Mission 22

We ended up sharing a room, and Liv and Emil would have to share the bed while Polly and I slept on the pull out couch, and Josh slept sitting up in the arm chair. I looked around the room. "What do we do here?" "We sleep. We don't really spend any time here." Liv explained.

"Oh." I walked into the one tiny bathroom, and struggled to change in the limited space. I exited the bathroom, and Polly looked at me funny. "You're not gonna shower?" "It's night. I shower in the morning." I lied. I guessed I would have to start showering to hold up appearances. I didn't shower, because I did not sweat and my body was self cleaning.

Soap was smelly, and babies and dogs were sensitive. I had an absolutely neutral smell.  "Oh.  Okay."  Polly stepped into the bathroom, and I heard the water start.  I walked out into the cramped living room, and rooted through my suitcase looking for my puzzle.  "Dang it.  I forgot my puzzle."  "At home?" Josh asked, hopefully, but knowing the answer.

"No.  On the plane.  I fell asleep.  I have another one at home though, so it's okay."  I zipped up my bag and sat awkwardly down on the couch.  We were silent for a minute, but then Olivia said, "Who wants hot chocolate then?  It's pretty cold outside here."

"What's hot chocolate?"  Josh gasped, and Emil actually looked up from his book in surprise.  "That's probably about the saddest thing I've ever heard."  Liv replied.  She pulled a pack of Jumbo marshmallows from Josh's bag.  "Hey!  Those are my breakfast tomorrow!"

"You can't have that for breakfast.  Ivy needs to try this!"  Liv said.  They began to play tug of war with the fragile bag of marshmallows.  I exchanged a glance with Emil over the top of his book, and then I said, "You're going to rip that, and those will all fly behind the couch, and we won't be able to use them for either thing."   They froze.

"Josh, you can't have marshmallows for breakfast.  It's way too much sugar.  That's unhealthy."  Emil said.  "We're kids.  We shouldn't worry about "unhealthy"."  "Do you know what that would do to your insulin levels-". "I don't need a science lesson!  I won't eat it!  We can put it in the hot chocolate!"

Emil rolled his eyes, and went back to reading his book. Liv opened the hotel fridge, and pulled out a carton of milk. She poured it into a pot, and let it simmer while she opened ten packets of hot chocolate powder and poured it in. She passed out five steaming mugs of hot chocolate, Polly exiting the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her head, exclaiming, "Yum!"

Liv was passing out marshmallows, when I got a warning for food poisoning. Everyone started to drink the hot chocolate as I looked at the carton. "This milk expired two years ago. Did you mean to do that?" They all spit out their mouthfuls of hot chocolate in perfect unison.

"Ewww! Olivia! You didn't think to check the carton?!" Polly shrieked. "No! I thought the hotel would have provided fresh milk!" Liv yelled. "You didn't touch yours Emil?" Josh asked, changing the subject. "Hotels don't provide milk." "Why didn't you say anything?!" Liv cried, redirecting the blame. "Yeah!" Polly cried. "Because.  I thought that someone would be smart enough to check the expiration date."
