Chapter 2.4

When we arrived at school. The accident happened.
One of the student, trying to jump from the school rooftop.
She is one of the student who joined Hyaku Monogatari, Erika Nakagawa, first years student from the track team.

According to Sakuya and Kiyoharu, the girl suddenly screams in the middle of the class. And then left the class to go to the rooftop. When Kiyoharu and Sakuya trying to do an exorcism, at first Kaname-sensei stop them. But, Kiyoharu ignores him and keep doing an exorcism and save the girl.

Kiyoharu gives all the student charms to protect themselves, but once again Kaname-sensei is against it. But, because the student really scared, they just took the charm with them.
As for Kaname-sensei, he doesn't take the charm.

So, I ask the principal to prepare a room for us to talk only with Kaname-sensei. We avoided enveloping with the student because it's maybe dangerous. But, some of the student, Asahi Sato-san, and Sawada Noriko-san ask to join with us. They said that they want to know the truth. Because they are protected by a charm, we let them join.

Kaname-sensei sat right in front of me looked at me with a sharp look.

I sighed, smiled, "Kaname-sensei, do you aware that this school builds on ancient Ansei cemetery ruin?"

"Yes, of course. Why do you ask?" Kaname-sensei looked at me in a weird way. He smiled and looks calm while his eyes looked angry. It's creepy.

I'm just trying to stay calm. Kiyoharu and Sakuya stand behind me. They record the investigation.

"The supernatural phenomena begin to happen in this school when summer break over, more precisely since they student playing Hyaku Monogatari when they joined summer camp in the school. After that, the supernatural phenomena continue happened to this school and only the student who joined the game that experiences it, right, Kaname-sensei?" I asked and keep my focus on him.

"That's what I heard from the student," he just smiled and stared at me.

"I heard from Asahi Sato-san, you are the one who gives them permission to playing that game?" I asked again, smile back to him.

His easy-going attitude doesn't look normal, "I just saying that is better than wander around the school," he smiled.

I thought about it for a moment about his attitudes, "I heard from some of the students that join the game, they hear the ghost story from you. They say you always telling a ghost story in the rooftop when lunch time. Why ghost story?" I asked again.

He sighed, "Well...it's just a hobby of mine. I like ghost story. Don't you think it's that really interesting? You are parapsychology, right?" he still smiled while leaning his body on the chair.

I could hear Yui and Ayako whispering. They must have talked about Kaname-sensei's unusual behavior. Could he have a mental disorder? But, he is a teacher. You can't be a teacher if you have a psychiatric history. Could it be that he never checked it out?

"Sensei, don't you know that is really dangerous to playing Hyaku Monogatari if you don't have experience?" I looked at him seriously.

He laughed, "Why telling each other ghost story can be cursed? Maybe the student just making up the story,"

"We are not making up story! Sensei, it's all your fault! Because of you, our school can't join the winter tournament! You only come to this school last year, do you even know, how the student works hard to the competition!!" Asahi Sato-san is the one that speaks against Kaname-sensei.

He was shouted as if removing all his stress. He and the students must have felt strong pressure since entering school after the summer holidays. I can understand that. But, Yui stopped Sato-san. She shook her head while smile at him.

I took a deep breath and looked back at Kaname-sensei. He didn't seem to react to Sato-san's actions, "Sensei, when playing Hyaku Monogatari, there a rule that you shouldn't do. First, you shouldn't lie about your story, second, you shouldn't play in the cemetery area. Don't you know that?" I asked.

"How could I know that," His smile more and more gives me a creepy feeling.

"Even it's just a game, I don't think that a teacher will suggest the student to playing supernatural games. Are doing that on purpose?" I trying to push him more.

"Have you accused me?" He lifts his face and stares at me. His eyes become red. And his breathing hard.

"Sensei, could you see the spirit?" I asked carefully.

The room is silent for a second. Everyone likes just trying to stop breathing while waiting for Kaname-sensei answer.

"Yes. Of course, I can see them," When I look at Kaname-sensei, this time, he looks like he's really tired, his eyes don't focus on me and he just keeps looking down, "Since I was a kid, I really can see them! But, no one believes in me. Even my family never believed me," he laughed, "I'm just trying to prove that the ghost exists. If the game is successful, calling a spirit, everyone will believe that, right? Well, for me it's just to fun to see them making the scared expression," he chuckled.

