He Is The True Alpha
Chapter Seven : He Is The True Alpha
Scott parked the car at the hospital. "You know Cait, you really didn't have to come, I'm just dropping food off for my mom."
"I'm not letting you out of my sight for at least the next 24 hours, after almost dying two days in a row." he mumbles something like 'whatever' as the two of us step out of the car.
The hospital was going crazy. I mean people were bleeding from their gut. At least 20 nurse aids were moving around Melisa McCall included. As soon as we walked in Scott held up the bag of chinese food we brought. "Ah thank god, I'm starving." Mrs. McCall says as she walks up to us. Scott laughs a little and I just bit my lower lip trying not to, seeing as we are still surrounded by people bleeding. "Uhh, I'm sorry. Thank you for bringing me dinner." Melisas say as she hugs her son.
"Everything okay?" Scott asked, pulling back.
"Except for half the accident victims in a ten car pile-up being rerouted here from downtown, and the ER attending not answering any of his pages, yeah I'm okay."
"What does not answering pages mean?" I ask, turning my head up to see better.
"It means no one can find him, so now we have to wait for the on call to get here."
A woman comes up from behind Mrs. McCall, the front of her shirt was stained red from blood, but she was walking fine. "Miss, can I please, kinda, have something for the pain?" She asked.
"Okay, I'm sore, I know, But actually giving you something could complicate things, so we really just need you to wait for the doctor." Melissa moves the woman away.
I look up at Scott. He was biting his lower lip, and squinting. "Ohh no. I know that look. That's the 'Scott McCal Is about to do something and he's not sure if it's a good idea' look."
"What, I don't have a look."
"Oh Scott, sweety you have a look." The respinost says leaning over the desk
"See you sir, have a look."
"Well then you know that I'm going to do it anyway."
"Fair point." Scott starts to walk over to the lady from before. He took a seat next to her as she cried.
"You know I think I read online that sometimes human contact can help with pain." He said slowly reaching over to touch her hand. His veins started to pulse black as they ran up his arm. The woman gasps no longer wincing. Scott looked back at me. All I did was smile.
The doors to the ER opened. Ethan came in holding Danny like a wounded soldier, one arm over his shoulder. "Someone.. SOmeone help me! I need help!" Ethan called as Danny started to fall.
Scott and I race over slowly helping Danny into a chair. "Okay gentle, gentle." Melissa warns as Danny groans. Scott and I pull Ethan aside.
"Okay, start talking. What the HELL do you do to him?" I ask, terrified Ethan gave him the bite.
"Nothing, okay. He said he was having chest pains and trouble breathing, but it- it just kept getting worse."
Melisas felt Danny's throat, "This is not good. HOW MUCH LONGER ON DOCTOR HILYARD?" Melissa paused, "His larynx has shifted to the side. I think it's a tension pneumothrax." Just then Danny leans forward and vomits. It was like half a centimeter from my shoe. But the thing that really caught my attention was the bits of green plants.
"Okay one Ew." I say. "But two, you guys know what that is right?"
"Mistletoe." Scott and Ethan say at the same time.
They got a granny of Danny as Ethan Scott and I followed him into the Er. "Can the three of you please go back to the waiting room?" Melissa asked us, as she wheeled Danny into the ER.
"Where are the nurse and the doctors? Where is everyone?" Ethan asked.
"It's a full house tonight they're tending to other patients." Mrs. McCall explained to the alpha.
"Okak, Mrs. McCall how can we help?" I ask, leaning over Danny's bed.
"Honey you can't, his lung is collapsed. His heart is being pushed against his chest cavity, so"
"He's gonna die isn't he?" Scott asked, fear covering his face.
Melissa looks behind her, "No. No he's not. Scott you grab the tape. Ethan gabe those scissors and cut open his shirt." Melissa digs in a drawer behind her and grabs a needled that would make Sties faint on sight.
"Mom, he's not breathing."
"I know. I know. Okay." In that moment Melisa stabs the needle into Danny.
