Empire v Independence
(Northwest POV 1914)
I sighed flipping over the fifth pancake. I was so tired today and got barely any sleep last night. I just need to be able to have some beauty rest-
"CANNON BALL!" A young girl yells. I snap to the window to see Alberta sitting in a bush. She brushed herself off and gave a thumbs up.
"Did she... jump off the roof?" I asked taking glances between the window and Manitoba.
"Yeah, did she give a thumbs up?"
"I mean yeah but she still jumped off your roof!"
Manitoba got up from his seat and took the tea in his hand and placed it down as he began to brew another pot. "Then she's fine, don't worry North this is just how young teens take out their extra energy in the morning. We were just like her when we were younger. Right Vicky?"
British Columbia or 'Vicky' nodded taking another cup of tea. Another fall came from the roof as someone else jumped off and yelped hitting the bush.
I felt a wosh of air enter the house as the door slammed open and a teen girl entered around the same age as BC and Mani. "NORTH! Can I go to Alaska's house? He wants to teach me sword fighting! How cool is that!"
I blinked in shook. "He?"
Yukon looked at me. "Yeah. Alaska? The American-Russian territory. Haven't you met him already?"
I shook my head. "Yes I have but I do not like the idea of you at some American's house. And please sword fighting is much to dangerous!" I also didn't like the idea she was at a boy's house.
She stomped her feet. "What! Can a girl not do dangerous things? I thought you weren't like the Dominion."
"No Yuki, It had nothing to do with-"
"ARGH! YOU NEVER LET ME DO ANYTHING!" Yukon yelled before running to her room.
I looked around questionably. I gazed over at British Columbia and Manitoba who seemed to be very close to bursting into laughter. I looked to them with a pissed off face and they shrugged and turned to talk about something about Europe and the easterners.
The door slammed open again but instead the new provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan covered head to toe in searches and bush. They seemed to be having a great time yelling about some foods and cities. "MANI VICKY NORTH! Guess what we just did!"
"Something illegal?" Manitoba chuckled as Alberta stood in silence. "Oh did you actually do something illegal-"
"Shush! Listen!" She yelled using her finger to shush us. I rolled my eyes, today was going to give me a headache.
//(Nova Scotia's POV)//
"Nope, no way!" Ontario paced around the province house in a angry spurt. I had just finished tying my tie as Brunsy (My twin Sister) came out of her room in a nice looking dress. The house was cold and quiet ever since the westerners moved out as soon as the new provinces turned 14. Honestly I hoped I'd move out with my sister as soon as possible.
"C'mon Rio, you'll uh what's the word..."
"Survive?" My sister asked.
"Yeah survive. I mean they're just the rude, uncultured savages! Savages with no respect for real government and culture. JUST A BUNCH OF STUPID ENGLISHMEN!" Quebec began to yell shaking Ontario. They seemed to highly hate the idea of going to the westerners' houses. Especially Manitoba's for obvious reasons.
"They aren't that bad, I mean they're our official siblings. We have to like them someway?" Brunsy smiled trying to comfort Ontario, placing a hand on his shoulder. He slapped it away and gave her a look of disgust. She stepped away and behind me.
"Don't touch her."
He ignored me and kept walking. "At least all that we have to do is force them to come along with us, as father wishes. Since we'll have the dominion himself helping us get them we'll be fine."
"They won't just come along without some resistance. They don't like us very much, you know they don't even trust or like Canada himself after the whole red river thing. BC has barely met us and we have been dividing Northwest's land but by bit. The only one who might not get angry is Yukon but she is hanging out with a American state, she'll know a thing or two about disobedience." I say trying to reason with them. I hated the idea of what we were doing and somewhat didn't feel like looping the rest of the provinces in.
Quebec gave me a look as he lit a smoke. "Well, we don't really have a choice do we?"
"No. You sadly don't." I looked to the right as a tall more distant man came into view, army boots clattering across the hard wooden floors. "We don't have much time the boat is arriving in a few days. Let's grab your brothers before Britain throws me into another conflict, m'kay?"
//(Northwest's POV)//
I finally dished out the pancakes to my siblings a the house began to die down. Everyone was sitting around the table chatting about whatever and whoever but a common topic came up.
What we were going to do after leaving the province house.
It's not like we were leaving Canada or anything we just kinda wanting to leave our overbearing siblings. Living with them was hard at best and really stressful at worst. Once the twins had done proper province training we left before Manitoba actually beat up Ontario.
"Don't even get me started on that Quebec guy. He's so annoying and angry, way too religious for my liking." British Columbia said grabbing a pancake.
"He's nothing compared to that push up nobody Ontario. He thinks he runs the show- Canada's just doing the real stuff. When I see that jerk next I swear-" Alberta nudged Manitoba and he sighed and stopped his speech.
"I mean... they aren't that bad. They're just our siblings, we have to like them some way."
Yukon said with a smile. The western provinces glared at her. "What?"
"And those annoying twins. Always yammering on about something stupid. That blue one ticks me off the most, how unladylike she is. Maybe it'd be better if Buffalo just took over." Ontario went on.
