What does one have to do to receive the guidance of the universe? Is it enough with following one's instinct? Flora had been tormented by a crucial doubt for the past days, and she blamed Momotaro for it. It wasn't his entire fault, if she looked closer she could see that in reality he acted as a messenger.
In her hands waited a piece of paper, in it a set of messy letters communicated an address. The location the words were referring to was somewhere in the prairies, she knew that because she took the effort of searching it.
Why would Casimir send her to the middle of nowhere? All the details screamed trap, yet a little corner of her mind told her that maybe she needed to go. Even sitting in the garden of the new headquarters, surrounded by her beloved plants she couldn't fix her problems.
"¿Por qué no me fui a vivir a Uruguay?" She asked out loud, thinking that no one could hear her.
The contagious and characteristic sound of Stella's laugh made Flora realize her mistake. The red blush that spread through her face was so big that anyone could see it.
"So, you would love to be in Uruguay instead of sharing this wonderful day with me?" The woman asked with a mischievous tone.
"You're going to tell everyone. Don't you?"
"Give me two hours and the entire group would know. At least they'll have something to laugh about."
"Please don't tell Noah, he wouldn't shut up about it," begged Flora, already imagining the words the redhead will tell her.
"If you're nice to me we can make a deal."
"I'm always nice to you. Can you stop torturing me and help me decide?"
"What are the options?" Stella asked, taking a seat on the same bench as Flora.
The blonde passed the note to the woman, who read the words with the help of the sunlight passing through the space between the tree leaves.
"Casimir gave that address to Momotaro, he asked him to bring it to me," explained Flora. "Why would he do that? I'm afraid it could be a trap, but maybe it's useful and I'm wasting a chance."
"In cases like this one I like to ask myself: What's the best that could happen? Is better to focus on the good side."
"A little positivity can't be bad right now. I could have some vital information. Then I should go."
"If you're going make sure to let someone know. If you're back in two hours we'll send a team to look for you," suggested Stella.
"How's it that you always know the right thing to say?"
"You're overreacting."
Stella left the garden, yet her advice stayed with Flora for a long time. The woman has always been like that, she comes from nowhere carrying the last piece to form the puzzle and after that, she's gone, ready to solve other people's enigma.
The blonde chose to follow her heart. She concluded that as a journalist sometimes it's best to listen to the hunch that could bring your next success. So she informed Clio where she was going in case anything goes wrong and then she gave the first step of her trip.
Not even the green hills on both sides of the road or the clear sky above were enough to kill the reluctance engraved in Flora's brain as she drove alone. The lovely song of the birds and the sweet smell of the flowers made the young woman wish she could share this moment with her friends. She never liked to go on a trip by herself.
After a while of driving and sulking, she arrived at the marked space, at least the closest she could get with the car, the rest of the trip she had to do it by foot.
As soon as she left the car a tenebrous sentiment took over her body. The closer she got to the old oak at the side of the prairie, the bigger the feeling was. She followed the emotion next to the tree, whatever created that force had to be under the ground.
She touched the base of the tree trunk, with her eyes closed she communicated with it. A pang went directly to her heart once the plant pleaded, the thing that was buried, damaged the plant to the point that it would die soon. It was then that she paid the proper attention to the dry branches and the lack of leaves.
It was clear what she had to do: unearth the cause of the problem. And she'll need help to do it. So she took her cellphone and sent a message to the group she had with the members that knew about the real intention of the demons.
She received several negative answers, everyone seemed to be busy that day. When the loss started crawling over her legs, a racing blur chased it away.
"I brought two shovels," said Noah, showing the objects after he came to a stop. "Surprised to see me here?"
"I can't believe that you're helping me."
"I like to think that I'm helping myself, you're not my favorite person in the world but I'll choose you over the demons." He explained, then he threw one of the shovels in Flora's direction. "Where do I start?"
The blonde used a fallen branch to draw a line to limit the area. They jumped into action immediately, both digging on their side of the space.
"What're we looking for?" Asked Noah as he kept doing his job.
"No idea, Casimir sent me here and I'm feeling an awful vibe in this area?"
"And if something goes wrong you can get rid of your enemy. Good thinking, I applaud you for it."
"You're an annoying shit, still you're not my enemy," confessed Flora. "As you said, demons are worse."
"Annoying shit? I remind you that I am the only one who came to help you. You can at least say handsome rival."
The young woman laughed so hard that she had to take a pause from digging. Seconds later, the redhead joined her.
"You're not that bad when you don't say your lame insults."
"Your insults are lame."
"I'm Argentinian, my insults are at a superior level."
The two of them continued their playful bickering for a while as the task advanced. Once Noah recovered some energy from the previous run, he used his power to dig faster. After that, it didn't take long before his shovel hit something.
"¡La puta que me parió! Is that what I think it is?" Exclaimed Flora.
"If you think it's a human bone, then you're right. And there's more here," confirmed the young man moving some dirt with the shovel.
