A Blessing In Disguise Part 6

"Stay positive. Sometimes you don't even realize you're blocking your own blessings by thinking negatively and holding on to the past. Learn to let go."

―Germany Kent

Christian Drake III POV

Jesus Christ!  Thank god I am out of that car.  One more country music song and I was going to go batshit crazy. Just as I can lay back on this bed and finally chill out to some Nirvana, I heard a knock on the door. "Come in." It was Mrs. Campbell.

"Chris, I know you just got in from a day of travel and you may be tired, but there is a party tonight.  My friend Emily has a son, J.J., and he has offered to take you to the party. I think you should take him up on his offer, starting Monday you will have a full list of chores, and I just don't want to see you only working and cooping yourself into this bedroom all summer."

Oh great, now I'm obligated to actually socialize with these rednecks? I know I should be more appreciative of everything the Campbells have done to help out my family.  Especially, since Mr. Campbell risked his life saving my dad all those years ago.

"Okay, what time?' I asked.

"J.J. will be here in about an hour, I'm so glad you agreed to go.  The Sheridan's have been wonderful friends to us, and it would be nice for you to get to know them.  We will be spending a lot of time with that family while you are here this summer. You may also be asked to help on their farm from time to time."  She smiled and shut the door as she left.

Oh, it just kept getting better and better.  A month ago, I was on campus enjoying college life.  Now I'm in the middle of a cornfield getting ready to tip cows, or some sort of weird hillbilly tradition.  I already missed New York, I should have brought my guitar to help pass the time, and that's what I had planned.

After throwing on a pair of jeans and a black T-Shirt, I thought back to what my father said before I left. "Remember son, you cannot be Christian Drake, you are Cody Martin.  For your safety and for the safety of the Campbell's, you cannot trust anyone with your true identity."

I hated my life at that moment.  Being the son of a billionaire was not as glamorous as the media let on.  Especially, now that my father's partner was involved in a scandal.  My father's name has been drug into it and all hell let loose.  I guess my little escapade with the stripper didn't help anything.  The media loved that one, assholes!  How was I supposed to know she was a stripper?  I met her at a coffee shop.  Guess from now on I need to see a resume before sleeping with someone.

Dad threatened to cut me off if I didn't come here and stay out of the limelight until the problem dissolved itself.  It was probably well over and done by the time I would return to New York.  I just hope with everything I had that it was over sooner than later.

"Cody, J.J. is here!"  Mrs. Campbell yelled,  Oh god, here we go, off to this crappy ass night in this shithole town.  Somebody, please shoot me!

Cody Martin POV

You have got to be kidding me!  What the hell were those people doing? Some sort of organized dance?  For Christ's sake, I just walked into some twisted hillbilly version of Footloose?  This, this music, or whatever it is, for fucks sake! The 80's song Cotton Eye Joe was playing loudly.

I watched the movie Deliverance, if I hear banjos, I'm running!

(Play the above music)

Oh, shit!  No, no, no, no!

J.J. must have read my expression, he pat me on my shoulder and chuckled.  "You're good buddy, our banjos aren't some prelude to anything that will threaten your manhood."  He shook his head and continued laughing.

"Who's in charge of the music?"  I asked, and J.J. shook his head and grinned, as he pointed to a white Jeep.

"Can I grab you a beer?"  J.J. asked, and I answered yes, but I was obviously preoccupied.  J.J. left to grab a few beers, and I was still frozen in place, I couldn't believe my eyes.   I had never seen a sight like that; I am completely in shock and my heart rate picked up.  I snapped out of it just to reach up to make sure I'm wasn't drooling.  J.J. returned with my beer and nudged me to take it.

"Um", I cleared my throat and got ready to ask, but J.J. already knew my question.  "That there is the jewel of the county,  hell, maybe even the state of Indiana.  Also known as my sister M.J."

What was I seeing?  She was standing on the flat surface of something I can only describe as a huge roll of hay.  Blonde, beautiful hair that reached the middle of her back in loose curls, perfectly round beautiful breasts.  I trailed my eyes down, and her shirt didn't quite reach the top of her shorts, exposing the cutest belly button I had ever seen.  That ass, oh my god, that ass couldn't be described in simple words, then down her long perfectly sculpted legs ended into a pair of yellow work boots.  Work boots?  Really?   Wasn't expecting that one. Wow, I had a feeling that girl had many layers, and I wanted to be the one that peeled each layer back and learned every inch of her body and mind.

I noticed my legs are moving, toward the most beautiful creature I had ever seen.   I lived my whole life in New York,  I saw beautiful women all day, every day, but this girl was different.  I had never felt such a pull toward someone.  I was drawn to that creature in a way that could not be made of this world.  She was beyond beautiful, there were no words to do her justice.  Suddenly, she slowed down and turned her head.  Almost like she could feel my eyes plastered on her like she was drawn to my gaze.  She looked at me and we locked eyes, almost like she was also frozen.  We stood like that for what almost felt like forever before she was shaken back to reality. "MJ!  What's up?  What happened to our party girl?"  Some guy yelled up to her. Looking shocked, she turned her head and jumped down then walked into the crowd.  I lost sight of the best moment in my entire life.

Later that night, I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling.  What happened to me?  What kind of voodoo was this?  I couldn't take my mind off of the angel I saw earlier.  Why did she disappear?  I didn't get to see her again the whole night. Even if I did get to see her again, what would I say?  Although I've never been one to use many words, I've never had a problem approaching a girl.  I was actually quite good at landing dates that typically ended with one-night stands.   She's J.J.'s sister, and Mrs. Campbell said we will be spending a lot of time with the Sheridan family.  Maybe my father's misfortune would turn out to be a blessing in disguise.  I thought I might like it there after all.
