Chapter 14

Sorry for the late update I've been busy with schoolwork this week. On the bright side my birthday is next week! Enjoy the chapter! :)

-------------

"Why are guys watching us? Aren't you hungry?" Evan asked, warily looking at his friends as they stared at both him and Craig, a pizza slice in both of their hands.

"We are hungry, but we need to witness your first bite. We're taking your pizza virginity." Jonathan said, smiling as Evan laughed at his statement.

"Fine, but if you say 'pizza virginity' one more time I'm throwing this in the trash." Evan joked, pulling the pizza closer to his face, Craig doing the same.

They bit into the slice at the same time, tearing the corner edge of it off and chewing it slowly, putting their hands down. Everyone else watched in anticipation.

After a few minutes of getting stared at, Evan swallowed his bite and spoke. "You guys get to eat this? This is amazing, what do you think Craig?" He asked excitedly, turning to his brother, who nodded.

"It's so good, why haven't we had this before?!" He exclaimed, taking another bite as everyone else cheered, finally digging in to the pizza.

After Evan and Craig had successfully eaten a few slices each, they stopped and watched as everyone else ate, their demon hunger satisfied for now.

"It's ridiculous you guys haven't had this before." Brian said, his mouth still full of chewed up bits of pizza, causing Craig to outwardly cringe.

"Close your mouth, Brian. That's so fucking disgusting." He said, closing his eyes and trying to back away.

The guys laughed, now purposely chewing loudly just to get on Craig's nerve, causing him to cover his ears with his hands and shout obscenities at everyone.

Evan didn't really pay attention to what everyone was talking about after they had finished their pizza, he sort of stared out the window and thought over some things. Like what danger could be coming to this harmless group of teenagers whose biggest problem was end of course exams? And, not to be a dick, what the hell could be so fucking special about them?

Maybe it's a joke, he thought bitterly, consciously making sure he kept a blank expression on his face. A fear tactic to keep all the demons in check, give them a message that no one is safe in Hell. Not even their 'precious' children, the darling dears.

Honestly, Evan almost laughed at this thought, only to remember at the last second that he was supposed to be paying attention. He forced the laugh down his throat, only to start coughing violently for a few minutes, catching everyone's attention as he tried to stop.

"Ev, you ok there?" Craig asked, stifling a small giggle himself.

Evan shot him a glare. "I'm fine asshat." He snarled, causing Craig to quickly shut up with his tone. "What are you guys even doing?"

"Killing children." Marcel replied instantly, his eyes still glued to the screen.

"I'm sorry, what? It looks like you're playing Call of Duty." Evan replied bluntly, recognizing the first person shooter than they had shown him earlier.

"We are, but we're so good we're killing children with our skills, bitch!" Marcel cried, killing someone with a no-scope before getting sniped himself.

Craig rolled his eyes playfully. "Oh yeah, I can just hear them crying for their mothers!" He said sarcastically, causing the boys to burst out laughing.

Scowling at him, Marcel passed the controller over to Lui, who eagerly grabbed it and immediately got two kills, to which everyone cheered at his victory. Marcel, still feigning hurt at Craig's comment, crossed his arms and kept a stern look on his face, although eventually breaking into a smile after everyone kept cracking jokes.

Evan was quiet, the quietest he had been all week, but it was not because he was lost in thought, he was just caught in the moment. He was happy, don't get me wrong, he was quite possibly the happiest he had ever been among a group of more than three people, and that surprised him.

Because as Evan discretely glanced around the room, digesting every possible detail so that way he could savor this memory later, he realized that he enjoyed this. Having friends, having a sleepover, playfully making fun of each other and their poor ability at video games.

Evan had always felt a sense of isolation, but in this moment it had seemed to vanish.

--------

The next morning Evan and Craig were the first to leave, claiming they still had unpacking to do although it was an excuse. Sebastian had already helped them unpack, there were no more boxes, they just wanted to leave.

They walked in silence, a comfortable silence no less, but it was broken by Evan.

"That was fun." He commented, throwing Craig off guard, Evan had never found a social event fun, even among friends.

Nevertheless, Craig nodded, determined to not mess up the conversation. "It was. And that pizza stuff was pretty good, too."

It was Evan's turn to nod. "I know right, it was like heaven, guess that's why it's not in Hell." He joked, producing a small chuckle at his own joke, Craig joining in.

They carried on down the street towards their house, unaware that the guys had been watching them until they disappeared around the corner.

-----------------

"I thought we had a great time." Lui said, sitting down next to David, who nodded in agreement.

"But isn't it odd that they didn't know what a sleepover was? Or pizza?" Brian cut in, a suspicious tone in his voice.

"Hey, some parents don't let their kids eat anything like that." Brock defended, crossing his arms as he looked down at Brian, who was sat on top of the blue carpet.

"Actually, come to think of it, that pizza was the only thing they've eaten in front of us." Tyler said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"Yeah, you're right." Marcel said. "Do you think they have like a disorder or something?"

"Of course not, don't be ridiculous, Marcel. They look perfectly healthy, obviously they just don't like eating school food. It happens. And why are we all suddenly playing detective?" Jonathan snapped, leaning against the closed closet door with his arms crossed.

"Because people don't just register their kids in a limo, like a week early might I add, buy them a house to live in and leave them alone! Not to mention that their parents live in a different country!" Brain argued, glaring at Jonathan. "You just don't see a problem here because you like Evan." He added bitterly.

"I do not!" Jonathan protested, returning Brian's glare.

"Will you two stop? All we're trying to do is figure these guys out a bit, we don't need to argue like they do!" Tyler said, looking between the two of them.

"That is a weird thing they do, one minute they're perfectly fine and joking around, the next they just snap at each other, who does that?" Brian said.

"Perfectly sane people, you Irish bastard." Jonathan retorted.

"I said enough." Tyler warned, glaring at both of them now. "Let's just drop it, I'm sure they'll tell us more about themselves once we've known them longer, it's only been a week." He said, sitting down on his bed and turning on the TV.

Everyone else nodded at his words, getting comfortable and relaxing.

But Jonathan just couldn't get over what Brian had said.

Was it true? Did Jonathan really like Evan?

No, he told himself. Of course not, that'd be ridiculous.