"Don't you know that calling out the spirit of curiosity it's really dangerous? The student maybe ended being possessed, in another case, they maybe died, " I glared at him.

He smiled at me and then laughed, "If someone really dead, doesn't it proved that the ghost really exist?"

Suddenly, Sato-san running towards Kaname-sensei and punch him hard on the face till he falls in the ground. Kiyoharu takes Sato-san back and warned him to not do anything right now. But, Kaname-sensei only laughing hard.

"What makes you so angry? You don't believe in ghost, don't you?" Kaname-sensei laughed, he really enjoyed himself.

Normally, you can't just laugh. Maybe because he used too much spiritual energy, he lost himself? He has no feeling for human beings anymore.

"I heard from the orphanage that you grew up, you are only making up a story about your ability to see a ghost," I asked again.

He smiled, "Really?" Kaname-sensei stands up with anger in his face.

Suddenly a chair moves by itself. The chair floated, then crashed hard towards me.

"Rui-kun!!" Yui screaming.

There is a strong wind coming around me. And a shadow that sped up quickly stand in front of me. The chair then falls to the ground before reaching me. The shadow protecting me.

Everyone stay still. Keep silence for a moment. Trying to understand what really happened. Kaname-sensei make the chair moved? Is he can cause poltergeist?

"I ALREADY TOLD YOU THAT I CAN SEE THE SPIRIT!" Kaname-sensei suddenly shout out hard. Suddenly the aura around Kaname-sensei became dead. The piercing cold air filled the room and fog began to appear. The objects around us move on their own. We looked at Kaname-sensei who was standing tall. He smiled with the veins on his face.

"He is possessed. Be careful, "Kiyoharu said while took a white paper from his pocket.

He stands in front of Yui and the students, while Sakuya stands in front of me with the big shadow that help me before. His guardian spirit?

"WHY YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME!" hE shouted out, "WHY NO ONE NOTICE ME!! WHY! STOP MESSING AROUND WITH ME!" Kaname-sensei keep shout outs.

The chairs and tables move crazy.  We stepped back away from Kaname-sensei.  The look on his face is getting red and frightening.  The veins look extracted on the skin on his face, it can be seen busting at any time.

"Look like we need to perform an exorcism to Kaname-sensei, he's being possessed," I said nervously and looked at Kiyoharu and Sakuya.  They are the one who can do the exorcism of the spirit.

They both nodded. Sakuya and Kiyoharu then stand in the front and back. While Kiyoharu performs an exorcism, Sakuya stops Kaname-sensei movement.

Kiyoharu starts with chanting mantras towards Kaname-sensei. Kaname-sensei suddenly gasped. His face shocked. He stares at us with scary red eyes. He's unable to move and unable to speak.

There was a black aura coming out of his entire body. Deep black aura. Kiyoharu then took a small object like crystal marbles from his pocket and threw it towards Kaname-sensei. The small object broke and water sprayed towards Kaname-sensei.

He shouted in pain. His body gave off smoke as if it was burned by something. The black shadow slowly faded along with the chanting. The air around the room starts to change. It feels light.

After a minute, Kaname-sensei collapse in the ground, unconscious.

"He will conscious soon. Sato-san and Kiyoharu-Kun, please move Kaname-sensei to the infirmary. We talk with him after we finished here," I say it with a sigh of relief.

"Has the exorcism been successful?" Sawada-San asked nervously.

Yui looked at her while taking a breath, then smiled, "We have managed to bring out an evil aura from Kaname-sensei, but the spirit still roams in this school.  That's why, Rui will help them find a way out,"

After they left, we begin to prepare another exorcism for the spirit that wandering around this school. Our goal to make the spirit find their way.

Although this school is part of the cemetery area, Rui will try to purify this school.  Spirits can't get out of the area where they are trapped, but with the help of the medium, they can escape the bond.

One of the students, Sawada Noriko-san ask to stay with us. She is the student who doesn't believe in the ghost story that Kaname-sensei tells. She said, in her grandmother hometown, she once saw the Shinto priest doing an exorcism.

