New Wolf on Block
Chapter Three : New Wolf On Block
"Scott no matter who you feel, It's still a full moon." I was walking with the boys as they headed to practice.
"I'm serious. It's not like the last full moon. I don't feel the same."
"Oh does that include the urge to maim and kill people. Like Us?" Stiles asks, turning into the locker room.
"See ya round boys." I slip away heading to the field to meet Allison. And because she doesn't let anything go, probably Lottie as well.
I stopped at my locker to put a few things away. When I was done someone else slammed it shut. Lottie stood with a smug grin on her face. Her eyes had bits of gold eye shadow and most of all, she was going full monotone. Where a head to two brown outfit. Stiles picked me up this morning so I had no clue what she looked like when she left the house.
"So any news?"
"News?" Why did she have to see Scott turn? Why god? Why?
"News. Deaths? Red eyes?" I leaned agonist my locker so she would be looking at the side of my head.
"They found Lydia last night."
"Yeah I know that. I mean any out of a fairytale news?"
"None. Okay why do you care so much?"
"Because, my dear sister. You and your friends save lives. I wanna help."
"Not happening."
"I'm not gonna stop till you let me help."
"Trust me I know." I push off my locker rolling my eyes. Both of us turn to face the door.
What stood in front of us was a crowd of kids looking at Allison and Lydia. The crazy and niece of a serial killer. It didn't help that me and Lottie stood still on the top of the stairs, looking down at our friends. Lydia looked at the floor and Allison held her bag in an uneasy stance.
"Maybe It's the nine pounds." Allison says. I was only able to hear it because no one else in the hall was talking. Lydia takes a few more looks around the hallway before flipping her hair and strutting off into the sea of students. Allison following with a grin on her face.
I have to say, Lydia Martin was one bad bitch.
Lottie and I had the same free period. 9 times out of 10 we spent it together. This was one of those times. The two of us march to the field. We sat on the high bleachers top row so you could only partly see the people on the field.
I watched at our very own number 24 ran to coach and got a shit ton of extra gear. "Stiles what planning?" I whisper.
"What? Stiles and plans never end well."
"Yes Lottie I know that." Coach blows a whistle and Scott runs into the goal, "This is a terrible idea."
"What's the idea?" Lottie pulls out a pen and the notebook she had in the hospital. I guess that is her supernatural knowledge collection.
"If it involves Scott in goal, something really dumb."
That proves to be true when as soon as a ball is thrown Scott is out of the goal. Even from here I could see the faint yellow glow of his eyes. Then he sniffs someone. I cover my face leaning against one of the guard rails. "What the hell is Scott doing?"
"Trying to find someone. Who I have no clue. But someone. And in all likelihood they won't be human."
"Great." She says with an exacerbated sigh.
"I thought you were all into this."
"Part of me. The other part says, wow, way to get yourself killed."
"You should listen to that part."
"You didn't let me finish. A third part of me is saying how is it fair that I get to live, when my sister and friends are putting their lives on the line. And right now. That third part is the part winning."
"You have a great heart and a really dumb mind Charlotte Homles."
I look back at the field. Scott was back in the goal, number 14 holds a stick. "Isaac." I breathe out. How could I be so dumb. Of course. Scott smelt another werewolf in the locker room, and was just trying to find who it was.
Coach blows the whistle throwing the ball to Isaac. He catches the ball both Scott and him run to each other. Both end up body checked and on the ground. The two boys look up at each other. Two deputies and the sheriff step out from behind the bleachers.
I look at Lottie with my eyes wide. She just nods. Both of us jump to our feet running down to Scott and Stiles. "Stiles!" He turns at the sound of me calling his name. "What the hell!?" I say more than ask.
"Isaac Lahey. The boy my Dad is talking to. He's a werewolf." Stiles explains seeing as Scott is deep in thought
"Of course he is." Lottie lets out a small breath.
"His father's dead. They think he was murdered." Scott says ears trained on the conversation.
"Is he a suspect?" Lottie asked, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"I'm not sure why?"
"Because they can lock him in a holding cell for 24 hours." Stiles says.
"AKA hold him down on the full moon." I realize what Stiles is trying to explain.
"How good are the holding cells at holding people?" Scott asks, seeing what our plan was."
"People, great. Werewolves, probably not that good." Thanks for the confidence Stiles.
