Chapter 11: Best Friend

Before this chapter starts, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the positive feedback from my readers. I've made a lot of great friends through Wattled, and writing this story was a great decision.

Also, I can see me and my best friend acting the same way that Levy and Lucy do in this chapter. xD Enjoy!

~Lucy's POV~

A loud noise interrupted my slumber. I slowly opened one of my eyes and scanned the room. The light emitting from my window burned my retina. My vision was blurry and faded. From what I could see, no intruders had broken into my apartment.

I winced at the sunlight and shut my tired eye. Both my eyes snapped open as the banging continued. I rubbed my eyes with my thumbs, removing the disgusting eye crust. I blinked a few times, and could clearly see the items in my apartment.

"Lucy, are you in there?" I heard a muffled voice from behind my front door. I then came to the realization that someone was knocking on the door. Before I sat up, I noticed that Natsu's arm was slung over my side. My body temperature instantly rose, but I couldn't contain the butterflies.

I found myself smiling like an idiot when I thought of his strong arms around me.

"Lucy! It's Levy, are you there?" Levy's words snapped me out of my daydream, and I carefully removed Natsu's arm from my side. I gently placed it next to him, trying to be as quiet as I could. I silently hopped out of bed and ran to the door.

I opened it swiftly, and Levy almost hit me in the face. I flinched and ran my fingers through my hair.

"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" She asked, looking guilty.

"No, I was just in the bathroom and didn't hear the door," I blatantly lied. I leaned against the door way and crossed my arms. "What's wrong?" I questioned her, trying to act like I had been awake for a while.

Before she could answer, I heard my bed springs creak. I also heard the bed sheets rustle loudly, then came Natsu's snore. My eyes widened, and I began to sweat. My pupils turned into little black diamonds. Levy tilted her head in confusion, she tried looking around me, but I blocked her.

"Who's in there?" Levy said standing on her tiptoes. It was a good thing I was tall, because I could easily block her range of vision.

"Nobody!" I said quickly. I rapidly looked behind me to find Natsu sprawled out across my bed.

"You're hiding something!" Levy yelled as she started pushing her weight on me. I placed my arms on both sides of the doorway, to cause more resistance to her entering. She started hitting my arms and lightly kicking my legs.

"No I'm not!" I said with a tone of panic in my voice. I had totally forgotten that Levy was supposed to pick me up before we went to the guild. Levy pouted at me, and I swear her face started to turn red. She grunted and let out a sigh of annoyance.

"I don't want to do this Lucy, but you leave me no choice!" Levy said as she raised her hands. She began to ferociously tickle my stomach. I instantly started to laugh, and grabbed my sides to stop my laughter. I made a fatal mistake when I took my arms away from the door.

Levy ducked right behind me like a professional ninja. I lunged at her and tried to cover her eyes with my hands.

"Lucy, just let me see!" She said swatting away my hands. She broke my grasp around her, and saw the mystery person in my bed. Her eyes widened, and her lips turned upwards. She began to gasp, but I placed my hand to her mouth to stop her from speaking. I rushed her out of my apartment, and loudly shut the door.

I shut the door so hard, the vibration spread throughout my hand. Levy's eyes were suspiciously calm.

"Promise you won't scream?" I asked, judging her reaction. She nodded, and I cautiously removed my hand from her mouth.

"LUCY, OH MY GOSH." Levy said screaming and jumping around with joy. I didn't even try to stop her, I just placed my head in my hands.

"What happened? Tell me everything!" Levy said grabbing my hands. Her eyes were shimmering with excitement. She had always teased that I liked Natsu, but I had denied her every time.

"He wasn't feeling well after training, so I just took him back to my place." I said feeling exhausted. "Nothing happened, I swear." I felt a bead of sweat drop from my forehead. "All I did was sleep with him," I mumbled quietly.

"What did you say Lucy?" She asked with happy confusion in her voice. She cupped her hand around her ear and leaned towards me.  "I'm waiting," she had her mouth open with surprise.

"We slept together," I paused, "nothing other than sleeping." I looked at the ground as pink spread across my cheeks. She started shaking my arms ferociously. She jumped up and down and gave me a hug.

"You guys are so cute! I can't wait till you guys get married, can I organize the wedding?" My eyes widened in surprise at her comment.

"You can't tell anybody!" I said stopping her little party. "Seriously, no one." I gave her a very threatening look. She smirked and replied with a dirty look.

"I won't tell anyone what you did with Natsu, you have my word." She wiggled her eyes brows at me. I lightly punched her in the arm, but we both just ended up laughing.

"I was just being a good friend," I said crossing my arms and looking at the ceiling.

"Okay, Lucy, I'm going to ask you this one more time." She said as she cleared her throat. She leaned in super close to me, but I didn't move an inch.

"Do you like Natsu?" I rolled my eyes, and turned away from her. I was blushing like a mad man, and I didn't want her to see.

"I'm sure it's just a phase," I said trying to deny my true feelings. Levy popped up in front of me, staring at my flushed face.

"You're blushing! You do like him!" She said loudly. I felt my heart beat increase rapidly. I placed my hand to my heart as the butterflies started to swim around in my stomach.

