Mission 32
When we finally landed, my legs were aching for a run. "I need to stretch my legs. I'm going for a run. I'll meet you at the hotel." "I'd like to join you." said Liv. "Me too." Said Ian. Josh had seemed uninterested before, but now says, "Then I'm coming too." "I'd rather run alone." "But we want to come." Liv whined jokingly. I sighed. "Never mind." "Ah come on. You have to like hanging out with us. We're a team." Josh said. I didn't respond. Emil was busy typing the hotel into his tablet's GPS. "It's just around the corner." He said. "The hotel?" Polly asked. "I was thinking after we checked into the hotel, we could go sightsee in Paris?" Josh suggested. "Ooooh! Paris! The city of love!" Polly exclaimed excitedly. "Maybe you and Ivy'll finally get together." Liv suggested teasingly, elbowing Josh in the side. Josh laughed. "I'm more worried about you. You're almost seventeen, and you've never had a boyfriend." "Prolly gonna meet some amazing French guy I'll never see again." Liv muttered under her breath. We entered the large rotating glass doors of the gorgeous vaulted ceilinged hotel. The desk attendant smiled. "Salut! Puis-je vous aider?" "Um, we don't speak French." Lib said. "Pouvons-nous s'il vous plaît avoir une chambre ?" I asked. "What?" Polly asked. "It's French for can we have a room." I replied. "Je suis désolé. Nous ne fournissons pas de chambres aux mineurs ." "What does that mean?" Josh asked. "It means they don't provide rooms to minors." "Cette jeune fille blonde vient d'avoir dix-huit ans. Cece est son voyage d'anniversaire." Ian replied to the lady, pointing at Liv. "Ah d'accord. Voici la clé de votre chambre. Happy birthday. 18 is a special one." The lady said, smiling at Liv, and handing Ian a key. "What-" I grabbed Liv's hand, hard. "Let's go to our room. The sooner we get there, the faster we can get to France." I said, dragging her to the elevator. After a few minutes we reached our floor, and the door slid open. Ian swiped the keycard in our room door, and I slid my bag across the floor, sending it into the center of the TV room. Everyone followed my example, and tossed out bags into the room. "Let's go then." Josh said. We turned back for the elevator. As we packed ourselves into the small space, I felt someone slip something into my back pocket. Once we got to the front, Liv said, "Let's take a cab to the Eiffel Tower." "We'll need two." Emil replied. "Girls and boys?" Polly asked. "Sure." Answered Liv. We walked over to the crowded taxi station on the corner. After about twenty minutes, it was our turn Polly, Liv and I took the first one. Once we were comfortably strapped in, and Liv had told the taxi driver where to go, I reached into my back pocket and pulled out a ragged scrap of paper. It said; Meet me next to the nearest bathroom at 5:30. We need to talk. The note wasn't signed. I glanced at Polly's over her shoulder. 3:48. I returned the note to my pocket. "So... Did you figure out who you like?" Liv asked. "No." "That's too bad." I grunted. The taxi slowed to a halt. "Here's your stop, ladies." Liv paid the taxi driver, and he drove off. Shortly afterwards, the boys arrived. I glanced at Liv's watch. 5:00. A pretty brunette with glossy pink lips was walking near us. "Bonjour mademoiselle." Josh said in what I guessed was supposed to be a flirtatious voice, glancing at me. "Zut! Rude américaines!" The girl muttered under her breath, and walking faster until she was farther away from us. "What?" Josh asked. "It's rude to call a stranger mademoiselle. You say madame." I replied laughing. "Josh scowled. "Wow. It's gorgeous. Even from here." Liv said, looking up at the Eiffel Tower. "Pretty!" Polly cried. I didn't understand the appeal. Apparently, neither did Emil. "My tablet says there's a fair walking distance from here. "Yay!" Polly cried. We walked over to the fair, and when we got there, it was about 5:28. "I need to find a bathroom." Emil bought us each fifty tickets and we entered the fair." I walked off toward the nearest group of porta-potties, and stood in the shadows next to one. After a few minutes, Josh joined me. "Hey." "Hello." "I'll get straight to the point, 'cause I know that's the way you like things... Do you wanna go on a date sometime?" For a while I said nothing. Finally, I said, "No." "Ouch!" Josh laughed pretending to be cool with it. He started to head back. "I guess that's that then." "Don't you want to hear the reason? It has nothing to do with you." "It has everything to do with me." "I said no, because, where I come from there is no nothing worth loving. I don't know what love even means. I don't want to mess up our relationship, by trying something now, when it can't work out, where if we tried later, when I am not as oblivious to the world, we might have something great, but not have that chance." "..." "Josh?" "...Alright then. I'll be asking again, if that's the case. I'm not gonna give up." I smiled. "Thank you for understanding." We walked back to the group. Emil passed out the tickets. "Kay, let's meet here at ten. Don't be by yourselves." Liv said. "I wanna go on the carousel!" Polly cried, pointing. "I'll go with you." Josh offered. The two split from the group. "Josh wait up. Emil and Polly should be together since Emil is little. Let's go ride that!" Liv said pointing at an enormous red ride titled; Speed Demon. They ran off towards the terrifying structure. I looked at Ian. "I guess we're together then, III." "Where d' you wanna go, IIII?" "I don't know." "You don't like rides, so let's just play the little games." "Okay."