"Stiles, Cait, remember how I said I don't have the urge to maim and kill?"
"Yeah.?" We both said. Stiles as a response, me as more of a question.
"He dose." Lucky us.
In chem, the one class I have with Lottie, we sat in front of Stiles and Scott. God why did we have to find out today, when my sister was around.
"Why would Derek choose Isaac?" Scott asks in a poor whisper.
"Peter told me if the bite doesn't turn you it could kill you."
"How does that matter?" I ask my head still trained on my paper.
"Maybe. Tennagers have a better chance of surviving."
"Dose being a teenager mean your dad can't hold him?" Scott asked.
"Yeah is he like stronger or something?" Lottie adds in.
"Well, not unless they have solid evidence."
"Or a witness." I say still copying notes from the board.
"Or a witness." Stiles repeat turning around to face Danny, "Danny. Where's jackson?"
"In the principal's office talking to your Dad."
"What why?" I roll my eyes. Because Stiles he lives across the street from them.
"Maybe because he lives across the street from Isaac." Thank you Danny for actual intelligence.
"Making him a witness." I hear Scott say.
"We gotta get to the office."
"How?" Lottie whispers breaking the tip of her pencil.
"Everyone please turn to page 73." I look up at Mr. Harris, who just got a piece of paper throw at his head. "Who the hell did that?" Me and Lottie both point behind us at the boys, who are pointing to each other.
After class the four of us head to the office. I told Scott to sit in front of the glass window so he could hear better. As soon as the Sheriff leaves the room, Stiles picks up a random magazine trying to hide his face.
"Hi Scott. Cait. Girl I don't know."
"Hey." "Hi." Hello." each of us gives an awkward wave. The Sheriff just sighs and walks off.
"Boys. Girls." The voice of an old man comes to my ears. I look over to the door of the office to see none other than Gerard Agent. Scott's body freezes up. "Come on in." The four of us walk into the room very quiet. Scott's eyes trained on the floor, mine to the back of my sister's head. The two humans look more at ease, not that they aren't scared too.
"Scott McCall. Academically not the most accomplished, but I see you have become quite the star athlete." Scott Nods, as Gerard moves onto Stiles. "Mr. Stilinski. Oh, perfect grades but little to no extracurriculars. Maybe you should try lacrosse."
"Oh, actually I'm already on the team."
"Of course, Charlotte Holmes. B average and journalisme. You seem to be well adjusted to the new school."
"Yeah I guess, I want to be a reporter, so it seems ideal."
"And as for you Miss Caitlin. Top grades. Specifically high in physics and Chemistry."
"What can I say, I like-"
"Hold on. McCall." I feel my body stiffen at Gerard's interest in Scott, "You're the Scott that was dating my granddaughter."
"We were dating but not anymore. Not dating. Not seeing any of each other."
"Scott, we get it. It was a hard break up. You don't need to freeze every time someone mentions her." Thank you Lottie.
"Miss Holmes, is right. You can relax Scott, you look like you're about to crack a cyanide pill with your teeth."
"Yeah Lottie was right. Just a hard break up."
"Oh that's too bad. You seem like a pretty nice kid to me. Now listen guys and girls. I am the principal, but I really don't want you to think of me as the enemy." You are the enemy
"Hea, is that so?" Stiles asks with a half laugh.
"However this being my first day, I do need to support my teachers. So unfortunately someone is going to have to take the fall and stay behind for detention.."
Everyone turns to look at Stiles. He goes to aggure but gives in.
We gett out of the office. All three of us allowed to leave, sprint out of the school. We get out of the building, just in time to see the sheriff and Isaac, dive away. I heart drops a little. Isaac Lahey had a really crappy life till he moved in with Scott. Then his girlfriend died and it went back to being cappy. It all started with his father.
Me and Scott turn to go back in the building. A set of tires screech from behind us. Derek's black camaro. He stopped in front of the steps. "Get in. All three of you."
"Are you serious? You did that. This is your fault." Scott says pointing to the now gone cop car.
"I know that. Now get in the car. All three of you." Don't you dare bring Lottie into this.
"I got a better Idea." I pause walking a few steps, "I'm gonna call a lawyer. Because a lawyer might actually have a chance at getting him out before the moon goes up."
Me Scott and Lottie were now standing a platform down from where we started. "Not when they do a real search of the house."
"What do you mean?" Scott and I ask at the same time.
