SIXTEEN
KELLER'S P.O.V
I watched in horror as Parker fell to the ground. How could I have let this happen, why did I allow him get hurt? All this time, I promised myself I would protect him, but I failed. Now here he is, in pain.
I ran to his side as soon as he fell to the ground, quickly checking his pulse. He was still breathing. I sighed with relief, but looked down at him with a look of guilt on my face.
"I'm so sorry." I gushed, tears tugging at my eyes. "Just please, be okay."
"You s-saved the day." He stuttered out.
"Yeah, I guess I did." I replied. "Just stay with me, alright?"
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere."
It made me smile. The fact that even in pain, he still managed to stay happy. After all we've been through, we've managed to stay together. I looked down at Parker, smiling. How could I have ever thought that he wasn't strong. He was in pain at this very moment, but it didn't look like it bothered him at all.
"Come on, I'll help you." I offered, holding out a hand.
He took it, and I draped his over my shoulder to aid him in walking. With every step we took, he seemed to wince in pain, but otherwise he was fine. All that mattered now was getting him help.
~A couple hours later~
After getting Parker to a hospital, everything seemed to be falling in to place. Fairyland was back to normal. But, only one thing remained of Darkness. I stared down at her necklace, which now lied in the palm of my hand. The black heart seemed to stare right back at me, almost like it had eyes of it's own. Something about this necklace felt so familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Keller, you can come in and see him now." The doctor stated.
I placed the necklace in my pocket, proceeding towards his room. When I entered, I saw him sitting in a hospital bed smiling at me.
"Hey, lightboy." I greeted, sitting on the edge of his bed.
"Hey." He replied.
"So, we made it through."
"Yeah, we did."
"Are you doing okay?" I questioned.
"Well, I've been better. But at least I'm alive."
"Parker, I'm so sorry."
"Keller, it's not your fault. It never has been," Parker promised.
He always knew what to say, even when everything seemed impossible. In this moment, I never felt more lucky. I leaned in, and he did the same until our lips met. In this world full of darkness and light, love always seemed to find a way. When we parted, our eyes were glued to each other's.
"What comes now?" I asked him.
"I guess we'll just have to wait and see."
He was right, we would have to wait awhile. But, we were never too far away from a fight. This was our lives now, it's now our job to protect the world we live in. Our next adventure seemed to be lying right around the corner, but this one would change our lives forever.
