Chapter 5: Intense Training

The guild was as lively as ever. Everyone was laughing, drinking, and socializing. Levy and I both knew that if we drank too much, we would be bouncing off the walls, so we decided to stick together during the party. I would drag Levy out into the middle of the hall and force her to dance with me.

She was never a fan of big social events, but she seemed like she was enjoying herself. She eventually warmed up to the crazy environment and let loose. These were the kind of memories that I will look back on, and smile.

Natsu and Gray were fighting as usual, no surprise there. Juvia was behind a table cheering on Gray. I could see the hearts in her eyes from across the guild. Elfman, Mira, Macao, and Jet were playing a game of poker with a few other guild members over their shoulders. Cana was obviously chugging a barrel of alcohol.

Natsu had found some simple job for us to do. We were planning on leaving tomorrow morning, but for tonight, we were all just having fun. Everything was perfect, or so I thought.

Who knew all that fun would be diminished in the blink of an eye.

"Everybody listen up!" Master yelled from the stage. "This is a Fairy Tail emergency!" The guild's mood instantly changed. The air turned thick with confusion and worry. You could hear a pin drop with the amount of tension in the room.

All of my guild mates started running towards the stage, not caring if they made a mess. Levy clung to my arm out of terror. I guided her towards the stage. Many people starting asking what was wrong, and Master just stood there with a grim expression on his face.

"Midnight has escaped from the Magic Council's Prison." Many of us, including myself, gasped out of horror. Midnight had been a problem since the day we encountered him. I was especially scared of him, he used Michelle against me and forced me to activate the infinity clock.

He's also apart of the Oracion Seis, so we have already ran into them multiple times. After Natsu escaped Midnight's darkness magic, we had finally beaten him. The Magic Council took him into custody, but he must have out-smarted them.

Everyone in the guild started shouting a series of questions. How? When? What are we going to do? Many of their faces were angry, shocked, or scared. Erza looked at the floor trying to accept what had just been said. I wish Jellal was here to cheer her up.

Natsu, Gray, Gajeel, and a bunch of other people were planning their revenge. Wendy started to cry, I instantly pulled her towards me.

"Everything's going to be okay, I promise." I said providing her with a little bit of reassurance. I smiled at her, and she smiled back.

"Everyone settle down!" Master screamed at the top of his lungs. The guild was silent once again. "There have been sightings of him surrounding many different prisons. My guess is that he is looking for the other members of the Oracion Seis."

Midnight was bad, but adding more bad guys to the equation wasn't going to be good.

"We need the strongest team leading this mission to find Midnight, and the other possible members. I have already picked the members who will be fighting in the front lines." Master paused and pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.

"Natsu, Gray, Erza, Lucy, Wendy, Gajeel, Juvia, Mira, Levy, and Elfman will be leading this mission."

It was like a cold shiver ran up my spine, I was petrified. I didn't know if I was strong enough to be a leading fighter. I couldn't doubt myself, we can totally do this!

Fairy Tail can accomplish anything.

"Those who were called, please meet me in my office. We are closing down the guild for the night, so everyone else clean up, and head home." The shuffling of feet was all I heard before I started walking towards Master's office.

Everyone piled into his tiny room. You'd think since he was the master of Fairy Tail, he'd have a bigger office.

I noticed that no one in our group looked upset, not even Wendy. If anything, they looked determined to bring Midnight down.

"Thank you for being brave and taking on this difficult task." He scanned the room looking into everyone's eyes. "As we have seen before, Midnight uses a series of dark magic. He also uses reflector and personification magic. One of his favorite spells is to make people experience their worst fears, or "nightmares."'

All of the horrid memories were coming back to me.

"He uses his magic to easily upset and confuse people, truly a terrifying talent." Master paused and pulled a silver briefcase from under his desk. He opened it, revealing multiple syringes and serums. "This liquid, when inserted into your blood stream, will make you experience your worst fears. We need to use this to train, and to realize when a situation is real or fake."

If I wasn't shaking before, I certainly am now. I don't want to experience my worst fears. I don't think anyone does, but no one looked taken back by the idea. If it would help us beat Midnight, then I'm in. It will give us an advantage, and that could be very handy.

"I'm sorry that it has to be this way, but it will increase your skills on the battlefield." Master's voice started to tremble. "I would never purposely hurt my children, but this must be done for your safety."

"It's alright Gramps, we can do this!" Natsu said slinging his arm around Gramps shoulder. Even with such a terrible situation, he was still optimistic. Master wiped away his tears and resumed his explanation.

"The simulation ends when you can realize that the situation is fake. The simulations time limit is dependent upon the person. It can last anywhere from ten minutes, to two hours. I have rooms set up for pairs of two, please find a partner who you can trust to bring you back to your senses once you wake up. Once you are ready, come grab two of these," Master said showing us the supplies.

I didn't have to look very far for a partner. Natsu grabbed my hand and showed me a serious face. "You trust me?" He eyes were searching mine for an answer.

"Of course I do," I said smiling. He grinned and we walked towards Master. He looked at us, and then handed the supplies to me.

"Be strong Natsu and Lucy," he said with a depressed tone. "Pick any room you want." We both nodded and walked away from the crowd. People we starting to form their groups. I saw Gray and Juvia as a pair, Gajeel and Levy as a pair, and Erza and Wendy as a pair. I'm sure everyone will be fine.

Natsu guided me into one of the occupied rooms and shut the door
