Chapter 18

"You losers feel like riding in style?" Craig asked as he opened the school doors, spotting the limo immediately, a small crowd of kids gathered around it. "Unless, of course, you want to walk home."

"No way." Tyler said, smirking at Craig. "I'm riding in style."

"Good." Craig smirked. "So lets go. Excuse me! Important people walking through, quit breathing on the bloody windows! They cost more than your entire house! Do you even know what a pain in the ass this thing is to wash?! Shoo! All of you bitches, go, run!" He called, reaching the door that Sebastian was so kindly holding for him, cussing a few other kids out before climbing in.

"Are we dropping your friends off or going straight to the hospital, Craig?" The butler asked, the door halfway closed.

The demon glanced at his friends, who seemed to want the second option, so with a slight nod he answered his butler. "Straight to the hospital, Seb. And if a few bitches get in your way, I won't be pressing any charges."

Sebastian nodded, chuckling. "Of course, Mr. Thompson, we'll be there shortly."

The door closed, and everyone looked at Craig, who was eating what looked like a cookie from who knows where in the limo. "What? Have you all never been in a limo before?" He asked jokingly.

They nodded, their eyes now wandering all over the interior as the vehicle started to move. "You're kidding, right? Hardly anyone in this town has been in a limo." Brian said, his wide eyes staring at the window.

Craig rolled his eyes playfully, leaning back in his chair while the others explored. "I guess that makes us the coolest people in town."

Tyler nodded at Craig, smiling. "Yeah, I guess it does."

---------------------------------

Evan was inspecting a tray of hospital food when his friends walked in, he looked up from whatever the name of the dish was and smiled. "Hey guys." He said coolly, sitting up in his bed. "Long time no see."

Jonathan rushed forward, pulling Evan into a hug as tight as he dared to, worrying that he might injure his friend once more. "Ev, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen."

"Jonathan, are you sure you're letting him breathe?" Tyler said, picking up on Craig's habit of getting Evan out of situations involving physical contact.

Jonathan let go, a blush of embarrassment lightly appearing on his cheeks. "Sorry, again."

"It's fine." Evan said once again, picking up his fork and taking a piece of what appeared to be red gelatinous glass. Without thinking, he popped it into his mouth and swallowed, the food going down smoothly despite his lack of chewing, it tasted a bit like cherry human candy.

"Hey, what exactly is this?" He asked, using his fork to point at the cherry jelly glass, poking it a bit to watch it jiggle.

"That's Jell-O, or gelatin if you want to get technical, although I'm not sure if that name applies to hospital food." Marcel said, looking at Evan skeptically.

"It's amazing." Evan said, eating another bit as his friends laughed in amusement.

"I don't think I've ever heard someone so excited about Jell-O." David said, smiling with amusement.

"Well I don't think you understand how magic it is, it's literally edible glass with cherry flavoring! Do you know how many people would get hanged if they had this in the Salem witch trials? Too many, David, too many." Evan said seriously, jumping to the food's defense.

The guys laughed harder, while Craig agreed with his brother. "It does look like edible glass, it's kind of weird if you think about it. Like, what human thought it would be a good idea to eat glass but not really?" His words were on the edge of sounding inhuman, but he was unable to stop his demonic curiosity of human consumables.

"I have no idea, but I'm glad they did just so I could witness this exact moment." Tyler said, his laughter beginning to come to a close, as well as the others.

Half of Evan's tray was gone by the time they stopped, Evan continuing to eat the food with pleasure as his friends stared at him like an alien.

"How is it possible that you ride around in a limo and eat hospital food like a slice of pizza?" Brian asked, bewilderment in his voice.

Evan shrugged. "It's not that bad, you know, and I haven't eaten since lunch yesterday, so I don't think you have a right to judge me, Irish boy." He fired back calmly, finishing the food.

"Roasted." Marcel said underneath his breath, causing the group to burst into laughter once again, leaving a confused pair of demons to try and figure out the joke. Why did humans have to speak in tongues all the time?

Eventually the two decided to join in the last bit of laughter since it seemed like a safe option, although they could both only manage a couple believable chuckles each.

"So, anyway," Evan said, his dark brown eyes now staring directly at his fellow demon. "When do I get to go home? This place sucks, you know I hate the color white." Glancing around the room in disgust, he looked at Jonathan and gestured at his black hoodie that was lying on a chair with the rest of his stuff. Jonathan, understanding what Evan was saying, walked over and picked up the hoodie, handing it over to Evan, who slid it on happily as the dark fabric covered the white shirt he had been forced to wear.

"I'll go ask the lady-what are they called?-nurse! I'll go ask a nurse, or the nurse, however you put it....be right back." Craig said, slipping out of the room as Evan caught up with the rest of his friends, joking around as though he didn't have a concussion.

"In a few more hours, Seb just signed the release papers. They need to run a few more tests." Craig said, walking back into the room.

Evan, although happy to go home, frowned a bit. "How many more tests could they possibly run? I know what's wrong with me, what more do they need?" He asked, irritation in his voice, hospitals were definitely not the place for a demon.

His friends shrugged. "Hospitals are weird dude, I don't know what to tell you." Lui said.

Just then a nurse walked in, holding an empty syringe with a stethoscope around her neck. "Alright sweetie, I'm just gonna check your heartbeat and take a little bit of blood, okay? Your friends can stay if you want." She said, walking over to Evan and taking out his IV.

"Yeah, I don't mind." He said, breathing normally as she placed the stethoscope over where his heart was.

Once she had recorded everything on a paper attached to the clipboard near the end of his bed, she asked him to roll up his sleeve so that she could take some blood. Evan complied, rolling his sleeve up just above his elbow, making a first as she instructed.

His friends all looked away as the nurse sanitized the needle, including Craig, but Evan watched intently, his eyes gleaming with interest as she inserted the needle and pulled the tab at the end of the syringe, the small bottle attached to the end soon beginning to fill with blood.

"That's so cool." He said as she took out the needle and pressed a small pad of cotton on the spot she had injected.

She laughed, his friends turning around as they realized she was done. "I don't think I've heard anyone say that when they're getting their blood taken, let alone watch the whole process." Evan was now holding the small wad of cotton as she searched for something to hold it in place.

Evan smiled at her. "Really? But it's so fascinating, to think something so small could extract blood so easily....it's incredible, I've never seen anything like it." She wrapped it up with bandage, looking at the boy with curiosity as he continued to watch her actions with interest.

"Don't mind him, he called Jell-O edible glass a few minutes ago." Tyler said to the nurse as she finished up and Evan rolled down his sleeve, Craig walking over to his side as she walked away. He whispered something to his friend, causing them both to giggle as Evan turned to Tyler.

"You're just jealous that you don't have such a creative outlook on life, Tyler. You're like a twenty dice but you think you only have six sides." Evan retorted with a shit-eating grin.

"God, you're so weird." Tyler said, face-palming while the others suppressed laughter with their hands, including the nurse.

And after a few moments Marcel very quietly said once again. "Roasted."