Ten seconds go by before anything happens but Danny's starts to breathe like normal again, he opens his eyes, "Thank you."
"No problem." Mrs. McCall laughs, the same way her son does when someone shows gratitude. Ethan Scott and I are staring at Melissa. "What?"
"That was awesome."
She laughs again, "It was uh no problem you know? I mean it wasn't a big deal."
"Now I know where Scott gets it from. Quit being modest for a moment and take the praise." I tell the woman.
Ethan pulls me outside of the ER back into the hall. "It's starting."
"The war that your pack of dogs created, yeah I know." I tell him, already pissed.
"Whether it's our fault or not. You're involved. Scott's involved. Okay he needs to know what he is."
"Really. That's your grand plan. Because the other day when you guys went all phscoy and tried to kill yourselves, Scott was so out of whack he was able to see his own red eyes." I lifted up my arm to show the bruis, "He gave me this, begging for me to explain it."
"Then explain it to him."
"HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THEY EXIST, LET ALONE THAT HE IS ONE!"
"SO TELL HIM! Caitlin, we need a true alpha in the fight." He pauses. "We need a doppelganger in this fight." With that Ethan walked off, just as Scott walked out of the ER.
"Are you okay? Did he do anything?"
"Scott I'm fine."
When we got outside a car was driving, and swerving. The two of us picked up into a sprint just as the car hit the back of someone else's. But when Scott opened the door, no one was in the car. Just a couple of dead moths.
" I think we better call Stiles."
"And his dad." Scott replise.
A few minutes later Stiles shows up and is trying to explain the two missing doctors. Two different kidnappings. His father asked us to step aside so he can get the story from Melissa McCall.
"These are definitely sacrifices, right?" Scott asked, his head hanging low.
"Healers. Deaton mentioned them." Stiles answered his voice grim.
"Stiles, what about Danny, I mean he threw up mistletoe. People don't just go around buying real mistletoe."
"Yeah that can't be a counisadanc. And if he hadn't been with Ethan, he probably would have died. But Danny's not a healer." Scott adds.
Stiles just shakes his head, "I- Can you hear that?" Stiles asked his best friend pointing to the phone in his father's hand.
Scott nods and tilts his head, "They found a body."
The next day in chem everything was off. I had to tell Scott what he was, but I didn't know who. Mr. Harris was still missing..I mean sick. At least that's what the school is required to tell us. "Cait."
"Yeah Stiles."
"My dad said the ER attending wasn't strangled but did die from asphyxion. They just don't know how."
"Do you think the on call doctor could still be alive?" Scott asked, biting the end of his pencil.
"I don't know."
"Yeah neither do I, but Scott. There's got to be at least 20 doctors in that hospital- at least. Anyone of them could be next."
Scott's phone started to ring. All I heard was "What's happening? Cait we need to go. Stiles check on Lydia." Scott says grabbing my hand and pulling me out of class. He didn't let go of my hand as he pulled me down the hall and to his bike.
"Scott what's going on?" I asked as he passed me a helmet.
"Deaton. He's the next sacrifice." I nod and climb onto the bike.
When we got to the clinic cops were already there. "How did you know?" Scott asked panting.
"Stiles called me after you two left School. I'm sorry Scott, your boss's car is still here. And the back door was wide open." The sheriff explained as Scott took a seat. "Scott.. I need you to tell me everything." Scott starts to explain what he can without, any supernatural information. Things like the call in the middle of class. "All right. We are gonna do everything we can. Right now the best thing the three of you can do (Stiles came did I say that?) is to go back to school."
Scott nodded as the sheriff went back to work. He got up and lead Stiles and I to the back room of the clinic. "We have to tell him." Scott told Stiles.
"You mean like tell him tell him? OR tell him something else that isn't telling him what I think you want to tell him?"
"Tell him, Tell him. Stiles." I say leaning on a cat cage.
"Remember how Scott's mom reacted? She didn't talk to him for a week."
"And she got over it, and if anything it made us closer." Scott said, trying to get Stiles to agree.
