Chapter 5

After the encounter he had the other day and witnessing the leather jacket clad boys, Michael was back at the Boardwalk the next night, purchasing a black leather jacket from the Punk Store. He smirked at his reflection in the mirror, liking how the jacket fit him. It was the kind of jacket the boys and the girl were wearing the other night. He walked along after purchasing the jacket and stopped by an ear piercing stand. He had noticed that the boys each had one ear pierces. In his desire to fit in, he considered getting his ears pierced.

"It's a rip-off." An unfamiliar voice said. Michael jumped and turned around. He was shocked to see Star again. This time, he noticed that she was accompanied by the other girl he had seen. He noticed that up close, she looked to be about 19 years of age. Her [e/c] eyes shone with a sort of teenage mischief. Michael smiled slightly.

"Hi..." He said, at a loss for words, just like he had been last night. [Y/N] looked the male up and down and placed her hand on her hip. She wore a white tank top and a light blue skirt, a complete change compared to the clothes she had worn last night. He noticed that she also wore a black leather jacket around her shoulders. It seemed a little big on her so Michael assumed that it belonged to one of the boys.

"If you want your ear pierced," she glanced at Star. "She'll do it." She said. The girl turned to Star and leaned into the other girl's ear.

"I'll leave him to you." She whispered. It was quiet enough that only the two of them would hear it but loud enough to be heard over all the noise. The girl moved away from Star and looked at Michael one again before walking off. Star and Michael watched the girl's retreating form before they looked at each other once again. Star started walking away and Michael followed, the two moving along the busy Boardwalk. Michael looked at her.

"Your friend was certainly interesting." He said. Star smiled slightly.

"Yeah. [Y/N] is extremely confident and independent. She is in a relationship with all of the boys you saw last night." She said. Michael stared at her in astonishment.

"Wait, you mean that your friend [Y/N] is in a relationship with four guys? Is that even possible?" He asked. Star shrugged her shoulders.

"They make it work. They always get weird stares from the people around them, but they don't care." Star explained. Michael nodded in understanding, looking away from her. He looked back at her again.

"What's your name?" He asked. Star looked at him and smiled slightly.

"Star." She said. Michael scoffed slightly in amusement.

"Oh. Your folks, too, huh?" He asked. Star looked at him and frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Ex-hippies. My mom was one. I came this close to being called Moon Child, or Moon Beam or something," he paused, a moment of silence coming between them. He looked at Star again. "But Star's great. I like Star." Michael complimented. Star smiled.

"Me to." She said. Michael smiled at her. He placed his hand over his heart..

"I'm Michael." He said, introducing himself. Star smiled at hearing his name.

"Michael's great. I like Michael." She said. Michael smiled awkwardly at Star's playfulness. For a moment they walked in silence until Star broke the silence, "I guess you're new around here." She guessed. Michael nodded and put his hands in his pockets.

"Sort of. We used to come here during the summers when I was kid. Now we're here on a permanent basis." He said. While Michael didn't seem particularly excited at the situation he was in, Star seemed pleased by the news. Michael looked at her and after a beat of silence asked, "Are you hungry? Wanna get something to eat?" He asked. Star smiled and him and nodded.

"Okay."

Michael and Star walked towards Michael's Honda. Just as Michael climbed on the bike, the rumbling of motorcycles was heard as the boys form the other night rode up. Laddie sat behind Dwayne and [Y/N] sat behind Paul, her chin resting on his shoulder. David was astride a throbbing triumph. Michael looked around, feeling uneasy. Out-classed and out-numbered. David looked at Star.

"Where you goin', Star?" David asked. Star frowned and looked away from the platinum blonde.

"For a ride," she said. She glanced at Michael. "This is Michael." She said, introducing the male to the others. David looked at Michael and gunned his engine, then let it rev back down. He was showing his strength in the sound of his ride. He smirked slightly at Michael.

