THIRTEEN

KELLER'S P.O.V

I awoke, tinges of pain still evident. Then I remembered, I remembered what had happened. I looked around me, attempting to get up but could barely stand.

"It's no use." A voice stated, coming from somewhere behind me.

I turned around, now realizing I wasn't alone. When I faced the person, an immense feeling of shock flooded my senses. He was sitting down, his head in his hands looking frustrated with everything.

"Parker?" I asked as if I was only in a nightmare, emotions choking my vocal chords.

It was in this moment that I had a one track mind, and it was playing one tune: he couldn't be here. Everything I've done has been to protect him, but now he's in danger.

"Yeah, it's me," He spoke, slowly lifting his eyes to meet my own.

"What? How?" I questioned, confused.

"Darkness said that before you passed out she read your mind. She found out about me. Then she came to the school, kidnapping me."

I sighed with anger. This was my fault, it's my fault he's now stuck in danger.

"But where are we?"

"She trapped us in an invisible box." He stated as if it was obvious.

"I'm so sorry, Parker." I apologized, looking down at my feet.

He reached over, covering my hand with his own. "It's not your fault, Keller. But I just want to know, why you were thinking about me?"

"I was thinking that maybe after all this, we could finally be together." I said truthfully, a light blush dusting my cheeks.

"Funny, because I was thinking the same thing." He laughed, making me smile.

He always knew what to say. That's what made me like him so much, because he makes me smile.

"This is all my fault." I stated, peeling my eyes away from his once again.

Soon enough, tears began to protrude from my eyes uncontrollably. I felt Parker move, taking a place beside me.

"Hey hey, it's not your fault. You didn't know this was going to happen." Parker promised, wiping my tears away.

"But it is my fault, it always has been. I pushed you away because I didn't want you to get hurt. When I should have let you decide what you wanted. I just wanted to keep you safe, but I failed."

"Keller, I understand all the things you did for me were out of love. I knew why you were pushing me away. But it's not your fault, you can't always blame yourself for everything."

This boy really did understand me. Here we were confessing our feelings for each other, in the middle of a huge fight. I finally met his eyes as he spoke, studying their chocolate brown color. From the day I first met him, I always knew that there was something special about him. Then he met my eyes.

Chocolate brown met icy blue as we stared in to each other's eyes, almost like we couldn't look away from each other. In that very moment our eyes said everything. They said that no matter what happens our love will always find a way.

So, in this moment I couldn't help myself. I leaned in, and he didn't pull away. Then our lips met, finally making me understand what life was truly about. It is about finding someone you love enough to sacrifice everything.

Love truly can be confusing. It can be stressful and heartbreaking. But in the end it's all worth it. When we pulled away, both of us were blushing madly. Our eyes never left each others, us sitting there still trapped. Suddenly, I heard chilled laughter, bringing me back to reality.

"Parker, what happened to my friends?" I asked, shaking his shoulders frantically.

"Woah, calm down." He stated, looking dizzy after being shaken back to reality.

"Sorry, but I need to know if they're okay."

"Well, I guess they are." He said, his hand pointing off in to the distance.

I looked to where he was pointing, immediately seeing what he meant. My friends were trapped in a bubble, frozen in time. Darkness was standing right beside them. I looked in horror, realizing we were all trapped.

"Parker, we have to get out of here." I proclaimed, starting to panic.

"Okay, maybe if we try together we can get out." He spoke, nodding.

As he said this, a plan came to my mind. Maybe the strength of our powers combined could help us get out.

"Parker, you're a genius." I shouted, throwing my arms around him.

"Well, I try." He claimed modestly, leaning in my short hug.

"Come on, focus." I told him seriously.

He threw his hands up as if surrendering. "Okay, I'm focused."

"So, like you said. Maybe all we have to do is work together. If we use the combined strength of our powers together, then maybe we can break through."

"It's worth a try." He sighed, shrugging his shoulders.

Then, he looked at me as if waiting for directions. All I did was try and focus my powers. He nodded, copying my actions.

I closed my eyes, allowing my powers take over. I thought of everything we've been through. Every stress and heart filled moment that had happened so far. Through all these things I've been broken down, but then I got back up and became stronger than before.

I opened my eyes as they began to glow. They glowed a light pink color, my hands too. I looked at Parker, surprisingly seeing the same thing happening to him. His eyes and hands were both glowing a light yellow color. He looked down, yelping with surprise at this change.

"Well, this is new." Parker chuckled.

This made me realize that he really was more powerful than I thought. He really did have potential, I was just never able to see it through all my worry. I then grabbed his hand, combining our powers. I felt a surge of powerful energy fill my body as I did so.

The box suddenly glowed so brightly that I was forced to close my eyes. We then focused our powers on escaping. With a loud boom, the box shattered like glass. Parker and I were thrown backwards by the impact, both sitting on the ground staring at what remained of the box.

A sudden smile broke out on my face as I realized what we had just done. I looked at Parker, seeing him sporting the same smile. Now, all we have to do is save my friends. Then comes the really hard part, defeating Darkness.
