Why is it that when happiness arose in her life Agatha couldn't stop feeling guilty? Demir said that maybe she didn't think she deserved it. Sometimes a person can be more demanding with themselves than with others.
The young woman pretended to be ignorant of the real reason. She knew where the problem resided because every night, instead of dreaming with her boyfriend she kept seeing Lorcan's sad eyes.
Why did she run away? Agatha wished she could come back in time and stay with her friend to talk with him. She wished that the shame wouldn't cloud her mind while she planned how to talk to him again. Truth was that she didn't have another option, Lorcan still needed her assistance to heal and she had to visit him that morning.
She gave herself the lamest pep talk ever as she put on her clothes for the day. Maybe if she repeated that everything was going to be alright then it would become a reality, and then Lorcan will act as if nothing happened and she will just follow his lead.
The storm of her thoughts continued to break havoc inside her head the entire trip. However, once Lorcan smiled her mind short-circuited.
"Good morning My Lady," he greeted her.
"My Lord, how're you feeling?"
"I'm definitely better, something tells me that this could be our last healing session." Lorcan's words had a fantastic meaning, he would be able to return to his routine, yet his voice carried a touch of sadness.
Agatha began to work without giving an answer. It didn't take long to close the remaining wounds, still, wrapped in the unfamiliar silence.
The young man was correct about his prediction, he wouldn't need her help anymore. Even if they wished to prolong their encounters there was no point in ignoring the truth.
"You're right, your days of bed rest are over. Congratulations," said Agatha while she took some distance from her friend.
"Thanks. Do you have something to do right now?"
"No. Why?"
"I know you don't have a good relationship with surprises or sudden changes but I'd like to thank you for your help," Lorcan explained before getting out of the bed to stretch his muscles. "I believe I still owe you a trip on my motorcycle."
"Are you sure? You just finished healing."
"We won't be doing anything crazy, and I miss the fresh air."
"Okay, but be careful," Agatha warned him.
"Even if something happens I'll have the best healer in the world by my side."
Lorcan smiled at her, it was a real smile. She knew that because the light of his eyes was back, at least for a second. Her heartbeat gave a little jump, she told herself that it had to be because she hadn't seen him so happy in the last few days.
The young man went to the bathroom to change his clothes. He explained to her that Momotaro had been using the motorcycle so he left it in Gellert's garage so Lorcan could use it once he got better.
Agatha used the alone time to calm her nerves, she couldn't believe that she passed from being afraid of her friend's rejection to going out with him.
"Ready, My Lady?" Asked the young man opening the door of the bedroom.
She followed behind him, as she observed his back she couldn't help but fall victim to the tingling that formed in her stomach.
They found the vehicle exactly where Momo said. It was the first time that Agatha had seen the black motorcycle, she didn't expect it to be so big. One look was enough for her to regret her decision.
"Don't be afraid, I'll be with you all the way," Lorcan reassured her while he searched for the helmets. "Use this."
The girl tried to put on the helmet copying the young man's actions, but the task resulted harder than it looked. She was so focused that she didn't see the pair of hands approaching hers until they touched her.
"Let me help you," he whispered.
The warmth went away as fast as it came. Lorcan took only some seconds to fasten the helmet. Then he mounted the motorcycle and signaled Agatha to do the same.
"Hold onto me, to be safer." The brunette indicated to her. "You can hold onto my shoulders. I don't want you to be uncomfortable."
She could barely hear the last part of the phrase because of the weak tone he used to pronounce the words.
"Why would I be uncomfortable?"
"You don't like physical contact and also you have a boyfriend, so I thought." He interrupted himself. "Forget it, I was being stupid."
"You're not stupid, you're being considerate," said Agatha as she wrapped her arms around the boy's torso. "Just to be clear, me having a boyfriend doesn't make a difference in our friendship."
"Right, our friendship."
Lorcan started the engine of the vehicle before she had the chance to react to his comment. Once the adrenaline spread through Agatha, she forgot about their conversation.
Soon she found her body pressed against the young man's back, his characteristic warmth invaded her once again. The sweet aroma of Lorcan's perfume helped to increase the tingling sensation that took over her stomach since she got onto the bike. Was it wrong to feel so safe next to a man that wasn't her boyfriend? The answer didn't matter, after all her mind and heart told her that one way or another she'll still feel the same.
The member of the Protectors drove at a moderate speed which allowed them to admire the landscape. Little by little they left behind the colorful houses, to say hello to the beach. To their right, the sea shone thanks to the rays of sunlight. The few people walking through, fell victim to the flying sand carried by the strong wind.
Lorcan stopped the bike after they passed the beaches. He dismounted the motorcycle first, then he offered his hand to help Agatha.
"Where are we?" Asked the girl.
"You'll see, My Lady. I'm sure you heard about this place."
The young man guided her, putting his hand on her back. An old water well came into view. The rocks of its base were dull red, and its roof was missing some of its wooden planks.
"The wishing well!" Exclaimed Agatha. She did a little dance, took one of her friend's hands in hers and dragged him towards the structure. "I always wanted to see it but I didn't know where to go."
"Do you want to make a wish?"
"Have you ever made a wish?"
"No, I didn't." Lorcan answered sincerely." But my father did, he says his wish came true."
"What did he wish for?"
"He wished to become my mother's boyfriend. It obviously worked."
He looked for the two coins he had reserved inside his jacket pocket. Once he found them he gave one to Agatha.
Each of them visualized what they wanted to ask. Images of their dreams filled their minds, bringing happiness to their souls. They tossed the coins at the same time, a little offer in exchange for their deepest desire to come true.
"What did you ask for?" Asked the librarian.
"If I tell you it won't work, is the basic rule of asking for a wish." Lorcan diverted the question. He turned his gaze in his companion's direction and noticed that she was shivering. He took out his jacket so he could give it to her. "This would help you to warm up."
Agatha put on the purple bomber jacket, she sighed with satisfaction.
"Thanks," she said. "My Lord is always so chivalrous."
"I do my best to maintain my good reputation," he joked.
Soon it was time to return, Agatha had another compromise and she didn't want to be late.
They left the water well behind keeping their wishes: Agatha's petition for the safety of her loved ones and Lorcan's wish for Agatha to be happy.
