"Yes. I like having my sessions with the Joker. He has been improving and providing great results." I breathed out.
Flashes of photographs filled the room and I couldn't make out anybody's face clearly because of the constant flashing lights.
"How do you make him say the truth?" Someone asked from the crowd of reporters.
It was a press conference. I never thought in my life that I would have a press conference.
"I treat him like a friend." I said simply.
"Do you think you can cure him fully?" Someone asked.
"Lets wait and see, shall we?" I said. "Thank you." I ended the conference that has been going on for the past hour.
Suddenly the room filled with noise of pouring questions from the reporters and I turned away, the guards escorting me away from the room safely. Once I was out of the room, I quickly hopped in my car that the guard opened the door to and rode away.
I breathed out a huge sigh of relief and closed my eyes, lying on the seat and turned on the music.
Answering questions was tiring.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"That was funny." I chuckled.
"Do you still have the baseball bat?" She asked.
"Yeah. I do." I replied and craned my neck to look at the tall and proud baseball bat that was on my glass shelf.
I had won it.
"Those were good times." Debby sighed and I held the phone inbetween my shoulder and ear, while I tossed the egg omelette in the air, before placing it on my plate.
"Hey, cheer up. How's that guy you talked about the other day?" I asked, stabbing my fork into the omelette before putting a small piece of it in my mouth.
There was a long pause.
"Hey?" I called.
"H-Harleen? You are ... different." Debby said, in an awestruck voice.
"What?" I asked and contonued chewing.
"Your responses whenever we talk on the phone are always short. I do most of the talking. You are always shy, keeping everything to yourself. Organised and everything. But, now you laugh more, and you never laugh even if it was a really huge and funny joke, you only smile, you talk more, you are radiant and for the first time, you asked me about my life. And you had a press conference today morning which you attended confidently without making a fool of yourself. The Harleen I know would have stuttered and be speechless the whole time." She said, ending the long speech with a sigh.
My breath stuck in my throat as I realised how much true it was. Realisation struck me as I thought of all the events that had happened.
Its true. I have been laughing more and I did just attend a press conference, without stuttering and replying to the questions smoothly.
"Is it bad?" I asked.
"Its actually good. I love it." She said and I smiled.
"Gotham is changing you." She said. "Or more specifically, your life in the Arkham Asylum is changing you."
Or even more specifically, Joker is changing you.
Is that true?
Is he changing me?
Its a good change, right?
You have never been this carefree and radiant ever in your life, Harley.
He is changing me.
And, now my inner voice is calling me Harley?
"Hello?" Debby called and It broke me out of my thoughts.
"I need your help." I said.
"What?" She asked.
"How to know ... if I like a guy?" I breathed out the question and immediately a high pitched giggle erupted from the phone and I sighed, pulling the phone away from my ear.
"Who is it? WHO IS IT?" She shrieked.
How do I tell her who? She would probably kill me if I tell the name. I can't believe I am even doing this. I have been avoiding that word in my head for the past four days, but I have to confirm it. It has been bugging me ever since it has popped out of my mind.
Do I like ... him?
Say it. Say the name, Harley.
Do I like the Joker?
You are in deep trouble, blossom.
Poison Ivy's words flashed through my mind.
"What are you doing? Tell me who is it!" Debby shrieked and I became annoyed at her screaming in my ear.
My thoughts went away.
How do I answer her?
"His name is ... Jack." I said. She squealed again.
"Ok. Let's get on. Do you feel nervous when he is near you?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said, thinking of the sessions I have had with him.
"Does he drive you crazy?" She asked and I laughed.
"Definitely." I said, and she chuckled.
"Do you think about him a lot?" She asked.
"Every single second..." I whispered to myself. "What? I can't hear you." She said.
"I mean.. yeah. I do." I said.
"Do you get butterflies when he touches you, or compliments you or flirts with you or just says your name?" She asked.
"Scratch butterflies. I get dragons." I said and both of us laughed.
"Do you think he is unique or special to you?" She asked.
"Yes." I said.
He is unique. I find him unique from the beginning of time. He is definitely special to me.
"Does everything remind you of him?" She asked.
I smiled. "Yep." I said, popping the p. She laughed.
Her laughing stopped all of a sudden and there was a long pause.
"Hello?" I called.
"Harleen ... there is something I have to tell you." She said, seriously and I gulped.
"What is it?"
"The last two questions I asked were meant for people who are in love Harleen." She said. "I don't think you just like the guy. You are in lo--"
"No!" I shouted and hung up, switching off my phone and threw it away.
The sound of my own pulse throbbing rang in my ears. The shock ricochets up my skeleton. And, my hands went clammy. The omelette I was eating, forgotten. I felt my breathing increase like I was hyperventilating. My breathing becomes erratic, deep, then shallow.
My mind replayed all those times I had spent with him in the Asylum, during our sessions.
His cerulean eyes that made feel alive, his haunting gaze, his deep erotic voice, his chiseled abs, his electric green hair, his warm breath on my skin, the touch of his fingers on my lips and unconsciously I traced the bottom of my lips like I could still feel the touch.
Realisation strucks me like lightning and my heart pounds like a drum.
This is even worst than I thought.