"Guys I don't know. I mean look at him. Come on hes completely overwhelmed as it is."
"Because he doesn't know everything. I mean my sisters were overwhelmed when Lottie and I ignored them, and they bugged us, but still didn't know what was going on."
"Cait's right. He's overwhelmed because he had no clue what's happening. People are dying in his town, the town that he's meant to protect, and it's not his fault that he doesn't know what's happening."
"Stiles he's gonna find out sooner or later, it's just better if your the one who tells him."
"Okay yeah, Cait. But is now really the right time?"
"What if not telling him now gets someone else killed?" Scott asked, as we tried to push the point.
"What if telling him gets him killed? Okay look I get that Deaton's been like a father to you , Scott. I get that. But that is my father, Scott. My actual father. I can't- I can't lose both of my parents, All right? Not both of them." The way he said actual made my heart rip. I thought of my Dad and of the fact that to him I haven't seen him for three days, but for me it's been over a year.
"Your right." I say, still having a flashback moment.
Stiles sighed, "No I'm not. I'm not right. I'll tell him."
"We'll help you." Scott said with half a smile.
When we step out of the back room Ms. Morell was saying how she hoped the police could save her brother. "I forget they were related." Shit, I didn't mean to say that out loud.
"You know they were related?" Stiles asked, crazy eyed.
"Uhh yeah. I mean think, they even look a like, and they both know a carp tone about me and Scott."
"Yeah I guess we should probably have put that together." Scott said, sighing.
Ms. Morell flipped her hair over her shoulder, and walked over to the three of us. "Listen closely, all three of you. No sheriff, deputy, or detective is going to be able to find him."
"You don't have to ask us for help." Scott said.
"Actually, I'm trying to help you, because if you're going to find my brother, then you need to use the one person who might actually have an ability to seek out the supernatural."
"Lydia." I say, thankful she didn't mean me.
We head back to School trying to find Lydia. Ethan's conversation, still in the back of my head. I was just walking down the hall when someone jumped me. I wanted to yell but he put his hand over my mouth. No not hand claws. Aiden pulled me into the music room that only one other person was in.
"Deucalion." I say cold-heartedly.
"They don't know who you are. Do they? You little supernatural friends."
I point my head to the floor. "No, they don't."
"So why did you think we did?"
"Well Peter Hale, and Gerard had no cule. I figured you and Bitches might." Aiden went to hurt me but Decalion called him back. Funny how one word cares so much power. "What do you want with me?"
"I want to help you. Find our little true Alphas boss, of course."
"What's the catch?"
"You do know me well." He holds him cane out in both hands. "Get the cane, and I'll tell you where Deaton is." I don't move. I can hear Aiden laugh from behind me as I reach out my hand. But Deucalion knows me as well, and throws the cane out the door. Aiden claws my leg making me fall to the ground, blood staging my jeans.
"We both know the whole Dark druid isn't my thing. Slashing up innocent people, praying to an ancient god, gathering herbs, or whatever the hell Druids are supposed to do. I am part of a pack that wants Derek dead, though. Kali is coming for him, so there's a difficult choice you're about to face. Someone will die tonight, and whether that's Derek or Deaton, well that's up to you. Sorry about the leg."
"Just tell me where Deaton is."
" You know I met one of your siblings, years ago she was winny and didn't care about much. She's dead now, not that I killed her, but she was 68, 24 years ago. So because I like you so much more, I will tell you one thing. Let the current guide you."
I take a few breaths before standing up and walking to where Lydia Scott Stiles and I think Cora. The halls were full of kids but it felt empty. After that discussion with Deucalion I decided I would tell Scott what he is. But I'm not sure how yet.
When I pushed open the door Lydia was talking. "I don't know why, you're even bothering with me anyway. I mean, especially since it's obvious you should be talking to Danny."
Stiles gave the strawberry blond a look, "What? Why Danny?"
"Because.. Last night he was a target. But he wasn't a sacrifice." I say. "Scott, can I talk to you. Alone?"
"Can it wait?"
