Chapter 13: The Ride

~Lucy's POV~

"What's going on between you and Gajeel?" I asked, whispering the question straight to Levy's ear. She pursed her lips and started to pout.

"He's just being stupid," she said crossing her arms. She was obviously annoyed, her face could easily be read. She started tapping her foot and looking at the floor.

"What happened?" I asked with confusion in my head. Gajeel and Levy had always gotten into small petty arguments, so I'm sure it was minor.

"He doesn't appreciate good literature," she said through a sigh. I tried so hard to contain my laughter. I placed a hand over my mouth as the giggles seeped through the cracks in my hand. She snapped her head towards me, showing a menacing glare.

"What?" She asked in a very angry tone.

"Isn't that a little silly to get in an argument about?" I exclaimed as Levy playfully punched my arm. "Ow!" I mockingly said, rubbing the area that she punched. Her rebellious action caused me to laugh even harder.

"Little House on the Prairie is a classic, and he claimed that it was boring!" She threw her hands up in the air on the last part of her sentence.

"How could he do that!" I sarcastically said with a mocking tone in my voice. I received yet another death glare from Levy.

"Ever since what happened a few days ago, he's been acting different." She mumbled quietly, hair covering her eyes. I dropped the sarcastic act and actually started to worry.

"What happened a few days ago? You did say you would tell me another time, why not now?" We certainly had enough time, the train ride had just started. Juvia had snuggled up to Gray by the window, Erza was fiddling with her requip inventory, and our two dragon slayers were on the other side of us arguing about who knows what.

"Well," she said inspecting the two boys on the other side of us. They weren't paying any attention to us, but she still remained paranoid.

Gajeel opened the door to his apartment, carrying me bridal style. My hand had a tight grip on his shirt. I was crying in his chest, completely petrified. Those nightmare simulations felt so real. I couldn't help the panic attack that had occurred right after.

Gajeel was silent, hair covering his eyes. I could feel his heart beating rapidly, his body was also shaking. His hand was placed on the back of my head. He kept smoothing my hair down, trying to calm my nerves.

He carried me to his bedroom, and gently placed my head on the pillow. As soon as he stopped making contact with me, I freaked out.

"Wait!" I exclaimed as I grabbed his hand. His back was turned, but I had got a hold of him just in time. I tried pulling him towards me, he reacted by sitting down on the side of his bed. He would not show me his face, which lead me to guess that he was crying.

"You shouldn't hang around me anymore," he said through a rough voice. My eyes widened at his comment. I sat up swiftly and threw my arms around him. His body was hot, oddly warm.

"Why would you ask me to do that?" I exclaimed through a sob. His self-harming words struck me right in the heart.

"I'm not worth it," he paused and turned towards me. His face was covered in shadows, so I still could not read his expression. Another tear slid down my face as I thought of losing him.

"Gajeel," I said putting my hands on either side of his face. He was a lot taller than me, so I had to stretch my arms to reach him. I'm sure I looked like a mess, but he wouldn't care. His cheeks felt hot, the moonlight reflecting off of his metal piercings. "Never say that ever again," I said moving his hair from his eyes.

His dark eyes were cold and solemn. He wasn't crying, but his mouth was trembling. He put a hand on the back on my head and pulled me towards him. My head fell right in the crevice of his shoulder. I couldn't reach at first, so he pulled me up onto his lap.

I could feel the sweat start to form under my arms. I already knew that I was blushing like a mad man, but Gajeel didn't seem to notice. I slightly leaned back, and it lead to both of us falling on the bed. He was hovering over me, examining my face.

I lay under him completely speechless, my eyes shimmered with nerves. His arms were on either side of me, but I had no intention of moving them. We stared at each other, the room filling with silence.

His sheets smelled like him. I can't explain the smell, but I knew it was Gajeel.

I lightly lifted my hand up to his shirt collar and grabbed it. I slowly pulled him closer to me, both of our eyes widening at my action. We never broke eye contact as the inches closed between us. Our faces were merely two inches apart.

I let go of his shirt, seeing the wrinkles that I had made. Gajeel noticed and grabbed my hand. He placed it back on his chest, and I blushed even harder. He moved the hair out of my face, and wiped the remaining tears from my eyes.

"Levy," he said using my actual name. I was surprised that he wasn't using my other name, Shrimp. This side of Gajeel continued to shock me.

I had read books, watched movies, seen pictures. Kissing didn't seem that hard, but I wouldn't know. I took the lead and lightly pushed my lips against his. I closed my eyes letting time slip from my memories.

"That's what happened," Levy said with a tint of pink on her cheeks. I instantly wrapped my arms around her.

"Levy, that's amazing! I'm so happy for you two." I looked at her with surprised eyes. "What happened after that?" I asked, not being able to deal with the suspense. She laughed at my childish behavior and disconnected herself from me.

"We just kind of fell asleep," she said with a huge grin on her face. I smiled at her, tilting my head in the process.

"You guys are so cute, just date already." I exclaimed as I wiggled my eyebrows. She lightly punched my arm again, starting to blush.

