kaidou wheezed out a chuckle. "I want to give people a chance." He would've said something if he wasn't also out of breath. Feeling his vision blur in front of him as he struggled to stay up and keep running. Even Kaidou was performing a little better than him, despite how slow he is. Mob wheezed, his lungs and chest burning. He might pass out… "W..wait, are you..okay?" Kaidou stuttered, Mob couldn't even lift a simple thumbs up before his legs gave out from under him. Collapsing to the ground and blacking out from exhaustion.

—---

"Mob, I admire your determination, however, you shouldn't push yourself that hard." Matsuzaki reprimanded, he was sitting up in bed. Currently in the nurse's room, a glass of water being handed to him

"Thank you." He muttered, feeling a little disappointed he had passed out so early on. Not being in the body improvement club made him a little weaker without the rigorous training. He wondered if there was a work out club at this school too.

"Feeling okay?" Mob nodded, taking a small sip of the water. He didn't feel exhausted anymore, already feeling strength returning to his body. "Alright. Get back to class once you're feeling better."

With that the teacher left, leaving him with the glass of water. Small sips being taken as he mulled over his time at the school. It wasn't the same as being at Salt highschool, if anything Mob missed his friends dearly. Maybe he could visit them sometime…

----------

Saiki watched Mob enter back into the classroom during lunch. Kuboyasu, Nendo, and Kaidou were already sitting near him and talking, with the psychic now sitting down and joining them. Great, another addition. He didn't know why Mob refused to use his powers to help him with the marathon, he could've easily kept up a steady pace. Like Saiki. Instead he ran without them and passed out as a result. 'I wonder where he is… maybe he's in class now.' A new voice entered Saiki’s head, an unfamiliar one. A boy who looked similar to Mob entered the class, glancing around before his eyes landed on Mob.

"Oh, brother. I see you're doing okay." His name is Ritsu, a year younger than Mob but goes to the same school. Of course Saiki knew he was coming, with the amount of worried thoughts running around in his head. He's glad he can at least read Ritsu’s mind, not having another static case like Mob.

"Yeah, I pushed myself a little too hard." Mob muttered, a smile of relief crossing his brother's face.

"Wait, you have a brother?" Kuboyasu looked surprised, like it was a big deal. Mob never really mentioned it. He actually didn’t speak much about himself, he just didn’t talk a lot in general.

"Ha, he does kind of look like you." Nendo said, Ritsu turned to glare at him.

"You've made friends, nice." 'Is he hanging out with delinquents? That guy looks like a bad influence.' An overprotective younger brother. Makes sense. With how shy and passive Mob is he needed some sort of protection. He often refuses to use his psychic powers unless it's against some kind of spirit. Saiki knew Ritsu had psychic powers too, just from how he thought of taking Nendo down with them if he caused trouble. That and his arua. If Saiki concentrated, he could feel Mob's massive one too. "Just know, if you even-"

"Ritsu, it's fine." Mob interrupted his threat, smiling as the younger brother casted more glares. "I'm okay." He didn't seem to believe Mob's words, hesitating to leave the classroom. 'I swear, if they do anything I'll kill them. Though what's with that pink haired guy? He almost feels the same way Nii-san does, psychic power wise. I better keep an eye on him.' Great, another person was going to follow him around.

"Alright, bye." With that he left, leaving them alone. Saiki definitely has to watch his back now.

"Your brother seems… nice." Kaidou said, with a lot of uncertainty.

"Ritsu is amazing, he's really smart." Mob spoke about his brother with admiration, he truly cares for him. Well, Saiki couldn't hurt Ritsu no matter what. Not that he planned to, but with how Mob spoke about him he would probably tear Saiki apart if he did anything. Or maybe not. Good grief, he really wished he could just read the psychic's mind.

"Is he a psychic too?" Kaidou asked, Mob nodding. "You two should join me in the fight against Dark Reunion! I could use your assistance." Didn't they already establish that Mob wouldn't help, he doubted Ritsu would too.

"Shut up, little runt," Nendo muttered.