"Whatever Jackson said to the cops, what's in the house is worse. A lot worse."
"Lottie's not coming." Scott and I say at the same time once again.
"Oh, I'm coming. The question is if you two are." She says already opening the door to the car. I roll my eyes, Scott takes a deep breath then we follow my sister into the car.
We pull up to the back of the Lehay household. The whole place was wrapped in caution tape. Derek passed Lottie a flashlight, there by assuming me and Scott to use not human resources.
When we get in the house I set my hand balze, Lottie turns on the flashlight and Scott's eyes go gold. "So if Isaac didn't kill his father who did?" Lottie asked in a tone of voice rendering she was creeped out.
"I don't know yet."
"Then how do you know he's telling the truth?" Scott was the one to question this time.
"His eyes." I say.
"What? Derek what does she mean?" Scott asked.
"I mean you said they were gold right?"
"Yeah just like me."
"Then he didn't kill anyone. Golden eyes mean beta. But they also mean the wolf has never killed an innocent, otherwise known as a human. You know red eyes mean Alpha. But blue eyes, mean a beta who took a human life."
"Not only that. But I trust my senses. And the combination of them, Not just my sense of smell." Scott stops walking.
"You saw the lacrosse thing today."
"Yeah." He focus the word out on one shallow breath.
"Did it look that bad?"
"Scott it was so bad Cait covered her eyes." Lottie says, moving the flashlight to see a different room then the one we were in.
Derek leads us to the basement. The cement walls make me feel small, and knowing what kinda horror is down there makes my knees weak. The fourth step down creeks when we walk over it. "What are we looking for?" Scott asks his eyes now brown again.
"Follow your senses." That was all Derek said. The three of us walked by a few porcelain clowns that made my skin crawl.
"What happened down here?" Lottie asks as we heard Derek creek on the fourth step.
"The kind thing that leaves an impression." The basement was claustrophobic. There was always just one more thing that made the hair on your arms stand up. Every turn brought a new pile of stuff. It was something right out of American Horror Story.
There was a set of claw marks on the ground that Scott noticed. He bent down tracing them with his own hand. Then the thing that haunted my childhood. A small white freezer lay in the corner. (I say it haunted my childhood because my parents used to joke that if we misbehaved they would lock me and my brother in a freezer like Isaac Lahey. Not fun to hear as a 10 year old kid.)
Without thinking I walk over to the freezer. My hand moves over the lock, slowly melting the thing off. Scott's beats shorten as he goes to lift the lid. A flashlight turns on next to the two of us. We both jump only to see Lottie and Derek. "Open it." that was once again all the information Derek gave us.
Mine and Scott's hand move to reach the vinlle lining. The hinges make a noise worse than nail's an a chalkboard. I look inside to see thousands of claw marks, and noticeably some blood. The whole thing looked like you burnt a fire inside of it, charcoal colored dust was all over it.
"So this is why he said yes to you?" Scott asked his hand tracing a set of claw marks.
"Everyone want's power."
"This.. This is not a want of power, this..this a NEED to feel safe." I say closing the lid of the freezer.
"If we help you, then you have to stop. You can't just go around turning people into werewolves." Scott says turning to face the Alpha.
"I can if they're willing." Derek snaps back.
"But are they willing to feel different. Gain power. Or are they willing for reasons like this? Are they willing because ANYTHING. Seems better than what their lives are now?" Lottie asked taing the flashlight back
"Lottie's right. Did you even tell Isaac about the Argents? Or that he can be killed with a flower? Or how about that mountain ash makes it so he can't enter a room? Or did you just offer him the bit for your own good?" I turn to face Derek and the back of Scott's head.
"Yes and he still asked."
"Then he's an idiot." Lottie aggures.
"Yeah and Scott's the idiot dating Argent's daughter." Scott looks taken aback. The whole 'Date and don't tell' only works with humans, "Yeah I know you little secret. And If I know how long do you think it's gonna take for them to find out?" Longer than you think. "You saw what happens to an omega."
"Scott what's he talking about?" I tried to keep my voice steady, knowing that Scott isn't truly an omega, but an Alpha. The only thing is, that takes a few more months.
"The other night I was looking for Lydia. I came across a lone wolf. An omega. And Derek held me back as I watched Gerard Argent cut him in half. Allison's father tried to fight him on it, saying they live by a code, but Gerard claimed that there would be no more code. Not after Kate's death."