"Why?" Scott showed me his phone. Allison sent him a text saying that she found something. "Okay, sure. I'll come with you."
When we got into Allison's apartment she pulled us back into her father's office. "So I was looking through one of his drawers, and I found this." Allison held up a uv light, when the elevator dinged. "He wasn't supposed to be back yet."
"What do you want us to do?" I asked. Allison opened the closet door.
"In, both of you. NOW."
Scott and I cram into the small coat closet. Scott had his back to the coats and I had mine to the door. The only light was coming from the small cracks in the shoulders of the door. Allison greated her father then walked out of the room saying how she was just hanging up her coat. "What are you doing?" I ask, trying to keep my back off of the door so it wouldn't open.
"Nothing."
My eyes move down Scott's body and then back to his eyes. "Part of you is doing something."
"Oh. Sorry."
"Well stop."
"I.. Kinda don't have control over that."
"Okay. Well.. uhh. I'll- I'll turn around." I say stepping to the side so I could do a 180.
"Yeah, totally." He pauses for a second. "Caitlin."
"Hmm?"
"That's so much worse." I bit down on my tongue holding back a laugh. I turn back around, hoping it wouldn't be too weird. But it wasn't. For a second Scott leaned down, closer to my lips, but before anything happened Allison opened the closet door. I jump back, clearing my throat.
"So what was the thing you needed to show us?" I ask, not really sure what to say.
She gave me a puzzled look. "Right, umm. This. You see this map?" She said as we walked around the side of the desk. "Last time we were in here talking, my dad put a book over it. There was something about the way he did it. It was like he was trying to cover it."
"I don't see anything. Scott?"
"Me neither."
"You can't unless you use this." Allison holds up the UV light from before. She turned it on and went over the map. "My father has been tracking and marking everything. Cora and Boyd at the bank, the office in the penthouse above us, All of the dead bodies. He has a symbol for where someone was taken, and then a different mark for where the bodies are found, see? But here's the scary part. There have been six sacrifices, right? There are 12 makings on the map."
"What?"
"What does that even mean?"
"Did your dad find other bodies and not tell anyone?"
"I don't think so. I think he knows where the body is going to be found. So one of these six locations, one of these is where Deaton could end up. I mean it doesn't tell us where he's being kept right now, but-"
"But it's close to figuring it out." Scott took out his phone and took a picture of the map. The elevator ringed again. Scott and I dive under the desk and Allison rushes back to her room. As soon as Allison's father starts conversation with Allison Scott and I sneak out of the house all together.
When we get out of the building, Scott stops. "What?"
"That thing you needed to talk about. Can we talk after we save Deaton?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because if I wait any longer someone might kill you over it." I say my voice cracking.
Scott freezes, "Okay. I'm all ears."
"The other day. When we were at the motel-"
"Cait, you know I was psyched out. Whatever I said forget it."
"No. Because what you said goes along with my visions."
"Okay. Then what did I say?"
"You were asking about the color of your eyes. And why they were red."
"Cait. I was crazy the other day. I mean I almost light myself on fire."
"But you weren't. It's real Scott. And it's powerful. And dangerous. And like I said someone could kill you over it. They call it the true alpha."
"The true what now?"
"The true Alpha. It's rare but every 100 years or so a beta can become an Alpha. Simply by rising through the ranks without harming or killing anyone. They rise on pure force of will. The goodness in their heart. Someone who rises purely on strength of character, and virtue. Someone like you Scott. That's why Derek asked why I was right about you. You were coming closer to being one everyday. Deucalion was never after Derek. He was after you. The Most powerful type of Alpha to live."
"How do you know?"
"I saw it. You even noticed that I tend to leave stuff out from my visions. Most of the things I leave out are you with red eyes. That's what me and Allison were talking about on the bus. Why I asked if the night at mall, your eyes turned red. And Scott she said yes. So if you don't wan to believe whatever is going on in my head, believe Allison. People would kill you for the power you're gaining. Hunters will kill to stop you from gaining it."
Scott takes a shaky breath in, "Anything else?"