"What did you say? If I took off these bandages you would be finished." Kaidou threatened Nendo, laying a hand on his arm like he actually had a weapon.

"Okay, then do it."

"No. The power would destroy the school," sure it would.

"Ah Mob, it's good to see you back on your feet." Another annoyance walked over to the table, Hairo. "The passion you had back there was amazing! Just don't push yourself to passing out.'' Mob did seem really motivated by Hairo, hell, everyone in the class was except him.

"I wish I didn't have such bad stamina. That's kind of why I was in a body improvement club back at my old school." Mob said that with a hint of sadness in his tone. It made sense why he wouldn't use his powers to assist him, if he wants to improve his body. Must be why he didn't use them for the marathon.

"Really? Why?" Kuboyasu asked, Mob shrugged, a blush crossing his cheeks. "Ooh, you wanted to impress a girl." His entire face turned red, looking as if he would burst.

"Psychic powers don't impress girls," Mob whispered. "Though you're really strong, what did you do?"

"Oh? Umm, well… I just kind of worked out and all," Kuboyasu stuttered. 'I can't tell him I beat people up! He would definitely hate me if he knew.' Mob hummed, giving no clue as to whether he believed him or not. "But I'm sure if you keep at it you'll become strong too."

"Really?" Mob said with shining eyes at the encouragement, Kuboyasu nodded. "Thank you."

Saiki wasn't sure if he liked the image of an extremely buff Mob.

—---

Saiki and Mob were similar in more ways than he previously thought. Exhibit A, like him, Mob never got overly emotional. There were never times where he yelled at someone in anger or even cried.

He remembered seeing three people threaten Mob for his money. Thrashing the poor psychic around who had his hands raised and saying he doesn't have any. He didn't use his powers, even though everyone at school knew of them, so why did he still hide? Mob was then saved by his brother, who was lagging behind and scared them off. Mob really is a pacifist, refusing to even lay a hand on someone. He instead tries to talk it out or convince them what they're doing is wrong. Saiki couldn't help but worry a little, one day he may find himself in a situation that can't be talked out of or saved by. Or maybe he already had encountered one. Good grief, he's been way too focused on this psychic, wanting desperately to read his mind. Just to understand Mob. While he understanded not wanting to hurt people, if they're attacking you why not defend yourself? Especially if nobody's around.

Mob didn't cry nor really smile. Which everyone thought was odd, but it wasn't anything new. Saiki is the same way. But Mob wasn't bored like him to where nothing surprised him. He couldn't read minds, yet he looked emotionless. Even when Saiki knew he had emotions. Maybe he just sucked at expressing them, but he wondered why. This is one of those moments where he wished he could read Mob's mind. It would be easy to answer those questions. What Saiki did know was that nothing can elicit an emotional reaction from Mob.

Except one day, something snapped. It was a normal day at school, Saiki was always bothered by the people who called him their 'friend.' listening to people's thoughts and mostly ignoring them, not interested since it has nothing to do with him. However, an accident occured. Something so small that Saiki didn't think much of it. A classmate spilt some milk on top of Mob who was sat across from him. The drink drenched his hair and clothes, a look of surprise crossing his features. Kaidou jumped and Kuboyasu clenched his teeth trying to keep his anger down. Saiki could hear the murderous thoughts racing through his mind.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to Mob. Here, I can get you a towel, just wait here- Mob?" His expression wasn't dull like usual. Eyes downcast and his face utterly pale with dread. Saiki didn't quite understand, while having milk poured on you wasn't pleasant, why did he look scared?

"Woah buddy, you okay?" Nendo asked, resting a hand on his shoulder. Mob flinched and abruptly stood up. The chair screeched, Mob quickly excusing himself to the bathroom. Milk was still dripping from his hair and uniform, making a trail on the floor as he walked out. Saiki glanced to see his lunch suspended in the air before it slammed back down. The entire table and chairs shuddered before calming down. 'That's not good. I should check on him.' Saiki stood up too, seeing his friend's curious and concerned looks set on the classroom door.

"I'll check on him," Saiki said.