"Wait the guys who's our principal?" Lottie asked, her eyebrow raised.
"Yeah."
"Principal?" Derek asked, disbelief redating off him.
"Today was his first day on the job." I say jumping to sit on top of the freezer.
"Scott with me you can learn how to use all your senses." Or he could just ask me seeing as I'm the doppelganger. But he doesn't know that, and he won't find out until I leave earth 40. "With me you learn control." Not really, he learns it on his own. Truly he learns it out of fear of hurting anyone. Bringing us back to the whole Alpha thing. Scott's fine without you Derek, it scares me you can't see that. "Even on a full moon." Derek finishes pulling Scott's hand up to show the half moon marks his claws mad in his skin. Small amounts of blood covered the cuts. I think to when Scott first takes Liam Dunbar out of chains on the night of a full moon. His hands looked the same.
"If I join you I lose her. And Not just Allison. I lose everyone."
"You'll lose them anyway. You're not human Scott, stop trying to be." Derek hits the freezer, walking away.
"Derek wait! I'm not part of your pack. But I want him out." Scott refers to the freezer underneath me.
"Why because he's one of us?" Derek asked, turning back around.
"Because he's innocent." Derek smirks walking away. Leaving three teenagers alone in the basement of a crime screen.
"You won't lose us Scott. Human or not." Lottie says putting her hand on Scott's shoulder. I wish I could say the same thing but It's not true. One day when Chole Evlynn and Lottie remember, he will lose us. That's just bound to happen.
"Lock me in." Scott say lifting his head to look at me.
"WHAT?" I squint my eyes at my best friend.
"Lock me in. Derek's right I can't control it. Not like he can. So lock me in this damn freezer."
"Scot you're- you have to be kidding." Lottie says taking a step back.
"I'm not." I look out the small window to where the full moon hangs above us.
"Okay." I say in a low voice jumping off the white nightmare, "But I'm gonna try to talk you through the whole night."
Lottie opens the hood of the freezer, and Scott climbs in. His head hit the side of the freezer. He closed his eyes, opening them to reveal the harsh shade of yellow that comes with being a beta. "Please I don't want to hurt you. Either of you." I found a set of chains on the floor of this hell hole and warped them around the now closed freezer. I tried not to think about the fact that I was partially suffocating my best friend. A small tear falls from my eye.
I take a breath before saying, "It's done. Okay It's locked."
"Then go."
"No, you can't fight me on this one."
"Cait go. Make sure you and Lottie are safe."
"No." I jump so once more I'm sitting on the freezer.
"Now, something I learned is that you need to find an anchor. Your's has always been Allison. Derek's is rage. That's why he's extra pissy on full moons. But's your's is Allison. So focus on that. What she looks like, how she makes you feel." I hear him clawing around the freezer from under me, but I keep going. "How her hair looks when you sneak into her room on friday nights." The scratching got louder. Lottie gasped closing her eyes, "Think about how you leave notes in her locker. Think about how even through everyone at Kate's funeral was ready to kill you, and how you went anyway just because you knew it would make her feel better." This time Scott let out a roar. I jumped a little but kept going, "Think about how how you leaven notes on her car window. Think about the way she smiles when she walls down the hall. Think about.." what else is there? "Think about how she loves you just as much as you love her." I hear a hissing noise from upstairs. I jump off the freezer. "Lottie keep talking to him."
I head back up the stairs, a flame now in my hand. I take a breath opening the basement door. I snake around the house, trying to find the source of the noise. My hand runs along the walls, my feet making soft pounding noises as if I was walking over sand. I made my way to the kitchen, therefore looking around the whole of the first floor.
Before me was a lizard of sorts. No, not a lizard, a kanima. A scream comes out of my mouth as it snarled at me. I turn on the water of the sink, that way I can use it as a weapons, remembering the kanima's fear of water. The yellow slit eyes move closer to the ground. "Come on." I whisper. "Come On!" I say again this time yelling.
It starts to climb the ceiling. I move the water next to me as a sort of shield. Just then Scott comes breaking through the basement door, rolling in front of me snarling at the kanima. Scott snarls and then the creacher just leaves breaking a hole in the side of the house.
Lottie came pounding up the stairs just in time to see the kanima get away, "What the hell is that?!"
"A kanima." I whisper so quietly I'm not even sure if Scott can hear me.
