Chapter One

I sat on the ledge of the canyon that connected this world and my Father's Kingdom to the world of Earth and its Kingdoms of Nohr and Hoshidso. In two months I was to crowned Queen. My Father and servants said I should be happy. I would fake a smile and say that I was.

In reality something deep down in the pit of my stomach told me I couldn't be. No, not that I couldn't, but that I shouldn't. I could feel something or someone needed me. But who was it? Who needed me and why?

A snap of someone stepping on a twig broke brought me out of my thoughts and put me on edge. I quickly turned to look for the source, but found I was still alone. Shaking my head at myself, I decided it was best to return to the castle and rest.

"Melody? Is that you my daughter?" a man's voice called from behind me.

"I-it... it can't be!" I shouted and whipped around to face him.

He smiled gently at me from underneath his white robes hood. His long, soft, sky blue colored hair floated in the evening breeze as I stared at him. He held out his arms towards me. When he did, he lifted his head revealing the light that had been trapped inside the Dragon I called a father, had finally been freed and taken on a Human form.

I rushed to him and cried, "Father!"

"There's my sweet daughter," he said softly trying to reassure me that it was really him holding me and not a cruel dream I would wake up from.

"Melody you must go to Hoshido for me," he said.

I immediately looked up at him and asked, "Hoshido? Why do I have to go there Father?"

"Your Mother fled there with Cory long ago. You must go and protect him," Father said as he led me back to the canyon's edge.

"Mother fled there!? Why?! And who is Cory?! Why do I have to protect him?!" I screamed at my Father.

"Cory's you're little brother. That Dragon may have been a part of me at one point, but as of right now, he would kill you if it meant gaining more power. So you must leave here now. Go find your Mother and Cory," Father said before an arrow sunk deep into his shoulder. Before I could do anything to help Father more arrows were fired at us. Father shoved me over the edge in order to protect me and began fighting the soldiers. I watched Father with tears as I plummeted down into the canyon below.

Minutes later, my feet were firmly on the ground once again. Instead of seeing the violet colored Sakura blossom trees of my world, all I saw were sickly charred black trees native only to the kingdom of Nohr. I looked behind me at the ledge of the Bottomless Canyon, the only connection to my past, and I smiles. For the first time in 12 years, I was genuinely happy.

"I promise I will protect Cory as you asked me to Father. I hope we will both see you again one say," I whispered as I turned and headed west towards Hoshido.