"I'm David," he introduced. He nodded his head to the others. "That's Paul,  Dwayne and Marko." David said. Marko and Paul smirked and nodded their heads to Michael in greeting while Dwayne kept a straight face. David looked over at [Y/N], who was resting her head against Paul's shoulder comfortably. David smirked. "And I think you know our girl, [Y/N]." He said. Michael nodded.

"Yeah, we met." He said. [Y/N] raised her head slightly and looked at Michael. She nodded her head over towards Laddie.

"That's Laddie." She said. Michael looked over at the little boy and nodded his head in greeting. Nobody moved, but glances were exchanged all around. Finally, Michael broke the silence. He looked at Star.

"We still going?" He asked, referring to his dinner offer to her earlier. David looked at Michael's bike.

"Honda 250, huh?" He asked. Michael nodded, glaring slightly at David.

"That's right." He said. David smirked and looked at Star.

"C'mon, Star. Climb on." Michael said. David looked at her.

"Star?" It was less of a question and more of a silent demand. A silent reminder of where she belonged. She looked back at David and then gave Michael an apologetic look. She then climbed onto the motorcycle behind David. David smirked and looked at Michael.

"Know where Hudson's Bluff is? Overlooking the point?" David asked. Again, he guns his engine. Michael looked at David's bike and shook his head slightly.

"I can't beat your bike." He said, clearly knowing the difference between his Honda and David's Triumph. David smiled and tilted his head.

"You don't have to beat me, Michael." David said. [Y/N] straightened her posture and wrapped her arms tighter around Paul's waist.

"Just try to keep up." She said, smirking. David nodded at her words. Dwayne glanced back at Laddie.

"We're goin' for a ride, man." He said, letting Laddie know to hang on. It was going to be a bumpy ride. David took off first, followed by Marko, Paul and Dwayne. The boys shouted in joy, feeling the thrill of riding their bikes. Michael followed behind as best he could. The motorcycles bounced down the steps of the Boardwalk and hit the beach. The boys had an air of confidence, going down the steps with ease, no fear of crashing. Michael, however, wasn't so confident. He rode down the steps, nearly crashing. They picked up speed as they spun out from the board-walk, spraying sand into the air and revving their engines. People on the beach turned to look as the motorcycles roared by, heading for a more deserted section of sand. All five motorbikes weaved between the roaring bon fires set up along the beach. The boys' faces were alight with joy and excitement. [Y/N] let go of Paul's waist for a moment and let out a howl of excitement, spreading her arms out to the side and arching her back slightly. Marko laughed at her. Michael, however, was more cautious, doing his best to keep up. The motorcycles sped through the surf. They headed for the pier at full speed. The thick wooden pilings presented a hazardous obstacle course. Michael skidded and slowed down. David and the others did just the opposite. They increased their speed as they approached the pilings. David and the others threaded their way between the pilings at breakneck speed, executing turns and avoiding collisions in a way that didn't seem possible. As they made their way through the pilings and onto the sand, Star looked back at Michael from her position behind David and gave him a smile. [Y/N] glanced at Michael, mildly impressed that he was able to keep up this far with them. A thick fog started to suddenly roll in. This blocked Michael's vision. He looked around at the others. They didn't seem the slightest bit concerned about the fog. Before he knew it, he was racing towards a sheer drop off to the waves below the bluff. Michael stopped his bike before he could go plummeting. He and the bike fell to the side, into the sand. David and the others rolled up, stopping around the male. Michael was breathing hard, glaring at Michael.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" He shouted as David climbed off of his bike, the others doing the same. "Are you trying to get me killed?!" He shouted. In a burst of anger, Michael shot out and punched David in the face. Anger flashed in [Y/N]'s eyes. She walked towards the male, but stopped when David shook his head at her. He nodded his head at Marko and Paul, who were holding Michael back. "Come on! Just you. Just you." Michael growled. David chuckled.

"How far are you willing to go, Michael?"
