"Dude, where the hell have you been? It's bad that none of us know where Evan is, we can't have you missing too." Tyler said as the group walked to Brian's house, deciding to change up the atmosphere for once. Jonathan was just glad he didn't need to make up an excuse to avoid his own house.

"Wait, I thought Craig said Evan was just sick at home?" He played along, turning to Craig with a confused look.

"Nah, he cracked this morning and told us he doesn't know. They had an argument and Ev's avoiding him now." David cut in, contributing to the conversation.

"It's not my fault! He's the one who started it!" Craig countered, defending himself. Jonathan knew he was full of shit, because he had been with Evan for the past almost two days now.

"Yeah, sure. If that's what you need to tell yourself." Tyler said to Craig, turning back around.

Jonathan joined in as everyone laughed, straying to the back of the group as he felt his phone buzz in his pocket.

Checking to make sure his friends were occupied, he pulled out his phone, noticing that Evan had texted him.

Evan: Where are you? I woke up and your mom said you went to school

Jonathan: Brian's house, the guys and I are hanging out, they don't know about you

Evan: alright, have fun, talk to you later, I'm going back to sleep

Jonathan: Sounds good, see ya later

Putting his phone away, Jonathan followed his friends into Brian's house, greeting his parents as they proceeded to his room.

---------------

Craig kept finding himself glancing back at Jonathan, especially when he pulled back to check his phone. He also kept note that he made sure his phone was away before he caught up with the group. Something about him, was just suspicious.

"Jonathan, you never answered Tyler's question, where have you been all day?" Craig asked, trying to subtly interrogate him.

"Oh, my mom forgot I had a doctors appointment, so that's where I was." It was a casual answer, quick, but not too quick, but a small part of Craig wasn't buying it.

"And you didn't text us?" Lui pitched in, by now everyone's attention was on him.

"Like I said, my mom forgot and when I went to grab my phone when we were leaving I found that I hadn't actually charged it overnight so it was dead. I would've grabbed it and the charger but by then my mom was already freaking out." He said, using hand gestures as he recalled his tale.

Craig was dying to argue more, to keep questioning Jonathan until he told him where he really was, but his story convinced everyone else, so he gave up.

When Evan woke up for the second time that day, it was already dark outside, and he could tell that Jonathan hadn't come home yet. He grabbed for his phone sightlessly, not yet awake enough to lift himself up off his stomach.

As soon as he managed to get hold of his phone, he propped himself up on his elbows to read the messages he had received.

Jonathan: 2 Unread messages

Craig: 7 missed calls, 12 unread messages

Jonathan: Craig might be on to me, won't be home until late
Jonathan: Heading home, see you soon

Lazily putting the phone back where it was, he stayed laying down for no reason in particular, he just didn't feel like moving. Eventually he drifted off back to sleep.

-----

Evan was jolted awake by the sound of the door closing and the click of the light switch. He groaned in discomfort, turning his head to look at Jonathan as he slid off his shoes and tossed his backpack next to Evan's.

"Sorry, Ev, didn't mean to wake you." He said apologetically, sitting down at the foot of the bed, causing Evan to finally turn over, partially to hide his fading wings and partially because he wanted to look at his friend.

"It's fine, I've been sleeping all day anyway." He let out a yawn as he sat up, still facing his friend.

"How are you feeling? How's the arm? Stitches all good?" Jonathan asked, eyeing Evan's brace.

Evan nodded. "Yeah, it's all good, just a little sore from the numbing thing and the stitches, but it's fine. How is everyone? Did you have fun at Brian's?" Evan tried to keep the casual conversation going.

"They're good, it was a lot of fun. Although, I could tell that Craig was suspicious of me, he might think something is up." Jonathan warned, knowing how much Evan did not want to be found.

"You didn't say anything did you?" Evan leaned closer to Jonathan, speaking in a more serious tone.

"No, of course not, but apparently this morning Craig told the guys the gist of what happened." Jonathan answered, a small hint of fear in his voice of what Evan might do.

"W-what do you mean?" He couldn't help the small, fearful stutter from escaping his lips.

Jonathan, sensing his friends fear, tried to calm Evan down by quickly explaining. "No, don't worry! All he said was that you two got into a fight and now you're ignoring him! That's all, okay? It's fine."

Taking a deep breath, Evan nodded, trying to calm his breathing once more. "Alright, that's fine, it's fine, totally fine."

Jonathan scooted closer to his friend, wrapping an arm around him much like he had done earlier. "Ev, calm down, everything's gonna be fine, okay? All of this is gonna blow over, and you're gonna go back home, tell Craig off like usual and everything is gonna back to normal." Jonathan hoped that would calm him, Evan didn't anymore stress piled on top of him at the moment, he already spent like six hours getting stitches at the hospital, he's still upset about the fight and he just needs to relax, nothing else.

It worked, for a little bit at least, as Evan's breathing began to return to normal until his phone buzzed. On instinct, Evan reached for it, unlocking it to read the latest message he had received from Craig.

Craig: Evan, I swear if you do not come back home soon I will tell everyone what the fight was about, and then we'll be stuck with therapists instead of friends.

As soon as Evan read that his breathing became messed up again, and he felt tears jump into his eyes as he shut off the phone quickly, tossing it onto the floor. He clung onto Jonathan, who wrapped his arms around Evan quickly.

Evan, remembering his wings hadn't completely faded yet, pulled away, still crying.

"Hey, hey, Ev, look at me, look at me." Jonathan said comfortingly, lifting his friend's head up gently with his hand. "Just look at me, okay? It's gonna be fine, it's gonna be fine." He said with a small smile.

"P-promise?" Evan said, staring back into Jonathan's ocean blue eyes.

Jonathan nodded, his eyes still locked with Evan's dark brown ones. "Promise."

And after a few, silent moments, their lips met in a soft, sweet kiss.
