Rain | LaxVia OS |romance and slight angst
>> in the midst of everything, juvia asks laxus an unexpected question; in which his answer in return is unexpected.
third person's POV
She ran.
She ran as fast as her skinny legs could take her. She didn't care about the mud getting all over her boots; nor did she care about it getting all over her thighs. She didn't care about the fact that the muddy and rocky path she was taking was unfamiliar. She didn't care about the lightning and thunder erupting from the cloudy skies. She didn't give a damn about it all. She ran, and ran, as long as she could get away from him.
"JUVIA!"
The voice was closer than Juvia remembered it was. "I'm sorry, Gray-sama...I'm sorry, everyone..." Her breath hitched in her throat, as she mumbled her small apology, "I'm sorry for being a rain woman...".And she ran faster, the voice dissolved into nothingness.
~~~~~
"Gray-sama~!" A blue-haired water mage's optimistic voice echoed throughout the guild. She pouted, looking left and right for any signs of her beloved black-haired stripper.
"Where could Gray-sama be?" She mumbled, looking down at the pink box in her hands. 'Would he even like these cookies...? He didn't seem to like them yesterday...Should I just stop pursuing him?'
She shook her head along with all her harboured negative thoughts. 'No! Don't give up like Mira-san, Erza-san and Lucy-san said! You should just keep trying, Juvia!' After her little pep talk in her mind, she was filled with determination. She walked over to Mira, who was currently at the bar, cleaning some mugs, and sat on one of the stools.
"Mira-san, have you-", before Juvia could even finish, she was cut off by the white-haired waitress who already seemed to know what her question was going to be.
"Gray is outside, probably getting a rest from all the fighting Natsu and him did today. Go ahead, and just be you! Good luck, Juvs!" Mira finished off with a wink before serving another one of the guild members. Juvia smiled at her and ran off, silently thanking her mentally.
~~~~~
"Ah-!"
Juvia, lost in her thoughts, tripped over a rock, injuring her knee in the process. 'I never would have known that he would react that way....'
She stood up, ignoring the pain that was coming from her knee, and began walking, seeing as her leg wasn't cooperative enough to let her run.
Minutes later, she had found a cliff. She saw a rock and sat on it, deciding to rest her leg. She didn't mind the cold, hard raindrops falling on her, 'It's my fault they're here anyway...'
"Oi. Did you know how troublesome it was to find you?" A gruff voice said behind her.
Juvia was so startled that when she turned around, she blasted water right in the face of; "Laxus-san!"
Her eyes widened as she realized that she had hit the already soaked lightning dragon slayer. "I-I'm sorry, Laxus-san!"
He groaned. "It's alright, now don't do it again." He grumbled, sitting next to her.
With the other guild members, he would have normally exploded on them. But as much as he hated to admit it, he had a soft spot for the water mage. And he was so glad that Mira wasn't here, or else she'd be teasing him, like always.
Laxus sat beside Juvia, with a huge huff, both of them staring at different directions, not minding the raindrops that were falling. Silence loomed over them, not that they minded it either. The sound of the rain was comforting to both of them, and neither felt the need to ask about what happened.
Juvia turned to look at the grey sky. 'Grey skies always indicate rain. Gray...wasn't he the one that made it rain?' She scoffed in her mind. She had always thought that Gray was her one and only, for he had shown her the sun, in her world full of rain. 'But he never gave me true happiness, did he?' She turned to glance at the man beside her. They had bonded ever since the Grand Magic Games, secretly, and she considered him as one of her best friends, Gajeel still being in the top spot. 'He's real strong...and muscular too..WAIT WHAT ARE YOU THINKING JUVIA?! SNAP OUT OF IT!!' She turned her head away from him, her face turning into a tomato, trying to calm her mind and herself down. 'What if... just, what if... Laxus... was the one that brought me true happiness?'
"Ne, Laxus-san..."
Laxus had always thought that the water mage was pretty. The only downside was that she was already heads-over-heels for the ice popsicle. He had always thought she was pretty weak, until she had sacrificed herself in the fight with Freed. Even though he thought that it was stupid and naive to do that at first, she was still strong, he had to admit. But her feelings for Gray distracted her from making her powers stronger, and that was when he started to get annoyed. He looked at her, 'She is beautiful. I'll have to give her that.' He looked back in the other direction, face heating due to embarrassment. 'But it's not like I care for her or anything... I just... It's a shame for a strong mage...that's pretty too..' He groaned in his mind. 'Agh... I guess, you were right this time, Mira.'
"What, Juvia?"
"Do you hate the rain?"
To say the least, Laxus was surprised. Although he couldn't understand why she would ask, he tried to think up of an answer, furrowing his eyebrows. Juvia noticed his action and thought, 'Does he think Juvia is weird for asking that...?'
Growing nervous, Juvia made an attempt to tell Laxus that- "It's okay if Laxus doesn't answer it. Let's just head back-"
"I hate it."
Blinking once, twice, thrice, Juvia was...confused. She tilted her head at Laxus who made no attempt of looking at her. "W-What..?"
"I hate it." He repeated, "I hate the rain."
Juvia's remaining pieces of hope shattered, the army of raindrops falling even harder, making it sting a little but it was no match for the sting in Juvia's heart. 'The rain...is equal to Juvia. Laxus knows that. He...He hates Juvia...Laxus hates Juvia...'
Her tears flowed, along with the river of raindrops down her face. 'And Juvia thought that Laxus would be different from Gray...'
Juvia stood up, starting to walk away until a hand stopped her. "You didn't let me finish, Juvia." She was turned around to face Laxus, his hand changing spots for it to be around her waist. "Yes, I hate the rain.", the statement making Juvia want to cry even more.
Cupping her cheek, Laxus grew closer to Juvia, his eyes on the ground. Thump, Thump, Thump, went her heart. "I hate the rain because it shows when you're sad." Both of them were reddening, yet neither of them cared, too immersed in each other. "And I hate seeing you sad." Looking into each other's eyes, they leaned and leaned until their lips met.
'A kiss in the rain. Something I dreamt of with Gray, but it was Laxus who made my dream come true.'
Pulling apart, Laxus put his forehead on Juvia's own. "I love you, Juvia Lockser."
The rain was fading away, grey clouds too. The sun now shines bright above them, just like how bright Juvia's face is right now.
The rain isn't so bad after all.
