Bus Ride Headed For Hell
Chapter Five : Bus Ride Headed For Hell
"About this." I say holding up the bug for my sisters to see.
"Cait..."
"Chloe. Why did you do it?"
"You and Lottie were lying. Lydia was off the rails, Allison had just lost her mother, and well Scott and Stiles were never close with us. We wanted to know what was happening."
"How long have you known, Evlynn?" I asked my jaw tightening.
"Since Lydia's birthday." She says closing the book she was reading.
"MARCH! The two of you have known about all of this since March!"
"How much do the two of you know?" Scott asked leaning on the door frame.
"We know that your eyes turn yellow and you and Isaac grow claws. We know our sister can set herself on fire. We know Derek is an Alpha. And that someone named Peter came back from the dead. We know about not normal nights out, where You Cait and Isaac go into the woods and have a mix of fight night and train night." Evlynn says.
"Scott, they know enough to get themselves killed."
"I know, Cait." He pauses taking a few steps into the room. "Why do you guys want to know?"
"Just tell us everything."
Third Person Pov
Scott McCall sat at the desk in his bedroom. The storm got worse outside, as he thought over the conversation he had with three of the Holmes. Him and Caitlin found out that the twins have been following them around for months. They even knew Jackson was the kanima, and that Lottie and Stiles were the only humans in the friend group, even Allison was really a hunter. They were putting themselves at risk because they felt ignored.
Scott had shown them what he looked like as a werewolf and Cait had shown off her powers. He didn't want to think about what the rest of the night was going to be like for the four Holmes siblings.
A strike of lightning brought the McCall out of his thoughts. He tried to continue his chemistry homework. A knock at the door that makes Scott turn his head. "Come in Mom." Scott says. The door opens. In the door stood Isaac Lahey. His hair was wet from the rain, and his eyes sunken as if he had been crying. He was holding a large duffle bag in his left hand.
"I-I was wondering if I could ask you a favor. I mean I would ask Cait, but uhh her parents have their hands full kids already."
First Person POV~Caitlin Roads/Holmes
Coach blew his whistle, "Back in your seat." He yelled. Me and Lottie were turned around in our seat, facing Scott and Stiles. Scott's head was against the window and Stiles was holding an iPad. The California deserts rolled by as we drove to the cross country meet. "Scott keep your eyes open." I tell him as he starts to drift to sleep.
"Yo! Scotty?" Stiles snaps his fingers, "You still with me?"
"Yeah, sorry. Uhh what's the word?"
Stiles repeats the PSAT prep word, "Anachronism."
"Something that exists out of its normal time." Scott says gripping the back of my seat.
"Nice. Okay next word. Incongruous." Lottie reads after Stiles passed her the Ipad.
"Umm can you use it in a sentence?"
"Yeah sure. It's completely incongruous that the four of us are sitting on a bus right now, on our way to some stuiped cross-country meet after what just happened. Incongruous."
"Out of place, ridiculous, absurd."
"Nice. OKay next word." I take the iPad from Lottie, "Recipient."
"A person or thing that receives or is awarded something."
"Yeah." I hand the iPad back to Stiles.
"Okay next word, um. Darach. Darach, It's a noun." Me and Scott glare at him. "We have to talk about it sometime, okay? And we're gonna be stuck in this thigh for like five hours, so why not?" Scott places his head back on the window. I take his hand in mine so he doesn't think about the pain. "Next word intransigent."
"Stubborn, obstinate." The bus hits a bump in the road and Scott grabs his side.
"Scott. Look at me! Scott!" I tilted his chin up so he was looking into my eyes. "We shouldn't have come. I knew we shouldn't have come. At least tell me you're healing."
"We had to come, there's safety in numbers."
"Yeah well there's also death in numbers, okay? It's called a massacre- or a bloodbath, or carnage." My sister sasy, her chin placed on the back of the seat.
"Or a slaughter, butchery, wow that's- " Stiles say. Scott groans.
"No that's it. I'm telling Coach." I say.
"No. Cait. I- I'm fine."
"Scott you don't look fine. Cait's right are you even healing?" Stiles scolds his best friend.
"Scott just let us see it." Lottie begs, reaching her hand over the seat.
Scott pulls back, "I'm okay."
"Just let us see it." I repeat.