"No. We will aid you Saiki, for Mob is our friend too!" Kaidou said, with very little dramatic flare. Saiki wanted to say no. That little display by Mob there could mean his psychic powers are unstable. He knew Mod hadn't meant for his lunch to lift. 'I hope he's okay.' Saiki sighed.

"Fine."

"He can have my uniform." Nendou said as they exited the room, already starting to take it off.

"No! Keep your clothes on, idiot," Kaidou shouted. "don't get naked in the halls."

"But Mob might need it."

"Well, ask him first." Saiki ignored their little banter, going to the first place he would also go if milk got dumped on him, the bathroom.

Walking in, they find just that. Mob leaned over the sink washing his face and hair as well as he could. Saiki noticed the tremble in his hands and the heaving breaths escaping Mob. Panic, he's panicking. Why? Saiki frowned, wishing he could hear more than just static in Mob's mind. Kuboyasu walked forwards as calmly as possible. Hands hovering, asking what's wrong. Mob's hair lifted, Saiki knew this was a sign of him using his power. On what? That was soon answered as Kuboyasu was flung back into Nendo, the two stumbling and falling on top of one another. Psychic energy swirled around Mob, hair lifted and his teeth clenched and wild eyes flickering around.

"D.. don't… don't hurt it.." Mob gasped, his grip tightened on the sink, and a wave of psychic energy burst around them.

"C-calm down!" Kaidou yelped, suddenly being lifted into the air. Saiki doesn't know what to do or how to calm down the esper. He kept himself grounded and walked over, laying a hand on Mob's shoulder.

"What's wrong?" He asked, and Mob snapped his head towards him. A look of pure terror across his face, before Saiki was pushed away.

100% Panic

The walls and floor started to tear apart like puddy, Mob slowly rising in the air and pushing everything away from him. He could hear the shaky breaths and hands raised to his head to protect from nothing. Before Saiki could even attempt to calm the poor boy down his body collapsed to the floor, having passed out from the lack of oxygen. Good, it's probably for the best. He turned to his friends, who were standing at the door frozen in place. Bathroom now trashed beyond repair.

"He… passed out. Is Mob okay?" Kuboyasu asked, the first one to step forwards. Saiki was about to respond but a feeling of dread wrapped around his chest. His knees buckled slightly from the sudden pressure that overcame the room. Kaidou quickly collapsed to his knees and stared wide-eyed behind him.

"Sai-Saiki! Behind you!" He screeched, he whipped his head around to see Mob hadn't passed out. Standing up was a figure covered in harsh shadows that warped around its body, eyes pure white and empty. A figure of pure power stood in front of him, energy around it gravitating to… could this even be called Mob?

He wanted to use his psychic powers to stop Mob, to hold him still. But the three were still there, overcome by the sheer pressure of his power.

"Run!" Saiki snapped, however they didn't budge. "We can't do anything, just run!" Saiki tried again, this time they listened. Nendo grabbing Kaidou’s arm and pulling him away as Kuboyasu spared a glance to him before following. Yelling down the hall to run away from the bathroom.

Saiki faced the shadows before him, the entire room wrecked as pieces of the school started to float. The bathroom couldn't even be called one anymore, as they now stood in the open with the school slowly being torn apart. He could reverse this all, Mob just has to calm down. He stepped forwards, Mob's psychic power tried to lift him into the air but Saiki resisted. Keeping himself grounded. While he was extremely strong, Mob's immense power wasn't something to laugh at. He grabbed his arm, a spike in power surging around him to push him away. Saiki gritted his teeth, his own powers struggling to keep him in place. Mind reading and hypnosis didn't work on Mob. But now it was the only thing he could do to calm him down. Convince the figure in front of him that he's safe and not in danger like he believes.

'Mob. You're not in danger, calm down and stop tearing apart the building.' It's more so a command than reassuring, the being's eyes flickered to him as its power faltered but stayed strong. Maybe he could read his mind and find out why he's panicking. Saiki carefully took off one of his limiters, already feeling the sudden surge of power course through his veins.