"How Maruyama-san will doing that?" Sawada Noriko-san asked while looking at Rui who sat and prepared to do the ritual.

"Uhm...there are two main types of psychic medium. First is Mental mediums who communicate with spirits through their minds. They may hear words, feel emotions, or come to know things telepathically, " Yui explained.

Yui took a small breath and smiled, then continues, "The second one is Physical mediums, they can make spiritual energy manifest in the real world. The spirit may be heard, felt, or even seen by everyone in the room, not just the medium. Through them, a paranormal event occurs in the physical world. Rui-kun can't see a spirit clearly, so he will doing that through telepathy,"

Noriko-san looks surprised, "Maruyama-san, can't see the spirit even when he's medium?"

Yui nodded, "When mediums reach out to the spirit world, they usually can receive information through one or a combination of these senses. Clairvoyance for clear seeing, Clairsentience for clear feeling, Clairaudience for clear hearing, and Claircognizance for clear knowing," Yui explained.

"Five sense, right?" Noriko-san said. She looked very enthusiastic.

"Yes. For example, some may be able to use clairaudience to hear a voice, while others have the ability to see the deceased person through clairvoyance. Rui-kun can't see them, but he could feel the spirit, hearing them and knowing where they are," Yui explained.

"There a lot of ability to become a psychic medium, right? Maruyama-san must learn a lot," Noriko-san said, keep focus to Rui.

"Well, the ability to communicate with the dead is a true skill that requires practice and knowledge. But, you can't train to become one, it's a gift that you're born with and develop over time," Yui smiled.

She looked at Yui while breathe slowly, "It's that so. I actually really impressed after I saw the ritual at my grandmother house. So, I learn a little bit about psychic ability. Are Maruyama-san will communicate with trance?" She asked.

"Since Rui-kun is a telepath, they doing through channelling," Yui said, "You know much as well, Sawada-San?"

Sawada-san look shy, "Just a little bit. What is different?" She asked curiously.

Yui think about a minute. She tried to explain a way that is easy to understand for Sawada-San, "Let's see, when a psychic enters a trance, they allow their body to become a vessel for the spirit. Physical mediums must enter a deep trance, and some may even come out of it without any memory of what happened," Yui explained.

"Yes, you're right. I saw a lot in the movie and television program," she nodded.

"Yes. But in the case of Channeling, Mental mediums can enter a very light form of a trance called channelling to contact with the spirit. But, they are fully aware of what's going on and don't lose their memories," Yui smiled.

"Oh, it's more powerful than a trance," Sawada-san suprised, "So, Maruyama-san will call out the spirit, hearing them, and help them to rest in peace? But, can he persuaded them?" She asked looked seriously to Rui.

"We believe that spirit can absorb the feeling around them easily. That's why is more easy to persuade them. For example, do you ever hearing about the ancestors cursed? But, do you really thinking that your grandparents will put cursed on their grandchildren?" Yui said.

"Oh, you right. It's because they absorb so many feeling?" Sawada-san asked.

"Yes. When they are floating around for too long. We believe that the human spirit contains plus and minus particles. The spirit that floating around for too long, maybe lost the plus particle and let them contain only minus particle. That's why, to help the plus particle back to them, we need to convey their plus feeling and help them to found the light. When the light back to them,  they can walk through it," Yui took a deep breath and smiled.

"I see. So, rather than get rid of them. Maruyama-san will first try to convey them," Sawada-san seems relief.

Yui nodded, "Yes. There a lot of spirits that may be floating around here after heard the ghost story the student telling each other, especially because this school is cemetery area a long time ago," Yui said.

"Can Maruyama-san convey all of them?" She asked nervously.

"Yes. Rui-kun using telepathy to calling them, wherever they are, if they are close, they can hear him through telepathy. When Rui reach the channelling state, he will try to convey all of them once," Yui explained.

"Maruyama-san is really amazing. Uhm...how about Morimachi-san? Are you a psychic medium too?" She asked, looked at Yui with curiosity.

"Uhm... I can't see the spirit or talking to them or even doing an exorcism, so no, I'm just an investigator," Yui laughed.

"Ehh?!" Noriko-san looked at Yui, a bit confused.

Let's begin!