"Okay." Scott pulls up his shirt to reveal the harsh cut. It was still bloody and even the scabided was deep into his skin. It didn't look like he was healing at all. Hell it didn't even look like the cut was cleaned.
"Scott." Lottie breath out.
"I know it's bad, but it's only because they're from an alpha. It'll take longer to heal."
"Scott, nothing should take this long to heal."
"Cait's right. If it's just because it takes longer why are Boyd and Isaac fine?" Lottie asked.
"I can't believe he's dead. I can't believe Derek's dead." Scott says leaning his head on the window.
"No. NO, he's not dead." I say, a struggle in my voice.
"How do you know?" Scott asked, looking at me.
"Because, then either you, Boyd or Isaac would have red eyes, all three of you still betas. He can't be dead."
"Okay Scott look at me just stay awake. Okay, uhh, tell about Isaac moving in with you." I say, hoping to take his mind off last night.
"Derek kicked him. He wouldn't say why." Scott beats out. "He just said they would be going after them. I went before I was meant to. I was hoping to stop the violence. But Derek knew me too well. He was waiting for me to show up. He just wanted to hurt them. All of them." So much for ignoring last night. Scott groaned again.
"Scott, come on stay awake." Lottie said, turning his head to face her.
Coach blew his whistle again. "Two of you back in your seats! Jared, again, car sick? Every ti- How do you even get on the bus? Look at me. Wait no don't look at me look at the horizon." Coach was yelling at a kid trying not to throw up.
"Stiles I think he's getting worse. " I say taking Scott's hand again.
"McCall not you two!" Coach yelled back at us.
"Uuh, no Coach I'm fine."
"Scott you're bleeding again." Lottie pointed out as the red covered his white shirt.
Scott opened his mouth to say something but Stiles topped him, "No. Don't you dare say it's just taking longer to heal, okay? Because I'm 99% sure that still bleeding means not healing. Like at all."
"He's listening." Scott says nodding to Ethan.
"Is he gonna do something?" Stiles asked.
"Not in front of this many people."
"What Isaac and Boyd, I mean those two are time bombs." I say.
"No they won't not here."
"But what if they do?" Lottie asked, her voice getting low.
"Yeah could we even stop them?" Stiles asked, biting down on his lower lip.
"If I have to."
My mind drifts to the story's Scott told us. Derek claimed that the alphas were one floor above Allison in the apartment complex. I close my eyes to a set of images washing over my vision. "So kill them first. That's the plan?" Scott asked Derek and his pack.
"They won't even see it coming." Boyd tells his almost friend.
"Why is the default plan always murder? Just once can someone come up with something that doesn't involve killing everyone?"
"My god, why is Caitlin right?" Derek said, placing his hand over his mouth.
"What does Cait have to do with any of this?" Scott asked, suddenly defensive.
"Nothing."
"Do you ever get tired of being so moral, Scott?" Peter asked the beta. The scene changes to Peter and Derek standing by a tree.
"Us my dear nephew are sirovers. Let Scott live in his little moral world. Let him deal with the black and white." Peter says moving closer to Derek.
"I'm not letting him live in the black and white alone. You know why? Because one day his his will turn red, not by murder, but by force of will. That's why this damn Alpha pack is here. They want Scott. Not me." The images change again.
Allison was sitting of the roof of an abandoned building. She was shooting arrows through a small hole. Scott looked up at her, full wolf, everyone else was still fighting, but for a second. Scott's eyes went red.
"Caitlin!" My sister shook me out of my visions as the blues jolted to a stop. Scott starts to stand in his seat.
"Scott? Where are you going?
"Boyd, he's gonna do something."
"What? how do you know?" Stiles asked moving in his seat in case Scott need to get out.
"Look at his hand." Scott tell the three of us. We all do as he says. Boyd was curling his claw covered hand around the seat. A pain rings through my head as a new vision appears.
Scott and Deucalion stood in an elevator. Scott had his claws out. "Come on Scott, put those away. I'd have to be blind, deaf, and quadriplegic for you to be a real threat. Or maybe you should take a chance. Your heartbeat's steady, you might be afraid of me, but you're controlling it. Maybe you'd actually.." Deucalion paused as if to think of a word. "Rise to the occasion, become an alpha, by killing one."
"I'm not like you." Scott put his claws away. "I don't have to kill people."