He tried again, forcing himself into Mob's mind. This time, the static cleared as thoughts soon ran through his head, ones that weren't his. 'go away. You'll hurt me, won't you?' Saiki heard Mob's thoughts.

"No I won't, you’re my friend remember?" Saiki didn't want to say that, but maybe he considered Mob more than just an annoyance. Maybe he considered that of other people as well.

'Go away. Please. I'm scared.' Now it's time for hypnosis. He could invade Mob's mind, it's best to put a stop to this.

"Stop." Saiki commanded, Mob’s eyes flickered, before his entire body crumbled to the floor. Intense psychic energy leaving, a pressure now lifted off of his body. Saiki gasped, feeling like he could finally breathe again. He had no idea Mob held such power, it was almost as much as him. "Good grief." Looking at the school was a mistake. The entire place was in shambles, people in the air while others were watching in horror. Saiki lifted a hand, guess he better reverse this all.

----------

When Mob awoke, he had a vague idea of what happened. The milk spilling upon his head and rushing to the bathroom as he felt his psychic powers thrum under his skin. He didn't know what came over him, Mob thought he had gotten over what happened to him, what Mogami did. Yet, he panicked. Thinking bullies were now after him at this new school, already anxious the things that happened in those six months would happen here too. The milk splashing on him made the scale tip over. Mob rushed to the bathroom, trying to calm down. But he was already set into a blind panic. After that, it's blank. Did ??? Get out again?

Lifting himself up, he found that he's still in the bathroom, intact. He was sure before he passed out his psychic powers did tear at the walls and floor. Mob shifted his feet, seeing both were okay, not a single tear or tile out of place. What-

"Good, you're awake." Saiki's voice entered his mind, seeing the pink haired student standing in front of him. Did he do something? Mob’s pulse quickened, did he… hurt someone? "Don't worry, I turned back time on the entire school and everyone in it. No one remembers your psychic explosion." So he did become ???. A wash of shame overcame him, once again Mob destroyed a school because his emotions overwhelmed him. Nothing changed, Mob hadn't changed. After everything, he still couldn't control his own powers. Saiki could see his disappointment, letting out a sigh and stepping forwards. "You can't control your powers, right?"

"Yeah." Mob muttered, keeping his eyes cast down, holding his shame so he didn't explode again. If he looked at Saiki, at his most likely disappointed face…

Progress towards Mob's explosion: 65%

"Me too." He raised his head, not seeing disappointment, but instead understanding. Saiki also had the same problem? Then how did he not explode, what did he do to stop it? Mob didn't feel so alone at those simple two words, that he too didn't have much control over his intense power. "These hairpins actually suppress my power. I've also had incidents where my power destroys something. Hurts someone." He's the same? But Saiki was never afraid to use his power like Mob. He practically used them all the time. So how did he not fear hurting someone? "I too fear that I'll hurt someone. Mob, it's okay to have accidents as long as you fix them. Anytime my powers go haywire I fix the damage with the same power. You don't need to be scared of it."

"But what if I can't fix it?"

"Then you try your best, and make it up to the people you hurt. I understand it's hard, having so much power is more of a burden than a blessing. But pitying yourself won't make anything better." Mob already knew what he was going to say, having lived by the same code. The shame within him eased.

Progress Towards Mob's Explosion: 20%

"I should use them for good not bad, right?" Saiki nodded. "I know. Master told me so. I just wish my powers wouldn't hurt others."

While Mob still felt remorse for destroying the school and having Saiki pick up after him, a new thought was placed in his head. If he was to destroy something by accident, instead of feeling sorry for himself and perhaps exploding again, he'll help fix it. Not that he hasn't already done that before. But he never really thought about it that way, thinking he couldn't fix something destroyed. And maybe he couldn't fix a destroyed person, but an injury can heal and a building can repair. Accidents happen.

"I know, me too."

That's the end. This story is simply a repost from AO3 that I decided to put on Wattpad too. Since I enjoy making the covers, they're fun.

Hope you liked it, even if it's different from all the other stories I've written. I might post some of my other AO3 stories here, and if you want to read more of my stories, I'm under the same username (:
