Chapter 10: Realization

~Lucy's POV~

"What do you mean she hasn't woken up yet?" Natsu said standing up from where he was sitting. My heart began to fill with worry.

"She's been under the serum for more than two hours, is something wrong?" Erza questioned Master. Master looked shocked and disappointed.

"I have no idea," Master said obviously clueless. "It wasn't supposed to be like this," Master said as he shook his head.

"Well, we gotta wake her up!" Natsu said throwing his arms in the air. We were all tired, and this situation was frustrating him. An idea suddenly popped into my head.

"Levy!" Everyone turned towards me, meeting my gaze. "Can you find anymore information on the serum?" I said walking over to Master's desk. There was an extra syringe filled with the strange purple liquid. I gently tossed it over to her, and she examined it in her hands.

"I might find something in these books." There were shelves upon shelves of books in Master's office. They lined the sides of the room, as if they were the walls.

"I'll keep an eye on Wendy," Erza said sternly. She disappeared around the corner, and Master silently followed her.

"They're all about magic, so we're sure to find something." I said scanning the wall of books. Juvia and Mira appeared on either side of me. They helped me continue my search. As we started finding books about dark and medical magic, we passed them to Levy.

She pulled out her red gale-force reading glasses and started taking in all of the information. Levy looked drained of energy, but she still decided to help us. I kept running my fingers over the seems of the books, but couldn't find anything.

I tried to reach the books near the top of the shelve, but I couldn't reach.

"Geez Luce, you're pathetic," Natsu said swiftly picking me up. He sat me on his shoulders, and I began to madly blush. I gently slung my arms around his neck to hold on to him.

"Th-Thanks," I said with a timid voice. I shook my head and began scanning the books on the top shelve. Natsu was always filling my head with distractions. We have a dire situation here, so I have to get back to work.

As I read each of the seems, one caught my eye. I picked up the thin book, and turned it over. It had a beige cover with no design or pattern on the front or back.

The only words printed were, 'Nightmare Magic.'

"I think I found the right book!" I said as Natsu easily let me off of his shoulders. I ran the book over to Levy, and she popped up from the current book she was reading. Everyone else in the room hovered over the book in Levy's hand.

"That's got to be it," Juvia said triumphantly. We smiled at each other, then gave Levy some space to read the book. The pages of the book were rapidly turning. Thousands of words and information were entering the glasses. The words were being ripped off of the pages and sent to Levy's brain.

"I got it!" Levy said as she snapped the book close. She took off the glasses and put them on her head. She wiped the sweat off of her face, and let out a sigh of relief. We all instantly gathered around her. We all contained worry in our eyes. My heart felt very heavy.

"According to this book, it says that people under the age of thirteen will have different affects to nightmare magic. It states that nightmare stimulants will take a longer time to leave a child's system. Wendy is twelve, so she should wake up in a few more hours." You could hear the gigantic sigh that everyone let out.

The weights lifted off of my chest, and I placed my hand to my heart.

"I'm glad that she's okay, thank you for doing that Levy." Master said with tears in his eyes. Levy smiled at him. "I'll watch over her, please go home and get some rest. We leave tomorrow to search for Midnight."

Everyone nodded their heads, and started to walk towards the door. My feet remained frozen in their place.

"Do you mind if I see her?" I asked Master with a longing look on my face. He nodded and sat at his desk. I walked towards her specified room, and quietly opened the door. Charle was holding Wendy's hand, she was crying. Happy was providing moral support for Charle.

Lets be honest, they are so cute together. I lightly coughed so I could catch their attention. They looked at me with hope in their eyes.

"Did you find anything Lucy?" Charle asked gesturing for me to sit down. I sat on the hard wooden chair, and adjusted my posture.

"She'll be fine, the effects take a little longer to process for children under the age of 13." I said smiling at Charle, and Happy smiled at her as well.

"See I told you everything was going to be okay!" Happy said cheerfully.