"Fine, I do." I smiled when I thought of Natsu. I guess this is what it means when you have a crush on someone. Everything they do grabs your attention, and you find yourself extremely vulnerable around them. I was so dense that I didn't realize this feeling.

"I knew it all along," Levy said standing on her tiptoes. I smiled and pushed her slightly. I started to think about all the events that occurred over the last few days. I smiled as I thought of one singular memory.

"Uh, there's something I need to tell you." I said smiling and lightly touched both of my cheeks.

"Well, spit it out!" She said crossing her arms and looking me up and down.

"Well, Natsu and I kind of k-kissed," I stuttered intensely. Her mouth basically dropped down to the floor in shock. She put her hand over her mouth and gasped.

"Well that settles it, when is the wedding?" She asked with a cheesy smile.

"We're not getting married," I snapped at her. "We're not even dating," I said longing for that statement to be incorrect.

"You will! He obviously likes you Lucy," she said giving me a heart warming smile. Her words made me happy and I exhaled a sigh of relief. "What's your next move?" She questioned with her hands on her hips.

I guess I had never thought of what to do next.

"I'm not sure, maybe talk to him about the kiss?" I shook my head, I refused to awkwardly bring up a subject that he might not enjoy.

Levy scratched her chin and deeply thought of a solution.

"You should do what feels right, what your heart wants." She said hugging me. "I'm so happy for you!" I hugged her back, feeling great. My mind was in a great place. I was excited to start this voyage with my guild, and Natsu.

"So, anything happened between you and Gajeel?" I said bumping my shoulder against her. She instantly blushed, but shook it off immediately.

"That's a story for another time," she said acting like a child. I laughed at her childish behavior, and broke away from our hug. Levy is my best friend, and I'm glad that I opened up to her about Natsu.

"Well, I have to wake up Natsu, so I'm going to have to take a rain check on our walk." I said referring to our previous plans.

"Fine, but just this once." She said holding up one finger. She laughed and headed towards the stairs. "I'll see you there! You better hurry, we're supposed to leave in an hour." I nodded and waved at her.

That went a lot better than I expected, but I still had one more mage to deal with. I went back inside my apartment to find Natsu dead asleep, even with all the noise Levy and I created. I was nervous to even approach him, I hated and loved this feeling.

He was sprawled out across my bed, snoring loudly. I couldn't help but look at his calm sleeping face. He's so cute. I sat down next to him and gently gave him a little push. No response.

"Natsu," I said pushing him harder, until I was basically shoving him off my bed. "Wake up!" I yelled, and he finally opened his eyes.

"Sorry Luce, I'm a heavy sleeper," he said scratching the back of his neck. I rolled my eyes at him, but giggled at his silly sleeping habits.

"Are you feeling better?" I asked nervously placing my hand to his forehead. He seemed a little surprised by my touch, but instantly went back to smiling.

"Oh yea! I'm all fired up!" He said removing my hand from his forehead. "Thanks for letting me crash here last night," he said standing up from the bed. He stretched and rubbed his tummy. "Boy I'm starving!" Natsu said running past me to my kitchen.

"Help yourself I guess," I yelled at him with a tone of annoyance in my voice. "Hurry up, we have to be at the guild in an hour." I said walking towards my bathroom. I heard the rustling and clinking of kitchen appliances as I was doing my hair.

I was praying that Natsu wasn't going to burn my apartment to a crisp. I changed and walked out of my bathroom. I smelled smoke and ran towards the kitchen. Natsu was roasting some of the leftover sandwiches that I had in my fridge.

"Natsu! You're going to burn my apartment down!" I rushed over towards him, trying to avoid getting burned. I tried to grab for the sandwich, but Natsu pushed me away playfully. He put his free hand on my shoulder and raised the sandwich higher than I could reach.

I stood on my tiptoes but still couldn't reach it. I jumped as high as I could, but Natsu continued to tease me, taunting me to pounce for the food. He had a constant smile plastered on his face, and he laughter rang through my ears.

"Natsu, give it to me!" I whined, giving him my pouty face. I batted my eye lashes and looked at the floor with a frown. Natsu was distracted by my fake condition, so I had just enough time to snatch the sandwiches. I jumped around my kitchen rubbing my victory in his face.

"Come on Luce, I just wanted to make us some lunch." He still had a smile, but he walked towards me. I stopped my victory dance as he got closer to me. I instantly felt very nervous and grabbed my wrist.

To avoid any other interaction, I shyly held the sandwiches out to Natsu. He took them with one of his hands, and grabbed my other.

"Now, will you have lunch with me?" He asked searching for my eyes. I built up the courage to looking into his onyx eyes, and agreed to his offer.

"I would love to," I said through a smile. He showed a wide smile, and guided me towards the table I had in my kitchen.

While eating Natsu talked about all of the attacks he was going to hit Midnight with. He was like a kid in a candy store. He really was fired up to fight Midnight. We finished up our lunch and headed towards the guild.

I really don't remember when we stopped holding hands, but Natsu was by my side the entire time.