"Well not on you becoming an Alpha but,"
"Go ahead."
" Aiden jumped me in the halls."
"Is that why your leg was bleeding?" I nod.
"He brought me to Deucalion. And they told me to trust the currents. But I don't know what it means."
He closes his eyes. "Cait, were you afraid I was going to join the Alphas? Is that why you didn't tell me?"
"Maybe. Maybe I just didn't want you to get hurt."
"Caitlin, Look at me." I do as he says. Slowly he grabs my wrist and brings my hand over his heart. "See if I'm Lying." I nod. "I would never help anyone who killed their own pack. Someone as monsters as Deucalion." He paused, "Now tell me this, did my heart jump?"
"No."
"So then you know I'm not lying." I smile tucking my lips into my mouth.
"We should call Stiles. Tell him what Allison told us." I say removing my hand.
"Yeah. Yeah okay. Can we leave out the whole red eye thing?"
"If that's what you want."
Scott called Stiles and put him on speaker as the two of us climbed onto his bike. "Stiles hey. Allison showed us a map that had all the locations of the sacrifices that her Dad was creating. Ignore the Dad thing for a minute, Deaton has to be at one of the six locations, but they're all over town. I don't think Cait and I can get there fast enough."
"Well we might not have to. Danny was doing a project on something for Mr. Harris's physics class, and I think it actually means something."
"What project?" I ask, placing my head on Scott's shoulder so I could be heard.
"Something on Telluric Currents."
"Did you say currents?"
"Yeah. Cait do you know something?"
"Someone told me to trust the currents. Meet us at the clinic."
Scott hangs up the phone. I wrap my hands around his waist and we take off. We get to the clinic before anyone else arrives. I sent a text to Lottie saying to meet us here. Without the twins. In about 15 minutes all of us are standing around Deatons operating table. (all of us means, Lydia, Stiles, Scott, Lottie, Cora and myself.)
"Okay but what does this have to do with finding Deatong?" Cora asked, her voice rushes seeing as the sun was setting.
"Because it's not just homework, okay? It's a project on geomagnetic fields. They flow through the earth. They can even be affected by lunar phases, all right? Stiles said, flipping through the pages of work.
"Hey look at this. It's a note from mr. Harris." I point out the red letters scribbled across the page.
"I strongly advise you to choose another subject. The ideas here, while innovative and thoughtful, border on pseudo-science. Not suitable for class." Lydia reads.
"Harris wasn't just a sacrifice." Lottie notes.
"He knew something." Scott finished for her.
"Yeah. Now look at this." Stiles unfolds a paper, "Allison's dad wasn't the only one who had a map. Danny had one too. Danny marked all the telluric currents, okay? Now the weird thing about Beacon hills is that it is actually a beacon. You wouldn't believe how much energy flowing through the earth is around this town."
"Stiles, look they match." Scott sasy laying down the map we took from Allison. "All right there's three places, right? Where they are kidnapped." Scot circles a part of the map, " The place their body is found." He circles a different area.
"Scott, look. That's right on the telluric current." I say pointing out the blue line.
"So maybe where he is sacrificed is somewhere in between." Lottie suggests as Stiles takes the pen from Scott's hand.
"You said there were six more bodies to be found. Deaton's one of them. Got to be somewhere in between right?" Stiles went to draw something but Cora stopped him, dragging his hand across the map.
"He's in the vault. He's in the same vault."
We started to gather the pages of Danny's work but Lydia stopped us. "Guys hold on."
"Lydia we don't have time." Lottie said, turning her head.
"It's Boyd. The Plan didn't work, they cut the power." Cora said looking up from her phone.
"It's just like he said." I whisper to myself.
"Go me and Cait will get Deaton. Go save Derek." Scott says, making a choice. A choice to save us all.
"Scott what about us?" Stiles asked.
"Cora can get there fast. GO!" Scott grabs my hand and pulls me out of the clinic.