"I could say the same thing about you and a certain fire mage," she exclaimed mockingly. My body temperature shot up, and I put my hands over my burning cheeks. As if on cue, Natsu appeared right in front of me.

"Lucy, help me," Natsu whined falling into the seat next to me. He looked a sickly color, sweat forming at his temples. His troia spell must have worn off, and we weren't even thirty minutes into the ride. Happy flew into my lap right next to Natsu.

"Lucy, you gotta help him! Natsu's going to die!" Happy exclaimed with tears in his eye. I scratched his head and smiled at him.

"He'll be fine Happy, just really bad motion sickness." He gave me a wide smile and jumped up from my lap.

"You take care of him, I'm going to see Charle." I could basically see hearts exploding from his eyes. Charle was a very stubborn exceed, but I think she's head over heels for Happy. I giggled at the situation and turned towards Levy.

"Why don't you go make up with Gajeel?" I asked looking at the lonely Gajeel. He wasn't even with Lily, Lily must have been in the other cabin. She crossed her arms and gave me a annoyed look.

"If I have to," she said as she stood up. I saw her walk over towards Gajeel, but was instantly interrupted by a "dying" Natsu.

"Luce," he begged as he tugged on my arm. He did look dreadful, but I couldn't contain my laughter. He gave me a pitiful look, which made me purse my lips at him.

"Awh, is baby Natsu not feeling well?" I teased as I scooted closer to him. He was leaned up against the cornering wall. He shook his head and looked down on the floor. "If you throw up on me, I will kill you," I threatened him.

I quickly checked the bag I had brought with me. I found a bottle full with crystal clear water and uncapped it. "Here, drink," I said handing the water to Natsu. He quickly snatched it from my hands and took a big gulp. I quickly stopped him in the process.

"Small sips you idiot! You'll make yourself even more sick." He said as he turned even greener. His skin was much more pale than when we left the station. He took my advice and sipped from the bottle. I giggled at his childish behavior and started playing with his hair. I ran my fingers through his cheery blossom pink hair.

It was so soft.

He set the water bottle down, and looked at me with sickly eyes. "Thanks Lucy," he said leaning his head against the side of the cabin. I wouldn't know how comfortable that would be, but he quickly closed his eyes.

I grinned as I kept messing with his hair. He shakily grabbed my arm and opened one eye. He showed me a small smile, and continued to hold my hand. I started to blush, which made his smile expand. He pulled me closer to him, until I could easily put my head on his shoulder.

I picked up on his intentions and laid my head down on his bare shoulder. His heart beat was radiating throughout his entire body. It acted as a lullaby to my ears. I was still holding his hand, which seemed to fit perfectly into my hand. Our fingers intertwined and I felt safe. I closed my eyes and slowly started to drift off to sleep.

~Levy's POV~

"I just wanted to let you know that Lucy made me come apologize, not me." I said stubbornly. I sat at least a foot away from him. I crossed my arms and legs and looked in the opposite direction. He snickered and turned his head towards me. I still refused to meet his gaze, but I saw him move out of my peripheral vision.

"You still agreed to it," he said through a mocking voice. I humphed and turned towards to him.

"Have I apologized yet? No," I said pausing my dramatic sentence. "So, you haven't won just yet." I pouted my lip and looked down at the floor.

"You're so immature Shrimp," he said with ease. He then flicked my forehead with his index finger. My mouth dropped and I looked at him with surprise.

"And you call me the immature one," I said through a sigh of annoyance.

"Maybe, but I got you to look at me." I sat there shocked from his sneaky plan. I blew air out of my nose and leaned back against the cushioning.

"Look, I really am sorry for freaking out on you the other day." I mumbled quietly.

"You know I can hear whatever you say, so don't even try to mumble." I cursed at myself for forgetting that he was a dragon slayer. "I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have criticized one of your favorite books." He moved closer to me while saying his apologies.

My heart filled with gratitude from his words. "We're good?" I asked, smiling at him. He grinned and made eye contact with me.

"Yea we're good shorty," he said as the train hit a bump. I am a small girl, so for most normal people, a bump would be nothing. I almost bounced out of my seat, but Gajeel caught me. "Damn you're light," he said as the inches closed between us.

I scratched my head in embarrassment because of his recent action. I'm sure a light pink tinted my cheeks, but Gajeel didn't notice. "Sorry?" I questioned to distract myself.

"You need to eat more," he said as our arms touched. My head could barely reach his shoulder.

"I'm fine!" I exclaimed loudly, trying to defend my current weight.

"Whatever," Gajeel said through a laugh. We began to fall silent as the train rode on. I found myself staring out the window, and the image was mesmerizing. My eyes started to feel heavy, and my eye lids started to drop.

Before I knew it, just like Natsu and Lucy, I had fallen asleep on my partner. I was expecting to be pushed away, but Gajeel didn't even flinch. Before I entered slumber, I felt his arm drape over my shoulder. I was going to fall asleep against the side of his chest.
