Mission 13

I thought about it.  "Guilty."  the unfamiliar word rolled off my tongue, surprisingly.  There was no usefulness, in the feeling.  You could not make a thing unhappen, once it had  happened.  So why was i guilty.  I could not bring their parents back to life.

It wasn't my fault they were dead either.  It was II, #XXVII, who did it.  Thus, i convinced myself not to be guilty.  I decided this was a good place.  I could sit and think, and i didn't think any of those goody two shoes from my new agency would both me.

I finally had some peace and quiet too.  I stood up, brushed off my leggings, and went back to my room.  i sat, tapping my foot, in another new feeling, boredom.  I went back outside my room, and wandered the halls some more.  I eventually found my way to another abandoned room.

It wasn't abandoned because of decay, like the last one, but because of lack of interest.  I stepped into the empty library soundlessly.  i stepped up to the desk, and woke the librarian, who had fallen asleep with her nose in a book.  "Oh hello dear.  Are you here for a case file?"

"Thats all anyone ever comes here for."  she added under her breath.  "No.  i came here, wandering, but i would like to read."  The librarian gasped in excitment.  "Oh my! Is there anything in particular you'd like to read?  Tell me what you like, and ill make suggestions."

"Do you have any books on the history of this agency?"  "Oh.  You came here to study."  she deflated.  "No, i just enjoy reading textbook style books."  i said, and i was't lying this time.  "Really you're pleasure reading?"  the librarian perked up again and flew through the isles on her wheeled, ladder, causing me to run after her, catching all the heavy history textbooks she pulled doff the shelf.

"You're good.  Are you a speed or a strength?" the librarian asked.  "Im not a super."  "Wow, I though the one without powers was a boy."  "He's on my team.  I am a new member, transferring from SDTS."  The librarian snatched the books back.  "I won't have the enemy reading our history."

"Okay. Are there any thick textbook style books I can read?" "No. But we do have Eragon, and Harry Potter. Those are both thick, but neither of them are textbooks." "I'll read those." The librarian cheerfully sped off to grab the books. "Maybe I was wrong about you kid. You can read these after."

She let the huge stack of books fall with a thump onto the table in front of me." I smiled, and began to speed read, leafing through the pages as though I was a speed.  I finished the books in time for dinner.  "Where's the cafeteria?"  I asked the librarian.  "It's my dinner break, so I'm going there myself. Follow me."

She said, leading me to the huge, double doored room.  I stepped into line, and waited.  When I got to the front, the woman serving us, gave me a big scoop of gray mashed potatoes.  I stepped to the side, and got a block of macaroni and something else that definitely wasn't cheese.

I stepped to the side again, and got a hard roll, one more time for a salad, which was the most appetizing thing there, and a cookie, that looked like they'd accidentally put yeast in it.  I picked up the slab of macaroni, and put it on the tray of the person next to me, along with the "cookie".

I then picked up the tray, and sat down at an empty table.  There was only one, and it was in a dimly lit corner.  I scraped the mashed potatoes into the trash can next to me, and began to stab at my salad.  "The boy that I gave the gross things, sat down next to me.

"Thanks for the cookie."  He put both slabs of macaroni in the trash.  "Are you new?"  "Yeah."  "You're not super are you?  You're the one from SDTS."  "Yup."  "Is it true that our boss threatened you into joining your team?"  "That's only half true." "What's the whole truth?"

I shoved a forkful of salad in my mouth.  "Don't wanna answer that?  What's your name then?"  "Ivy."  "Are you gonna help our boss find your HQ?  Will you get special missions?  How come your boss picked you if you're not a super? Wh-"

I shoved my roll in his mouth.  "Stop talking."  I scrapers the last of my salad into the trash, and put the tray on top stacking it neatly with the others.

The boy had taken the roll out of his mouth and taken a bite.  "Have you decorated your room yet?"  I had a feeling he was going to follow me all the way there to find out.
