Chapter 43

I HAVE SCHOOL ON MONDAY BITCH IM NOT READY

------------------

The day after Jonathan had come over to take care of Evan was the day Evan felt worse. He woke up in excruciating pain and could barely lift his head up, he felt truly miserable.

In fact, he didn't even bother to try getting out of bed, instead he just took the covers and pulled them over his face so if Craig came in, he would know to go away.

His phone lay untouched on his bedside table, since he just screwed his eyes shut in hopes of getting back to sleep so the pain wouldn't bother him.

He heard Craig's door open, his footsteps down the hall and down the stairs, and finally heard the front door open and close. Evan waited a few minutes before letting out a loud groan of pain, hoping it would deplete his energy enough so he would fall asleep.

-------------------

"Are you kidding me? You lost the fucking map? How the hell did you manage to do that?" He snarled at his business partner, who was cowering in the passenger seat.

"It just flew out the window, like I told you!" He said, fear lacing his voice.

"Bullshit! You're trying to protect them, aren't you? You're working for the enemy!"

"No, I'm not! I swear!"

"Yes you are, you want to protect those humans and their guardians. The demon and whatever the fuck the other one is."

"Why would I do that? Do you see me getting an invite to Hell anytime soon?"

"That's your motivation! You're just being a spy so that you can get into-"

"Will you shut up, already? I'm pretty sure you missed the exit with all your yelling!"

-----------------

It had been two days since Jonathan visited Evan and he all of a sudden felt like his normal self, sarcastic and bitter with an undertone of rage.

He pounded on Craig's door. "Wake up, loser, we've got places to be!" He yelled through the closed door as he walked into the bathroom to fix his hair.

Craig groggily exited his room. "Guess you're feeling better."

"Better? Bitch, it's like nothing even happened! I'm on top of the fucking world right now!"

"Yeah, you're definitely better." Craig mumbled under his breath as Evan went back into his room to look for his black jacket that Jonathan had brought back when he came to check on him.

---------------

The guys were a bit late, so that left Jonathan and Tyler alone together on the sidewalk.

"You remember what I said yesterday, right? I won't tell, but you better make sure you don't ignore Evan. If I see so much as a hint of ignoring, I'm telling, Jonathan. No questions asked." Tyler warned, casting a sideways glare at his friend.

"I know, Tyler! Trust me, everything is gonna be fine, I'm gonna spend plenty of time with Evan, Luke is just a side thing. It's not serious." Jonathan reassured Tyler, while also reassuring himself, he was just having a bit of fun, right? Evan didn't have to know.

"You say that now, but what happens when it is, huh? What happens when things really do get serious with Luke? I don't want to get caught in the middle of this, Jonathan."

"And you won't! I'll talk to Evan, get you a date with Craig, then you two can live happily ever after and you won't have to worry about a thing."

"What the hell has gotten into you lately? I mean, cheating on your boyfriend, that cocky grin, the fucking confidence boost?"

"I don't know, maybe Evan has just rubbed off on me."

"Yeah, but at least Evan has morals." Tyler retorted underneath his breath as he saw Evan and Craig approaching.

"Jonathan!" Evan said happily as he wrapped his arms around his boyfriend before pulling him in for a kiss. "I missed you." He mumbled against his lips.

"Aww, I missed you too." Jonathan replied, ignoring the look that Tyler had shot him.

Pulling away, he looked Evan up and down. "So, you're not sick anymore?"

Evan smiled. "Nope! I'm as healthy as the day we met."

"Finally! My daily dose of cheesy gay romance has returned!" David shouted as everyone else showed up to the spot.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Jonathan said as he pulled Evan a bit away. "I gotta talk to you about something."

"Alright." Evan said, following Jonathan as everyone else starting talking while they waited for them.

"Look Evan, I know that all of our friends know about, this, but I still want to keep it on the down low at school, okay? Nothing against you, I love being with you, but I'm just not ready." Jonathan said, keeping his voice low enough as he looked over to make sure their friends weren't listening in.

They weren't, but Tyler did glance over suspiciously.

Evan nodded. "Oh, okay, yeah that's fine, I'd never make you do something you don't want to do, or aren't ready for."

"Thanks for understanding, Ev, I really appreciate it."

"Hey no problem, seriously it's fine. Also, are you free tonight? Craig wanted to have a movie night and I thought maybe we could do something together."

"Oh, erm, I can't tonight. I have a family thing going on and I can't miss it, sorry. Maybe another time? Like, how about this weekend? We can the whole deal, dinner and a movie, or dinner and something else?" Jonathan offered.

"Yeah, sure, that'd be great! Does Saturday work for you? If not, then I'm free like all weekend long, or just free until the end of eternity."

"Oh yeah, Saturday is great, just text me the movie times."

"Oh! What movie do you want to see?"

"Anything you want, Ev. I'll pay for it."

"Then I'm paying for dinner."

"Ugh, fine, I know there's no arguing with you, I'll lose no matter what."

"Exactly."

Jonathan started walking away until Evan grabbed his arm and pulled him back, bringing him in for one more kiss.

"You guys are fucking goals! OTP for life!" David screamed as the couple pulled away from each other and returned to their friends.

-----------

A smile played on his lips as the boy next to him got closer and closer.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The movie played on his TV, but the action packed scenes in it were nothing but white noise.

Stop, stop, stop.

It happened so fast, one minute they were just looking at each other, the next their lips were locked in a kiss.

The boy's arms had snaked around his waist, holding him in place while also pushing him more against him.

Guilt pushed at the back of his head, but he didn't want to stop, what people said was true.

The things that are the worst for you always feel the best.

Suddenly he stopped, the face of his boyfriend playing through his head when he had lied to him earlier that day. Dread pooled at the bottom of his stomach as he pulled away.

"I just remembered, I have to be somewhere, but I'll text you later." It slipped off his tongue easily enough, a small lie mixed in with the truth.

You're gonna text him later, no matter how wrong it is.

"Alright, I'll see you later then, but that, that was really nice." The boy smiled at him, and he couldn't help but smile back.

"Yeah, yeah it was." He said, not regretting a single word.

--------------------------

Jonathan walked up the pathway to the house, nervous about what he was going to do.

Are you sure this is what you want?

He knocked on the wooden door, hearing a yell from inside as he waited for the door to open.

"Jonathan! What are you doing here? Evan said you had a family thing?" Craig said as he opened the door, his face red as if he had just been laughing.

"Oh, it ended, so I figured I would come over. Where's Evan? I need to talk to him about something." Jonathan had his hands in his pockets as he asked.

Craig leaned on the doorframe. "Oh, he's up in his room, something about wanting to judge idiotic teenagers in a TV show rather than laugh about other people's love life? You know, his usual anti-social shenanigans."

"Oh? So is everyone else here too?"

"Pretty much, but you can head upstairs and talk to Evan, just close the door behind you. Also, you know where his room is right? First door on the right." Craig said, pushing himself off of the doorway and proceeding back to the living room while Jonathan went up to Evan's room.

He knocked on the door. "Evan?"

Jonathan could hear shuffling from inside, then the door opened. "Jonathan? I thought you had a thing going on tonight?"

"Oh, I did, but I needed to talk to you."

"Yeah, sure, come on in." Evan stepped aside and opened his door a bit wider.

Inside of the room, there were several small stacks on the floor of various items amongst other things that were scattered around. Evan's laptop was on top of his desk chair, a paused TV show on the screen.

"Sorry about the mess, I was just reorganizing some stuff. I kind of do that when I'm bored." Evan said, closing the door and carefully navigating his way towards Jonathan. "So, what did you want to talk abo-"

"I love you."
