Mission 33
We played for hours winning a few stuffed animals. I didn't like them as much as the bat Porter gave me, so I gave them to a little girl who was crying because she lost, and she had used all her tickets. By now, we were tired of the games. "Let's just walk around." Ian nodded. The sun was just starting to set, when Ian said, "IV, I'm gonna go get snacks. I'll be back." "Thanks III." Ian jogged off around the corner, and I sat down on a bench. Ian walked back with an enormous puff of pink cotton candy. "I don't really like sweets." "Oh..." Ian looked forlorn. Well, more forlorn than usual. "Well maybe I'll like it. I've never had cotton candy." Ian handed it to me, and I tore off a piece, putting it into my mouth. "Mmmm!" I lied as the sugary cloud melted in my mouth. "Delicious!" Ian smiled sadly. We walked a bit more, and I noticed Ian staring up at something. I looked up to see a small ferris wheel. "Do you want to ride that?" Ian hesitated before shaking his head. "If you want to ride it, let's ride it." I said, dragging him towards the short line. The ride attendant opened the gate to a yellow cage, and instructed us to sit inside. As the rickety cage rose higher and higher, I looked out at the pink and orange sky. "It is good to appreciate things like the sky, after pretending not to be broken in that place for so long." Ian said. "Mmmm. Maybe." I replied thoughtfully, as a pink stained cloud floated across the sky. "Have you learned it yet?" "What?" "To appreciate beauty. " "Maybe." "You would know if you had." "That's probably true." "Do you get a feeling when you look at a gorgeous sunset like this?" "It is the earth turning on its axes, the same as always." "No then. I can't wait to see what your like when you can appreciate beauty." I turned to look Ian in the eyes. "What does that mean?" "Nothing." "III..." "it's not important." "It is bothering me." "Well you've learned curiosity at least!" Ian grinned. To see someone usually so melancholy smile... I couldn't help but smile back. The gate opened. "Alright lovebirds. Time to get out." As we left the ride I whispered, "What does that mean?" Into Ian's ear. Ian, back to his usual self, laughed sadly. "It doesn't mean anything IV. It was just a stupid joke." I smiled "Okay then."