"I just wanted to make sure that she was doing well." I said as I looked at Wendy's face. She seemed so calm. No sweat was forming at her temples, her body wasn't shaking, and she wasn't even crying. She was a strong dragon slayer, and I have faith she'll make it through this.

"She's doing fine," Charle said putting both paws into Wendy's small hand. I stood up and patted my legs in the process.

"Well, I'm going home, Master is also going to be looking after Wendy. According to the books, it shouldn't be that much longer."

"Bye Lucy," Happy and Charle said simultaneously. I smiled and left the room. I waved to Master on my way out, only to be greeted by a certain fire mage. He was leaning against the wall, looking really mysterious.

I joined him on the other side, and we were only inches apart. He barely noticed that I was there, something was definitely wrong.

"How is she?" Natsu asked before I could question his physical state. His voice sounded tired and cold.

I tried to meet his gaze, but he wouldn't meet mine. He continued staring at the floor, with a sickening look on his face. I smiled at him, he always looks at me when I smile.

"She'll be fine," I said taking Natsu's hands. They were burning hot, oddly hot for a fire mage. I pulled my hands away quickly. "Natsu, you're really hot," I said as I saw beads of sweat falling from his forehead.

"I know, who can resist these looks." He gave me a weak smile, but it still made me laugh. After I had calmed down from my nightmare my fever disappeared. Maybe the serum made the dragon slayers sick? I'm sure Levy was dealing with the same problem.

"Come on, let's go home." I said giving Natsu a little push from behind. "You need to rest." We quietly left the dark guild hall, and walked out into the starry night. The sky was completely clear, revealing a field of stars high and low.

We took a moment and looked at the stars. We were both in awe at the beautiful sight. Natsu started to stumble a little, but I caught him just in time.

Even though he was hot, I put my arm around him and let him lean some of his weight on me. Thankfully my apartment wasn't far from the guild. We walked in silence, moonlight guiding our way.

After about five minutes I slid the key into the lock, and turned it quickly. I opened the door, but kept the lights off. I carefully guided Natsu towards my bed, and sat him down. I gently pushed his head down on the pillow.

I went over to my window, and opened the blinds. A sliver of moonlight entered my small apartment, but it was enough to light up the room. I ran to the kitchen and pulled an ice pack out of the fridge. I wrapped it with a wash cloth, so it wouldn't be seriously cold. I walked back towards Natsu, who looked pretty rough.

"Here," I said applying the ice to his forehead. His head was so hot that the ice sizzled when they made contact. I frowned at him. "That liquid must have really got ya," I said moving Natsu's hair out of his face. I also handed him a water bottle that was on my bedside table.

"Thanks Luce," he said through a weak voice.

"Do you need anything else? I can make soup, or get you some-" I was interrupted by Natsu pulling me towards him. I fell on him, but he didn't mind. I started blushing like crazy when I realized that he had taken his shirt off.

"Uh-Uhm what are y-you doing?" I said nervously, my hand was on his chest, but I dared not move.

"Just stay with me, please." Natsu said with his eyes closed, he looked pretty desperate. I carefully readjusted my position, but stayed in his arms. He still had the ice applied to his forehead.

That strange feeling reappeared in my stomach. I swore butterflies were swarming and flying around in my tummy. My throat felt dry, and my face hot. What is this odd feeling that keeps occurring? As I lay there, I thought intensely.

I only feel this way when I'm around Natsu. It feels different when I talk to him, not like Gray or Loke. I can easily talk to the other guys in Fairy Tail, but when I talk to Natsu, I choke up.

As Natsu's breathing and heart beat steadied, I looked at his face. I longed to look at him, and I wanted him to look at me. Is this what it's like to have a crush on someone?

The thought terrified me. How could I be attracted to this mess? I laid my head back down on Natsu's chest. His heart beat was like a lullaby, and it was causing me to feel drowsy. I like being this close to Natsu. I also like how we rely on each other so greatly.

I think I like Natsu Dragneel.
