Once a year. It's all the time they had, but such little time that was. If you spend time with friends and family, you want to make the most of it. You have so much fun that the time just flies.

Time flies... no, no it's more realistic to say it's melting away. The seconds, minutes, hours... oh look the day is over. Time to wait another year. People can change so much in a year, sure there's always the occasional letter or phone call; but it's never the same. Some things are better said in person, but by the time they can see each other again, most things are irrelevant. 

So much time wasted. So much time wasted that people don't even realize they're wasting. No day is guaranteed, and when you only see someone once every three hundred and sixty five days, you don't want to miss a single fraction of a second. 

There's five hundred, twenty five thousand, six hundred minutes in a year; one thousand, four hundred and forty in a day. A big number, a small amount of time. Now take away the time you sleep in the early morning. The time it takes you to wake up, freshen yourself up, get some nice clothes, and do your hair. Now shave off the time it takes to make and eat breakfast, and the time it takes to go somewhere to meet up, or wait for someone to arrive. So little time.

Take off the time you sleep at night, getting ready for bed, and going home if you met up somewhere. There's also the occasional break for eating or visiting the restroom. What do you really have? There's just no time.

Andrew and Remington only had those few hours, only that fraction of time to see each other. The community didn't like their ways. Loving a man was forbidden, so they were forced to live on opposite sides of the island.

One day. That's the only time they are permitted a year. Cuddles, picnics, movies, bedroom 'activities'; only given time to do so for a few hours. One day a year.

People say 'I love you' so easily, this phrase meant so much to the young lovers however, as they could only say it face to face on occasion. There were no 'see you later' s or 'lets meet up tomorrow' s, it's as if the phrases were made up. Although this was upsetting for them both, the moments of which they do exchange gifts and affection, or speak to one another in the flesh were all the more special. It was a rare occasion, something so beautiful to them. Something so imperfectly wonderful.

Just once a year.
