v. a court of blood and dawn
chapter five ─── a court of blood and dawn
𝔒ne of my other favourite series that I'm writing at this moment is A Court of Blood and Dawn, which if you can't already guess is my A Court of Thorns and Roses au. Now this is actually quite an ambitious series, because I've basically been having to rewrite a lot of things a) to integrate my characters into the stories and b) to get rid of some plot points that didn't sit well with me and further flesh out bits of the story which I didn't feel got enough attention.
That being the case, if you do read the books and think 'oh, I didn't see this in the original novel', it's probably because I've been messing around with things. I haven't disrupted the novel too much, but there are certain things that are quite major changes.
(I have a 15 page word document of changes to characters and plots).
So, without further ado, here are the books and the general gist of who the new characters are.
Dark Caress is the oldest of all three of these books. This follows the story of Rhysand's sister, Maiya, who is older than him in this book. Where Rhysand takes after his mother, and the Illyrian side of the family, Maiya is dangerously like her father leading the two to but heads. This book is the Azriel love story, and the first part can be read as a standalone but this is an interconnecting series.
Maiya is another incredibly morally grey character. She's a warrior, and top strategist as well as being a politician but she has a psychotic part which comes from her father. There's a lot of twists to this story, but Maiya and Azriel are definitely another of my favourite couples to write and read about.
The next book that I published was Shadow's Kiss which is the Rhysand love story. This follows Helion's little sister, Carasai, and her arranged marriage to Rhysand to strength both of their respective courts. Whilst this book does somewhat cross over with Dark Caress in the first part, you don't see a lot of Maiya and don't need to know about her.
Carasai is a healer and her and Rhysand's love story is a friendship to lovers one, which I actually really enjoy writing especially because both of these characters are so cute with each other and so understanding. I do enjoy writing for them, but because I've been having to do a lot of changes to the universe, this book is on a slight pause as I work out the best way to go about things, especially in terms of Rhysand.
This moves nicely onto my next point. I get a lot of questions about Feyre in this book and one thing to note, especially with any love story I write, I try my best not to pair up a minor with someone over 500 :)
The final book that I published was just purely because I wanted to write from Cassian, and it's also quite funny to have a book for each of the bat boys. This is Bleeding Love and follows the story of a fourth Archeron sister, Aimee. Now, I know I literally just said that I don't write minors with adults in a love story, but there is a difference with this book. I want to clear this up now, before it happens in the book, which is that Aimee and Cassian don't do anything romantic or get together until she's over 70, which is considered 'adult' in Fae terms.
This book is partly based off of Little Women as well, which is going to be interesting to write and I'm excited to get into it. However, to note, this book does deal with a lot more trauma based stuff than the other books do, but there will be warnings whenever I think it could potentially be triggering and if you have any questions about it, then please do ask.
