Chapter One

Gaster floated about, his eyes cast downwards. He knew where he was. He knew where he had been for a long time. It was the void. He wanted to escape. He wanted to be back with his sons. Oh, how he missed his sons. He realized he made mistakes. How he wished he could be the one to protect them.

In the void, no one could speak. Well, one could, but it would only come out as a garbled mess. Even still, Gaster knew what he was trying to say, and that was enough for him. And seeing as he was the only in the void, it's not like anyone would care anyway.

The sound of laughter came upon him. It was then that he knew it was time for his daily dose of torturing. The only time Gaster wasn't tortured was when his sons were asleep. That was when he could rest as well, though there were often times he did not, due to his oldest son's frequent nightmares. Gaster wished he could be the one to comfort him.

It was almost as if he was bound to them. Oh, how he wished he could take it all back now, focus on his family instead of his machine. Instead of his experiments. At least now he knew what he sought for was real. The timelines were real. He only wished he hadn't found out this way.

The laughter grew louder and he watched as Sans, his eldest son, albeit the shorter one, push Papyrus, the younger but taller one- and the more childish one- down the snowy hill. Gaster knew that his oldest son, Sans, knew of the timelines as well, and fully blamed Gaster for it. Gaster couldn't help but blame himself as well.

"I know, Sans... I'm an idiot", Gaster murmured, though it came out in the strange garbles that no one can understand. When Papryus came up the hill, excited to be pushed down once more, Gaster tried to help push him down, only to phase through Papryus. He sighs, knowing this is what happens whenever he tries to do something that is of the real world and not of the void.

'Not that I can do anything in the void anyway', Gaster mused, continuing to watch his sons as they play in the snow, throwing snowballs at one another. He watched as Sans grew tired, going back to the house they had gotten together, after escaping from the lab Gaster had kept them in. Gaster sighed to himself. "I really was a terrible father, wasn't I?"

He watched as Papyrus goes to Undyne's house, most likely to ask her to train him to be part of the elite guard. As per usual, she says no. Gaster watched Papyrus sigh to himself before wandering back to the house, and finding Sans asleep on the couch. He watched as Papyrus tried to cook some spaghetti, only to fail horribly. 'I should have been there to help...' He watched as Sans ate the pasta, even though it was definitely not edible. Gaster chuckles. 'Perhaps it is a good thing we are skeletons and cannot get physically ill.'

Gaster watched as Sans tells puns to get on Papyrus' nerves. He watched as Papyrus got annoyed at Sans for the puns though a smile still crept its way onto to Papyrus' face. Gaster smiled as they continue on through their day, joking and playing together. He watched as Sans falls asleep several times, most likely due to his low HP. Gaster watched as Sans excuses himself to go to Grillby's, getting drunk on the ketchup. 'How does he do that?' Gaster sighed knowing he won't be able to understand it unless he talks to the skeleton himself, which he knows won't happen.

Gaster frowns as Papyrus is called to take Sans home. He watched as Papyrus carried Sans with one arm, obviously having done this many times before. He watched as Papyrus helps Sans sober up. He watched as it got to be "nighttime" in the Underground, causing Sans to tuck Papyrus into his race car bed with a goodnight story, something Gaster should be doing instead of his eldest son. Gaster couldn't be more proud of Sans but he wished it wasn't due to how things had ended between them. He watched as Sans goes to sleep himself, though it being a restless sleep due to nightmares. At one point, Sans even used his magic, creating what Sans called a Gaster Blaster to shoot exactly where Gaster had been standing. Gaster flinched though he knew Sans could not see or harm him in any way. He was surprised when Sans finally got out of bed, and punched a fist through the wall, muttering angrily.

"Darn you, Gaster. Why must I be the only one to remember you? Not even Papyrus remembers you and he's the one who actually loved you."

Ah, yes. There is that. Gaster is only remembered by the one who hates him.