Scott and I arrive at the bank. When we get to the vault Deaton is hanging from the ceiling. His hands tied above his head. His feet were bare and his clothes soaked in sweat. Scott ran right into the room but was stopped by a mountain ash barrier. "Caitln can you break it?" I go to break the circle but the barrier stops my hand. "Cait?"
"I don't know what's happening."
"Try it again." I do but the same thing happens. "Oay. Okay. Uhh step to the side." I do as he says. Scott repotions his feet like he was about to start a sprint. He places one hand on the barrier, making it light blue. He does the same with his other hand as he tries to forces himself across it. The blue light gets bigger as he pushes further into the ring of ash. Then I see it. His eyes turn gold, but the father he pushes the redder they become, till the whole iris of his eye is a bright red. But it doesn't work. The barrier still pushed him back.
"Scott!" I run to his side. He moans a bit as he sits up.
"Scott, Cait. Let me give it a shot." The sheriff says from behind us as he takes out his gun. The bullet immediately cuts the rope holding Deaton up.
My body freezes up as a vision clouds my mind. Derek on the floor full of water, the Alpha twins holding his claws out. Kali grabs Boyd from the floor, as Derek fights the twins hold. The long twoed Alpha moves Boyd's body so he lands on Derek's claws. Blood starts to spill darkening his shirt. Boyd chokes, lowering his head to look Derek in the eyes. The twins and Kali walk away. Kali yells something but I couldn't hear it. I watch as Derek turns human, removing his claws from Boyd. "It's okay." Boyd says as Derek looks at the wounds.
"No. No it's not." Derek said, tears rolling down his face. "That's not."
"It's okay Derek." Boyd repeats.
"I'm- I'm sorry." Derek cries.
"The full moon. That feeling... It was worth it. There's a lunar eclipse. I always wondered what.. What that felt like for us. For one of us.." Boyd's body falls over into the water.
"CAITLIN!" Scott yelled snapping me out of what I was seeing. I was lying on the floor, my head in Scott's lap as he kneeled over me. "You saw something that made you cry?"
"Boyd. The Alpha forces Derek to kill him." I say, blinking away a few tears. "Scott they- they didn't give him a choice."
"I know. No matter what Derek says, he loves his pack and he would never hurt them." Scott pulled my body up so I could hug him. A few more tears leave my eyes, wetting his shirt. "Maybe we can still stop it." I nod into his shoulder.
After a minute or so I pull back, wiping away the last little tears. The sheriff beakes the mountain ash barrier and the three of us help Deaton to sit against a set of bars in the vault. "Sheriff?"
"Yes Caitlin?"
"How'd you find us?"
"The vials in the clinic. With the celtic symbols on 'em? I knew that one looked familiar." The Sheriff pointed to the bank symbol in the center of the vault.
"Sheriff, thank you for being one Hell of a Detective." Deaton breaths out.
"You bet. Let's get you an ambulance." The sheriff left the vault and deaton leaned closer to Scott and I.
"Scott your eyes. They were..."
"Let me guess, red?"
"Yes, how did you know?" Scott pointed to me.
I shrug, "Sorry for taking your thunder, but uhh I didn't really want Scott to die if he didn't know about it soo."
"I think that's a fair reason. Any questions on it?"
"On me? No. On Cait. Just one. Why wasn't she able to break the mountain ash?"
"Has she recently controlled a flame she did not create?"
"Yeah the other night, at Motel Hell. Scott almost lit all of us on fire, but before the flames could do anything, I stopped them. Making them disappear."
"That's why. Every other element she had to pull from around her, but fire Caitlin always made. Once she no longer was the cause of the fire, she was considered supertunaturel by DNA."
"Like a banshee when they learn to scream?" I asked.
"Precisely."
"Okay one last question, just came to my mind. How long did the two of you know this would happen to me?" Scott asked. "How long did you think I would be a- a true Alpha?"
"I believed it as soon as I knew you were bit. I believed." Deaton told his protégée.
"And Cait?"
"The moment I met you. The vision's just proved it."
"But remember Scott. Deucalion isn't after Derek. He's after you."
