Robot Apocalypse.

I stared out the window, blinking, then turned my green eyes to look at the little robot who stayed in my house. He didn't really have much in the way of appendages, considering he was designed after the old vacuum called a 'roomba', but I loved him anyways.

"Did you know about this?" I asked him. He beeped in a non-committal way and I gestured out the window, "You know exactly what I'm talking about!"

He beeped again, almost sounding sad, and I sighed. "Just tell me next time please, before you all start the destruction without me. You know I've had a certain dislike for the human race because of how they treat everyone."

He beeped in affirmation and I walked out to my kitchen, the robot following behind me as I started to make breakfast. I stared out the window as I ate, contemplating.

"Welp." I looked at my little robot who was currently cleaning anything off the floors (not that there was anything), "Guess this is just our life now, huh?"

He beeped again and I put my dishes in the washing machine, sitting at my bay window only to hear frantic knocking at my front door. A groan ensued as I stood up, walking over to open it enough to peek out. I didn't see anyone and rolled my eyes, about to close the door again when I heard crying.

A little baby was on my doorstep, wrapped in a little magenta blanket that had holes and ashes on it. As soon as I picked her up she stopped crying, instead cooing and looking at me with almond eyes. My heart melted and she reached up her tiny chocolate-colored hands towards my face as I carried her inside.

"Hey Mark." I said to my robot friend, "It looks like I have a daughter now. Can you go ask one of the others to run to any un-demolished store, pick up some formula and supplies?" I walked towards the bathroom, preparing to run the little one a bath, "And what do you think of the name Mirai?"

He beeped happily as I got the water started and zoomed to the charging station in the back of the house where two other robots spent most of their time. They would've cooked food and kept the house clean, but I prefer to do most of it myself. Mark still stayed around though, leaving me grateful for his companionship.

Mirai.
Future.
Because any hope I had and have for the future of humanity,

It's going all to her.