"Hmm. Not yet. But situations come about, situations where you realize the only way to protect one person is to kill another."
"You want to threaten me? Is that why your here?"
"No. I live here."
"What?"
"I live here." Deucalion sasy louder. "It's a great building"
"CAITY! CAITLIN!" Stiles pulled me from the vision.
"What just happened?"
"Uhh, you gasped for air and then zoned out. Okay these visions of your ar going crazy today. What's up with that?"
"I wish I knew Stiles." I looked around, Scott was halfway down the aisle going after Boyd. His jacket, the only thing coving up the fact he was bleeding so bad it stained his shirt. I think about Scott and Mine phone call the other night.
"How do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved?" That was all I could remember but it stood out. Scott still pushed forward gripping every seat as if it was the only thing holding him up.
Sctt finally getting to Boyd holding his arm holding Boyd's claws to the seat. Non of us could hear what they were saying but I'm sure Ethan could. Boyd fights but Isaac grabs his shirt. My phone vibrates in my pocket.
Isaac Lahey
Why is Scott still hurt? I can practically smell the blood on his shirt.
We don't know. But If anything he's getting worse.
We need to find a way to stop this bus.
Scott struggles out of his seat and stumbles back to the rest of us. "Crisis Averted?" Stiles asked standing so Scott could sit by the window.
"Mm-hmm."
"Good because we have two new problems. Ethan keeps checking his phone like every five minutes."
"Stiles, what's the other problem?"
"Cait keeps having those fortune telling visions, like a lot of them. And at this point it looks like it's physically hurting her. I mean as soon as you left she had one, and while it was happening she could barely breathe."
"Cait why didn't you tell us?" Scott asked, looking to me.
"I don't know what happens when I have one of my visions besides, you're what's important right now."
Scott shakes his head. "I'm fine. What about this whole Ethan thing?"
"It's like he's waiting for something, Like a message or signal of some kind." Lootie sasy looking back at one of the Alpha twins.
"Yeah it's something evil, I can tell. I have a very perceptive eye for evil, but you three knew that." Stiles adds.
"I don't like him sitting with Danny." Scott said, turning to look at Ethan instead of me.
"None of us do." I turn to look at the twin myself.
Stiles pulls out his phone. "What the hell are you doing?" Lottie asked, leaning back over the seat.
"I'm gonna see what he's waiting for."
"How?"
"I'm gonna ask." Just then Danny digs into his pocket and pulls out his phone. He looks back at the four of us, shaking his head and mouthing the word 'no' Stiles starts to text bomb the goalie. Sending message after message. Danny starts to ignore it, but Ethan picks up. Ethan turns his head to face the four of us. Stiles, Scott and Lottie duck into the seats, but I just smile and wave. Oddly enough he smiles back before facing the front of the bus once more.
"Just gonna tell you three that wasn't subtle at all."
"Thanks for the insight, Cait." Stiles mumbled as they sit up. Stiles gets a text. 'Someone close to Ethan is sick. MIght not make it through the night.'
"Ennis?" Scott asked, passing me the phone.
"So does that mean he's uhh not dead?" Lottie asked.
"Not yet." Stiles sasy taking his phone back
The four of us sat silent for a few minutes, the only sound we heard was honking horns. I forced my eyes to stay open so I didn't have another vision.
"Jared I'm warning you, I'm an empathetic vomiter. If you throw up I'm gonna throw up right back on you. And it will be profoundly disgusting." Coach yelled at the kid from before. "Now the rest of you don't think we are gonna miss this meet because of a slight traffic jam, a minor tornado warning, or Jared. We are gonna make this thing. Nothing is gonna stop us. Stilinski put your hand down."
"You know there's like a food exit about a half a mile up. I don't know if we stop and then maybe-"
"We're not gonna stop."
"Scott? Look at me, come one Scott, keep your eyes open." I beg.
"Okay but of we stop-"
"Stilinski!" Coach blows his whistle. "SHUT IT! Really it's a little bus! Stop asking me questions!"
"Scott. Damn it Scott keep your eyes open." Lottie said as Stiles leaned back in his seat.
"I hate him."
"We all do, but right now. Scott." I remind Stiles.
"Right. Scott, did you call Deaton?"
"I'm only getting his voice mail."
"That's it I'm calling Evlynn." Lottie said, taking out her phone.