"Who's Buffalo?" Prince Edward Island asked as she folding her clothes away.
Ontario looked as if he gave something important away before continuing on. "And Manitoba- OH WHEN I SEE THAT SAVAGE LITTLE BASTA-"
I kicked his leg a looked him dead in the eye.
Quebec was next on the sibling bashing train. "I've never liked that Northwest Territories, he's either a bitter useless nobody or a Yes man. Can't he just choose one?! Oh and that British Columbia, she's never here. She just somewhat exists and that's that."
I rolled my eyes as we began into our carriages. I loaded Brunsy's, Princy's and my suitcases into the back as I helped my sisters into the carriage. Once we entered I glued my eyes to the window, New Brunswick sensing I was nervous held my hand gently. "Don't worry Nova, we'll try and makes this as fast as possible."
"Yeah right."
"YEAH RIGHT! I think those Atlantics are nothing more then to push us out. Honestly they're just a bunch of yes-men and grumbling fishing men." Saskatchewan rolled her eyes as Alberta stared at her.
"No! They're our siblings. Our oblivious, selfish, siblings." Alberta said, for her more fighting and exciting tone today she was quite lenient on supporting our siblings.
"Official siblings. I don't even know who our mother is, that's if we even share a mother." Saskatchewan countered. Alberta shook here head and stuck out her tongue.
"I know our mother and she was the best person in the world." Alberta said, everyone including me looked to her in shock. "She had long pretty hair and was really happy and had the prettiest smile EVER! Remember she hugged us before she crumbled to dust?" She asked her twin. She stared back.
"That was a dream."
Alberta shook her head. "No! I forget her name.. I don't think she had a flag or anything but she was going to! She looked like BC if BC was pretty, sweet and had a boyfriend and straight hair.
BC looked in shock and reddened up.
KNOCK KNOCK
"I'll get it." I sighed gripping the doorhandle. Once I opened it I gulped and backed away. "You... you aren't supposed to be here."
"Due to my position in the empire, I am. Now let me speak to your other brothers as well."
The Dominion walked through into the kitchen, he almost bumped into the light fixture multiple times which I had to bite down my tongue to not giggle. Dad sat down on a seat in between Manitoba and British Columbia. They exchanged angry looks.
Me and my sisters walked in soon after giving a pitiful wave which wasn't received with a smile. I squeezed Brunsy's hand and we went to lean by Northwest even though he gave a look that clearly showed he didn't really want us here.
Ontario and Quebec entered next, Ontario with a slight bow and Quebec with a cigarette in the trash. Ontario and Manitoba exchanged glares dangerous enough to break diamonds. The two easterners sat down in the empty seats opposite to Canada.
"I think we should get to the chase since clearly you two want to strangle eachother." Our dad looked to the two fire eyed boys. "As much as I'm upset to say so, we are at war with German Empire and his wife and some other people- I wasn't particularly paying attention when my father was talking." Canada stumbled in his bag and placed down a few papers.
The words on the pages reestablished my fears, we were going to war in Europe. I had never really seen much war where I live. I know Ontario and Quebec had to deal with some states and Manitoba and Saskatchewan did some rebellion thing.
"I volunteer to fight." Ontario immediately said raising his hand.
Canada looked at him with a slight glare before continuing. "Now it is important that we both protect our ports and help overseas. My plan is to have British Columbia and Alberta watch the pacific and New Brunswick with Nova Scotia to watch the Atlantic, especially the city of Halifax. If you wish Nova Scotia you will also be able to participate in fighting in the Atlantic to secure Britain's food supply and our trade network."
I nodded. "Of course I'm willing to help the cause."
He looked to me a bit solemn. "Yeah, just don't die. I don't need another Rupert situation." He mumbled under his breath. "Now for the rest of you boys the plan is simple as part of the armed forces to protect the crown lands in Europe and her allies."
Manitoba sat up immediately. "What?! You barge into my house and expect me to do some stupid war game!"
"Yeah! I'm the nation of Québécois, why should I be forced into a war over a monarch I could care less about." Quebec joined in. The two brothers gave surprising looks of respect.
Canada on the other hand just looked like he had a headache. "Look I could honestly care less about this whole war thing and I'm trying to get my independence at the moment. This will be a quick fight till Christmas then we can head home and I can get that tea sucking bi- I mean my father to give me independence. Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Quebec and British Columbia I expect you at the province house at the earliest for your military training. If you don't arrive-" his gaze turned into a a look sharp enough to cut steel. "I'll get you myself."

This was the longer chapter I've ever wrote for this book and damn did it cram a lot random things in for this ark so if I made any important mistakes I'm sorry.
I have also decided to make the book more connected between its one-shots by adding little arks like the provinces telling those stories before. This ark is about the divide between East and West provinces after the red river rebellion and onward. East and West have a similar dynamic to south and west states down in the freedom eagle lands (except you know the slavery, civil war and black equality thing. Canada has been pretty racist a lot of times but from my limited knowledge on history it was a more universal thing between both east and west)
So uh, see you all next chapter.
