"Doctor, I have a question."
Park Jimin set down the book which he had his nose buried in too deep. It was late in the evening after dinner that Yoongi decided to speak up for the first time that day. He had been awfully quiet that the doctor was concerned about leaving him alone which was why he joined him in watching the news segment of the late evening.
"What would that be?"
The two were sitting on opposing sides of the sofa, but not for long. Yoongi moved so that he was close. He returned to his usual posture of have his legs crossed, but this time his back was not straight and his head was not looking forward. He had his head tilted so that his eyes were comfortable in looking at the many words printed on a paper.
"What are you reading?"
Jimin was half way through the novel now and it was the first time Yoongi had taken interest to it. He wanted to question him, but felt he needed not to do that then. Instead he put his thumb on the page he was on and showed Yoongi the cover. It was gray with two arms on it. One arm reached up while the other clawed onto it as if to try to crawl up it. The title was plastered in larger bold black letters that could not be missed from afar. At the bottom right corner was the name of the author.
"It's the first of three." Jimin told Yoongi. "It's about a boy who comes from a family of three others, his religious mother, strict father, and stubborn bother. One day he goes out to run an errand for his mother when he comes across a man who he ends up falling for."
"So it's a romance?"
Jimin shook his head. "Not exactly, or at least I wouldn't call it that. He doesn't actually fall for him at first sight. He's first scared of him and all his friends because he caught them injuring a man. He's naive and doesn't realize that he slowly starts becoming fond of this man whose much older than him."
Yoongi stopped Jimin from speaking with a hum. He put his finger on the cover of the novel and traced the outline of the arm with it. He pointed to the title and asked if that's what it was all about to which the doctor said no. It was not his first time reading the book so he knew that it did not revolve around that single concept.
"So this boy, what's he like?"Yoongi asked, now looking to Jimin instead of the book.
"Well he's young, seventeen. He's sweet, caring, school smart, clueless, and a bit dumb. He falls easily for things and does not recognize that what he's doing is out of the ordinary because his normalcy is boring. He finds excitement in the friendships he builds with five other male characters, and other people he meets along the way. Slowly he changes, but that's left more to be seen in the third book than this one."
"What about him and the guy that's much older?"
"What about them?"
"Why does he like him?"
Jimin sighed as he thought back to trilogy as a whole. He understood why even if at time it was really questionable why the main character had chosen to fall for such a difficult person. He struggled to put it into words for Yoongi.
"Well he falls for him because he's sweet to him. At first I understand why, he's treats him so nicely that anyone would fall for him, but that's the thing. People have and he's let down so many like a toddler does with toys. Yet with this boy he's loving even if he's so different to anyone he's ever been with. And this clueless boy has never experienced anything like this man so maybe that's why he likes him to begin with."
Yoongi took the book from Jimin's hands and put his thumb where he had left off reading. He flipped through the pages and read little sections. He stopped mainly at the ones that were dialogue or description of the main character's love interest. Their relationship was as Jimin described it, but the elder's actions with the boy seemed unfitting for who he described to be like.
"So this naive boy who is also smart fell for this rebel because he saw something in him, right? I mean there are three books so he must know him well. Does he stay with him?"
Jimin nodded his head. "Yes, he does."
"So one can love another who is difficult?"
The doctor stopped to think about it. He had never been put in such situation, so he had not personal romantic experience to use as to justify an answer. Instead, he shrugged his arms and told Yoongi what he assumed would be the best of the responds he could give.
"You can't really decide who you fall for, but you can who you decided if you want to stay fallen. So maybe, Yoongi. Just maybe."
The book was put back into Jimin's hands. He had expected that to be the end of their conversation for he was not stopped from returning to his reading. However, just as he finished the chapter his attention went back to Yoongi. The mad man was still sitting close, also reading along. Jimin asked if he wished for him to start all over to which he said not today. Instead they finished the next chapter together then sat in silence. It was not uncomfortable nor was it troubling. The peace was kept even when movements were made. Yoongi had enough stillness that he decided to stretch the muscles on his face than those anywhere else and Jimin did not oppose to it.
The doctor let himself be kissed and have a hand on his cheek as he was touch like he was a delicate artifact. Though they had shared such gesture before, never had it been like this. There was softness to it all and emotions to be paid attention to. They were in no rush to speed things up nor were they looking for anything more than the kiss that was filled with too much sweetness to be between them. Jimin knew what was occurring during the time it was happening, yet he wanted not to be moved away from the warmth on his face or the hand on his back. He was loving the way he being treated. He loved that he too wanted to kiss back without worrying or wanting to saying anything that might disrupt the tingly feeling exploding about his body.
It was wrong yet feeling so right.