"How is she gonna help, I mean she's still in beacon hills, like four behind us." I tell my sister.
"Know shes not, Her Chloe Lydia and Allison have been following us this whole bus ride. Pathetic." Stiles adds as Lottie calls our Sister.
"Oh Hey, Char. Uhh we were just about to head into a movie."
"Evlynn shut up. Up only call me Char when you are trying to lie, okay so put me on speaker."
"Yeah, Okay."
"Okay look Scott's still hurt."
"What do you mean Still. He's not healing?" Allison's voice comes through the other end.
"No he's not healing. I think he's getting worse. I mean the blood is turning black." I say, looking at the blood stained shirt.
"What's wrong with him?" Chloe asked, her voice calm.
"What's wrong with him I don't- Do I have a PhD in Lycanthropy? How are we supposed to know that?" Stiles yells at the phone.
"You need to get him off the bus." Allison said.
"And take him where. A hospital?" Lydia asked.
"If he's dying then yeah." I say, my voice irritated.
"Stiles there is a rest stop about a mile up. Tell Coach to pull over."
"Allson you don't think we've tried?"
"Well then reason with him."
"Reason? Allison, have you met the guy." Stiles said his voice now agitated as well.
"Just try something." Lottie hangs up the phone.
"You heard the girl Stiles. Go dance with the king of monsters." I say as Stiles gets up from his set.
"Coach it's five minutes for a bathroom break, okay? We've been on this thing for like three hours-" Coach just blows a whistle in Stiles face. "It's 60 miles to the next rest stop-" A second whistle. "Being cooped up for hours is not good-" A third whistle. "You know our bladders aren't exactly-" A fourth whistle. "Coach." At this point Coach is blowing his whistle after every word Stiles said. "LET ME TALK!" Stiles yells. Coach laughs and blows the whistle again, "Every time-" This time coach holds out the whistle.
"Get back in your seat Stilinski!"
"OKAY!" Stiles yells. He turns to sit back down with us but ends up taking a seat next to Jared. I couldn't hear what Stiles said but next thing I know I was gagging back flames from who bad the bus smelled seeing as Stiles got Jared to throw up.
Coach pulled over at the rest Stop as I helped Scott off the bus. I was lottery holding back flames from the smells. I don't even want to know what it was like for the werewolves on the bus. "JARED YOU SUCK!" Coach yelled out from the window. "Hey can somebody grab a mop, or just a new bus."
Allison and Lydia caught up with us. The right side of Scott's shirt was now a crisone red, covered in blood. We lowered Scott to the floor of the men's bathroom, as soon as he hit the ground he winced. Allison lifted the shirt to reveal the claw marks that were now surrounded by black veins. "Oh my god. Why didn't you tell us?"
"Sorry." Scott exhales. I grabbed onto his hand, but I think at this point it was more for my own comfort not his.
"Okay just give us a second okay." Allison stands up. She was yelling something out of fear but I blocked it out.
"Scott. Come one, I need you to stay awake."
"Cait, I'm just so tired."
"No. NO, you need to stay awake just a little longer." He rested his head on my shoulder.
"You never hurt me Cait."
"Don't talk like you're dying." I said fighting back tears.
"It hurts."
"I know. I know okay" My voice cracks, "Please Scott, you're destined for great things if you just hold out hope." A few tears fall.
"Tell me about these great things." He said, whispering so he could get the words out.
"You save beacon hills, more times than anyone can count."
He laughs, "I'm no hero."
"Yes you are. I mean you've saved me."
"You saved me too."
"No. No. Scott please, stay awake."
"Caitlin. Take off his shirt, we think we know who to save him." Allison tells me as she starts to rummages with something Lydia gave her. I nod and gulp down a wade of spit. Slowly I slip my hands under Scott's shirt bringing it over his head.
"You know for someone whose never had Sex, you're weirdly good at that." Scott jokes, wincing when he laughs.
"He's gonna need a new shirt where's his bag?" Allison asked as she straddled Scott.
"Uhh, I'll get it. I hate needles anyway, so-"
"Me and Lydia will come with." Lottie rushes out as her, Lydia, and Stiles leave the bathroom.
"Allison please tell me you know what you're doing."
"Yeah, My father taught me. Just make sure he stays awake."
"Allison what if the bus leaves?"
