Godzilla Series: Millenium
Godzilla (1998)
Score: 7/10
This movie was surprisingly good. Despite being from 1998, the special and practical effects are really damn good. They make Godzilla feel so alive and thankfully they know their limitations, so they decided to have Godzillas scenes in the dark. The monster scenes, along with the soundtrack, definitely make this film. I actually felt more attached to Godzilla and his children than the actual humans. There are problems, like the main characters and their obnoxious plot armor, the second half being a Jurassic park ripoff, and the military is useless as all hell. But, it is a pretty good movie.
Pfft bitch you thought

Godzilla: 2000
Score: 7/10
This film was a pretty good start to the Millenium era, but not as good as the others. Usually it starts with a Godzilla solo movie but this time it goes into sci fi immediately with the addition of Orga. The Godzilla Watchers is a pretty neat concept too. I like how this feels like a movie of the Millenium with Godzillas slicker design and camera feel. That being said, story is super simple and some cgi and special
effects looks really NOT GOOD.
Godzilla vs Megaguiras
Score: 5/10
This film is okay. It's a standard Godzilla movie. Surprisingly I was mostly interested in the human stuff like the Godzilla Defense Force and the scientist lady. There are some factors that heavily weight this film down. I found the female main character real annoying, Megaguiras is a bland ripoff of Legion from Gamera 2, and the writers do not know how Black Holes work. I honestly believe this was more of a blueprint for the Kiryu saga later down the line.
Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: All Out Monster Attack
Score: 10/10
From the creators of the Gamera Trilogy, brings one of the best Godzilla films ever. A different and unique take on Godzilla makes this one of the most standout movies of the franchise. With Godzilla being the reincarnation of all lost souls of Asia in WW2, and being the most evil he's ever been actively seeking out humans to kill. With a more mystical setting and Ghidorah taking the role of a good guy, this film is just so unique! To top it all off, the human story is also great! I can't help but love it!
Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla
Score: 9/10
This is literally just a better Godzilla vs Megaguiras. Everything dumb in that movie is made awesome in this one. Especially Akane, the main female lead, instead of blaming Godzilla for something that was clearly her fault, she instead took the blame, overcame it, and eventually earned the respect of her fellow soldiers. Kiryu is such a great kaiju, being the cyborg reincarnation of the original 1954 Godzilla. While yes it's another reboot, it's a reboot done right! Only problem I have with this film is the little girl. Holy fuck her argument is so stupid and makes no damn sense.
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.
Score: 7.5/10
Honestly I was a hooked at the beginning, felt disinterested throughout most of it, then got invested at the end again. It just feels....alright in all honesty. With how awesome the previous movie was this was kinda disappointing. It's still a good movie though don't get me wrong. The beginning got me hooked and the ending was nearly perfect. However with the downgrade of human characters, Kiryu being an automaton until the very end, and the odd pacing, it just dragged that down a bit.
Godzilla: Final Wars
Score: 8/10
This movie...is so stupid, so over the top, and so ridiculous I absolutely love it. Like Godzilla vs Destroyah, this was meant to be the end of the Godzilla franchise. This definitely felt like it, with references to the franchise different points....well mainly the Showa era. Some old monsters were given good callbacks, like Gigan and Anguiras, while others got the short stick like King Caesar and Hedorah's 15 seconds of screentime. Honestly this is just a slightly better Invasion of Astro Monster, but add on early 2000's tropes and over the top action. Everyone tries so hard to be cool in this movie it physically makes me laugh out loud.
Seriously this movie feels like if Godzilla, the Matrix, and Power Rangers had a child.
And thus ends the Millenium Era. This era is a bit odd to place. It holds mostly good movies, but it's by far the shortest out of all the era's. It had a huge problem of constantly rebooting itself, making it feel like it lacked confidence in the stories it provided. But, it does hold some quality and fan favorite Godzilla movies, so it's definitely got some highlights for it.
