Chapter 2

--------------------

Evan blinked his eyes several times before he was fully awake, finding himself looking straight up at a cream colored ceiling. He sat up and looked around the room he was in. It seemed pretty standard. It was almost entirely painted a pale eggshell color, with signature black detailing as most things in Hell are.

There was a small cot-like bed, which he was currently sat on, a bedside cabinet with a small lamp placed on top of it, a small wooden round table a few feet away with two chairs placed on opposite sides of it, a small sketchbook with a pencil laying next to it.

Evan stood up and walked towards the table, now noticing there was a note laying on top of the sketchbook, Evan picked it up and read it.

Doctor said you might need this when you wake up, take it. It's yours. Evan read, putting the note down next to the book and pulling a chair out. If he was going to wait to find out what the hell is going on, then he might as well draw his nerves away, like he usually does.

----------------------

It had been about half an hour before a doctor came into Evan's room, looking surprised that he was awake.

"Evan, I see you're awake. How long ago did you wake up?" The doctor said, scribbling away at the clipboard he was carrying, the pen making an almost silent whoosh noise as it moved across the paper.

Evan glanced at the clock on the wall, which he noticed was there a bit after he had woken up. "Around half an hour ago." He replied, continuing on his halfway finished drawing, his nerves slowly rising as the he heard the doctor's pen glide against the paper on his clipboard once again, causing him to play with his lip ring in an attempt to calm his nerves.

Woosh. Click.

"Interesting, anything hurt? A headache maybe?" The doctor pressed, determined to find out why Evan had woken up so early, unlike the others who have been chosen. There had to be a reason.

Evan shook his head, putting his drawing down, allowing the doctor to look at what he was drawing. It was a drawing of a monster, extremely detailed as most of his drawings were, the doctor wrote something else down.

Evan felt like he was getting evaluated to go into a mental asylum, he shifted in his seat. "What about Craig? Is he ok?" Evan asked, remembering that Craig had passed out a few seconds before him at the ceremony.

"He's still asleep, it's only been an hour and a half since you were chosen so I don't understand why you're awake. The others usually take four hours..." The doctor trailed off, making Evan think that half of his statement was mostly just the doctor speaking out loud to himself as he wrote on his clipboard once more.

Why did doctors always have to have clipboards? Don't they understand how stressful it is?

"What's going to happen now?" Evan asked, his right leg bouncing up and down, wanting to get this over with. Home was sounding really nice right now, even if he always jumped at the chance to leave it, except to go to parties of course.

The doctor looked puzzled by Evan's question, as if he wasn't expecting the teen to ask him that. "Well I suppose we'll do a quick checkup and then give you your first treatment." The doctor finally replied, still refusing to make eye contact with the obviously confused teen.

Evan slowly nodded, processing the doctors words until he realized what he had said. "What treatment?" Evan asked, curious about what was going to happen to him and his friend as well as a bit scared. Why did Doctors have to make everything sound like a cliffhanger?

"Don't worry, we won't hurt you. We're just going to inject both you and your friend with a serum that will give you the knowledge you need to go to a human school." The doctor had finally stopped scribbling on his clipboard, letting it fall to his side, his pen tucked behind his ear.

Evan felt like a deer caught in headlights once he heard the doctor's reply, and the calm tone of his voice didn't help either.

"A human school? We're going to a human school?" Evan asked, not sure he had heard the doctor correctly. There was no way they were even considering going through with making two teenagers the Guardian demons. Those weren't the rules, you're supposed to at least be 24 to be chosen, that's when a demon's bloodline finishes developing, wouldn't it be dangerous to allow teenage demons on earth as Guardians? Couldn't something go wrong?

Correction, how many things could wrong? A hundred? A thousand?

"Yes, a human school. You two will be undercover as human teenagers in high school so you can keep an eye on the humans you're protecting." The doctor had reached the door, he was turning the handle when Evan spoke up once more.

"Why are you sending two teenage demons this year? We aren't 24 yet." Evan's curiosity had gotten the better of him and the words tumbled out of his mouth. What if this was his only opportunity to get the answers he wanted?

"Estherion has his reasons I'm sure. We just treat the patients. Trust me, if it were up to me, I would rather we have two older demons as well. Just don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine." The doctor left, the door shutting behind him, leaving Evan alone in silence. He turned back to his drawing, continuing to draw. Because he was so much more nervous now.

It was official then, Evan was now a Guardian. And as if that wasn't enough, he was also going to be attending human school. Which Evan had never been taught about, but if it was anything like demon school, he knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park.

Because there is a considerable amount of assholes in demon school.

----------------

Over the next half hour several doctors came into Evan's room and ran tests. Then they gave him the serum he would need in order to attend human school. Forty five minutes later he was ready to head back home and start packing for earth. Both him and Craig would leave in about a week, and he would have to come back to get treatment two more times before he was ready.

Basically, he had to do a lot of shit before he could leave.

Earth better be worth the trouble.