"Stiles will make sure it doesn't"
"Okay." I turn Scott's head so he's facing me. "Scott. Hey can you hear me? Please say something.
"I'm still Tired Cait."
"Say something over than that."
"How about thank you."
"For what."
"Always being there."
"No, No. Scott look at me, look at me."
"I'm trying." Allison says to herself.
"Scott. Come one say something."
"Cait you remember the night at the dance when we took down Peter?"
"Yeah?"
"I don't think I told you how nice you looked. Or even just said thank you for chasing me through the wood, in a dress and heels."
"My hands won't stop shaking." Allison tells the invisible force. I put my hands over Allison's.
"Hey. It's okay, do you want me to thread it?" She just nods as I take the needle and string threatening them in one go.
"I don't think I ever thanked you for things like that either." Scott said in my ear.
"Things like what? Scott, stay awake." I nod at Allison telling her she can start stitching Scott up.
"Things, like making people feel better about themselves."
"Scott, stay with me, come one stay with me. SCOTT!" his eyes started to close as tears fell from mine. "SCOTT!" I cry out this time as Allison finished the last stitch. He gasps abruptly sitting up and removing his head from my shoulder.
"It's my fault."
"Scott, Look at me." At this point Allison didn't matter, "It's not your fault. And you know how I know that. Because I know you. I know you would never let anyone get hurt." Scott looked down at his now stitched wound.
"Did you do that?"
"Allison did."
He turned to look at Allison, "Nice."
"Can you stand?" She asked. He groans a bit and Allison and I help him from the floor. "Here put this one." Allison hands him a shirt.
I take his arm and place it over my shoulder, Allison does the same with his other arm. Evlynn comes running up to the three of us as soon as we step outside. "Scott please tell me you're going to be okay."
"Yeah where's Stiles and your sisters?"
"Trying to stall Coach. Allison we still don't have gas."
"Then we take the bus."
"And leave the car here, Lydia's gonna be pissed."
"Yeah, I know but. We need to stay with him." Evlynn nods, taking Scott's bag from me.
The four of us walk closer to the bus. Lottie and Stiles come running up to us. "Where's Chloe?" I ask, sister mode on high alert.
"Trying to break up a fight. He went after him. I mean I told him what was happening to Scott and he just went after him."
"Who Boyd?" Scot asked as we picked up the place. We walk into the circle of students. In the middle was Isaac giving Ethan quite a beating. There was blood all over his mouth and he wouldn't fight back.
"Isaac! Isaac!" Coach yelled but Isaac didn't care. Chloe tried to break them up, but a human couldn't stop a werewolf.
Scott dropped from my shoulders. "ISAAC!" Isaac immediately stopped, looking at Scott. It was happening, Scott was becoming a true apex predator. Danny ran over to Ethan who was still on the ground. My breath hitched as everyone looked to see the only person who could get Isaac to stop was Scott McCall. Ethan gave me a knowing look, almost begging me to try and fight it. Deucalion's pack only saw Derek as a befitf, it was always Scott that they were after.
When we got back on the bus Coach started to question the addition of four new members. "You four weren't here were you?"
"Uhh now our car broke down." Chloe argued.
"Why is that my problem?"
"Coach they are with us." I say standing from my seat. "I mean they're Lottie and My sisters and they were following us to the meet."
"Whatever."
The only difference in seats was that now Stiles and Lottie were sitting together and I was sitting with Scott. Allison and Lydia were in the seat across from me and, our twins were next to Lottie. I leaned over the aisle. "Allison?"
"What?"
"Last night. Scott said you went to the abandoned mall. Were Scott's eyes red?"
"Yeah, how did you know about that?"
"It's happening."
"Cait, what's happening?" Shit I was hoping she didn't hear me.
I look over to Ethan, "Ask your Dad what a true Alpha is. Because that's what's happening."
I lean back to my seat placing my head on Scott's shoulder. "You know, if Derek was even dead. It's not your fault."
He put his arm around me so I wasn't leaning on it, "Maybe." He paused, "Hey Cait?"
"Yeah?"
"When Derek came up with his kill everyone plan, he asked why you were right?"
"I think I need a bit more detail..."
"It seemed like he was asking, why you were right.. About me?"
"I told him a myth, he keeps saying it's not true, but I think deep down it scares him."
"What myth?"
"That's a different story. Right now I want to try to figure out a few visions"
